'Believe In What He Wants': Manchester United Players Back Manager Ruben Amorim

Manchester United finished 15th in the Premier League last season under Ruben Amorim. Despite poor results, players like Ugarte, Mount, and de Ligt remain motivated.
Finishing 15th in the Premier League was far from satisfactory for Manchester United last season, but the players still trust manager Ruben Amorim, according to midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
Amorim took over in November last year but managed only seven wins in 27 league matches, resulting in United's worst-ever Premier League finish.
Additionally, they failed to secure a Champions League spot after losing the Europa League final 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur.
'We have to improve things," Ugarte was quoted as saying by British media.
'We are all very motivated, because we believe in the coach, we believe in what he wants and that is very important," added the Uruguayan, who also played under Amorim at Sporting.
'Last year we made some changes, we changed our coach, we changed our formation.
'You have to have responsibilities when you play for United. Sometimes the connections take time to get to know each other. I already know the league, the rivals, which is important."
'"We're all in this together, and I think this period now is so important for us to spend together to train. But yeah, personally, I'm feeling really good. I feel like I'm in a really good place at the moment," Mount said.
Adding: 'I'm so excited for the start of the season."
De Ligt said: 'Obviously, we saw in the Premier League last season how fit every team is, so that's a really big aspect.
'But also, we have a lot of time now to train tactically, because last season we had the Europa Leage and a lot of games, so it was more difficult for the manager to implement his idea. They're both really important, and I'm sure, and I'm seeing already, we've made some steps in both aspects, so hopefully we can keep improving that," he added.
What's Next For Manchester United?
United will play two pre-season matches in the U.S., facing Bournemouth in Chicago on Wednesday and Everton in Atlanta on Sunday, before returning home to play Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9.
They begin the new Premier League season against Arsenal on August 17.

Lancashire Apologizes For Removal Of Fan Who Wore Pakistan Jersey In IND-ENG Test

Last Updated: Lancashire cricket club apologized for removing Farooq Nazar during the India-England Test at Old Trafford. Nazar was asked to cover his Pakistan jersey to prevent tensions. The Lancashire cricket club, which owns and runs the Old Trafford Cricket Ground, has apologized for 'any upset and offence caused" over the removal of a fan during the final day of the India-England Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The fan, Farooq Nazar, had shared a video on social media depicting how he was asked to leave by security officials for refusing to cover his t-shirt — a replica of an old Pakistan ODI jersey. Lancashire, though, put some of the blame on Nazar. The club said in its statement that Nazar was initially asked to cover his t-shirt and was only escorted by the police 'due to unacceptable behaviour directed towards the stewarding team". It also said that asking Nazar to leave was less about the Pakistan shirt but more about preventing enmity and any kind of violence on the ground. 'Firstly, we wish to make it clear that there was no intention to remove the individual simply for wearing a Pakistan cricket shirt," the club said in a statement. 'The approach taken was informed by an incident on Saturday, during which a group of supporters waved a Pakistan national flag, leading to tensions with nearby Indian fans. In that case, our stewards were able to de-escalate the situation by respectfully asking the individuals to put the flag away, which they did without hesitation. 'In light of this context, our team adopted a precautionary, safety-first approach on Sunday. A stand supervisor politely asked the individual to cover his shirt in the interest of his own safety and to avoid any potential escalation. Despite several courteous requests from the supervisor and the response team, the individual repeatedly declined to comply." The club also said it'll 'review its procedures for handling similar situations in the future". The incident was naturally seen in the broader light of sour relations between India and England. Lancashire is trying to attract Indian investment in its county, and has been successful in it with the Sanjiv Goenka-owned RPSG group now holding a 70 percent stake in the Manchester Originals in the Hundred. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Mohd. Nawaz's Three-Wicket Over Secures Pakistan's T20 Win Against West Indies

Last Updated: Mohammad Nawaz's three-wicket over led Pakistan to a 14-run win over West Indies in the opening T20 in Florida. Saim Ayub scored 57, earning player of the match. Mohammad Nawaz's impressive three-wicket haul in an over led Pakistan to a 14-run victory over West Indies in the opening match of the Twenty20 series in Florida on Thursday. Sent in to bat first, Pakistan posted a total of 178 for six, bolstered by Saim Ayub's brisk 57 from 38 balls. Reflecting on the match, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha said, 'It was a great game, we assessed the conditions well, batted and finished well, we started well with the ball, the middle overs were outstanding and the spinners were superb. 'We didn't take a wicket in the first 10 overs, but we controlled the game. The 11th over, we got three wickets and that was the turning point. Once the ball got older, it was tough to bat against spin and I was waiting for the moment. 'The pitch was the same for both teams – you could score against the new ball, but once the ball went old, it started to grip and turn for the spinners, making batting very difficult." Questions about whether Pakistan's score was above or below par at this venue were partially answered when West Indies openers Johnson Charles and 18-year-old rookie Jewel Andrew managed a run rate of just over six an over until the halfway point in their chase. After conceding 20 runs in his first three overs, left-arm spinner Nawaz dramatically changed the course of the match. In the 12th over, he dismissed Andrew for 35, ending a 72-run opening stand, and then claimed the wickets of Charles (35) and Gudakesh Motie (0) on the fourth and fifth deliveries, reducing the West Indies to 75-3. Skipper Shai Hope (2) then scooped a full delivery from Ayub into the deep in the next over, leading to West Indies losing four wickets for just five runs. Ayub was named player of the match for his half-century and bowling figures of 2-20. Some powerful late hitting from Jason Holder, who smashed four sixes in his unbeaten 30 off 12 balls, and Shamar Joseph, who contributed 21 from 12, helped West Indies reach 164-7, making the final margin more respectable. This one-sided contest quashed any hopes of the West Indies beginning the series against Pakistan on a positive note, following their recent comprehensive defeats in both Test and T20 series against Australia, who had completed a historic 8-0 sweep in the Caribbean earlier in the week. view comments Location : Lauderhill, United States First Published: News cricket Mohd. Sesko Battle: Manchester United, Newcastle In Race To Sign RB Leipzig Striker

Last Updated: The 22-year-old has been touted as hot property in a market with a dearth of natural goal scorers, and United would look to snap up the Leipzig star. Premier League giants Manchester United look to address their striker woes by roping in RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko, but will have to hold off stiff competition from fellow English side Newcastle United for the signature of the Slovenian. The 22-year-old has been touted as hot property in a market with a dearth of natural goal scorers, and United would look to snap up the Leipzig star in a bid to improve on their abysmal showings last season. In the latest development in the pursuit, United could sweeten the pot by adding current striker Rasmus Hojlund as part of the deal to make the passage for Sesko's switch much more convenient. United are believed to have made the striker their top priority in the transfer window, while English forward Ollie Watkins of Aston Villa also remains an option. Sesko netted 13 times and set up five assists in 33 outings for Leipzig in the bygone season of the Bundesliga to help his side finish seventh in the German top-flight with 51 points to their name from 34 games. United, who finished a lowly 15th in the Premier League in what was a forgettable season under Ruben Amorim, who took over the team midway through the campaign following the departure of former coach Erik Ten Hag, would look to return to winning ways as they endure a period of transition like never before. However, the Red Devils will have to fend off moves from Newcastle, who have also expressed interest in the services of the young forward amid concerns over the future of star player Alexander Isak, who looks to be forcing a move out of the Tyne-side club. The Swedish superstar looks to be angling for a move to Liverpool, who have splashed cash around in the ongoing transfer window shelling out big money for the likes of Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman. United have already bolstered their attacking line with the acquisition of Matheus Cunha from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford as they look to navigate a pathway to restore the club back o its former glory. view comments First Published: August 01, 2025, 10:55 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
