PITAS: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a suspected Vietnamese fishing vessel 13 nautical miles northeast of Tigabu Island here on Monday. Kudat Maritime Zone Director Hasbullah Omar said the operation followed a public tip-off, which prompted the deployment of patrol boat Cenderawasih 10 to the area. The suspect vessel was spotted at around 5.50am and attempted to flee but was successfully intercepted and boarded by enforcement officers. Checks revealed six Vietnamese men, aged between 27 and 44, onboard without any valid identification documents, along with fishing equipment and about 300 litres of diesel. Shafee asked by AG to show cause over ‘Nazi hearing' claim

PETALING JAYA: The attorney-general (AG) has asked lawyer Shafee Abdullah to show cause why committal proceedings should not be brought against him over his description of a court proceeding as 'a Nazi-Germany kind of hearing'. In a letter dated June 23 and handed personally to Shafee, the AG sought a reply from him within seven days. 'If you do not provide a satisfactory explanation within seven days from the date of this notice, criminal prosecution will be initiated against you,' the letter, sighted by FMT, read. The letter was signed by deputy public prosecutor Saiful Edris Zainuddin on behalf of AG Dusuki Mokhtar and sent pursuant to Order 52, Rule 2B of the Rules of Court 2012. The provision states that any formal notice to show cause why a person should not be committed to prison or fined must be served personally. The letter claimed that Shafee, who acts for ex-prime minister Najib Razak in his ongoing criminal charges and civil suits, made the remark during a press conference on May 29, which was live-streamed via Najib's Facebook page. The letter alleged that the words spoken as a whole could undermine public confidence and interfere in the administration of justice. Malaysiakini last month reported Shafee's criticism of a court order to temporarily stop all proceedings linked to Najib's royal addendum, during which the lawyer allegedly compared the decision to 'a Nazi-Germany kind of hearing'. Shafee clarified to the media that the remark was made during an exchange with a reporter and was intended to educate the public, not undermine the judiciary. He also said the remark was made solely in the context of explaining the meaning and essence of a 'judicial decision'. Najib has obtained leave from the Court of Appeal to begin judicial review proceedings to enforce a royal decree which allows him to serve the remainder of his jail sentence under house arrest. Ukraine's drone attack restricts traffic on Don River bridge in Russia's Volgograd
(Reuters) -Traffic on the Don River in the Kalachevsky district of Russia's Volgograd region was temporarily restricted to eliminate wreckage from a "massive" Ukrainian drone attack, the regional governor's administration said on Friday. "Sappers are at work," Volgograd Governor Andrei Bocharov was cited as saying in a post on the Telegram messaging app by the region's administration. He added that there were no injuries as a result of the attack. It was not immediately clear whether the bridge on the Don River, Europe's fifth-longest, was damaged. The Russian defence ministry said in a post on Telegram that its air defence units destroyed 39 Ukrainian drones overnight over the Russian territory and the Crimean Peninsula, including 13 over the Volgograd region. Volgograd airport was closed for more than three hours before flights were restored just before 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT), Russia's civil aviation authority Rosaviatsia said on Telegram. Russia: Ukrainian drone attack on Kursk injures Chinese reporter
KURSK: A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia's Kursk region on the border with Ukraine injured a war correspondent from the Chinese news outlet Phoenix TV, Russian authorities said late on Thursday, urging the United Nations to respond to the incident. "A Ukrainian drone today struck the village of Korenevo in the Korenevsky district," acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexander Khinshtein, said on the Telegram messaging app. "A 63-year-old correspondent, Lu Yuguang, who went to the border area on his own, was injured." Khinshtein said in a later post that the journalist had skin cuts to his head and after treatment, refused hospitalisation. Russia's foreign ministry called on the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and other international organisations to "promptly respond and give a proper assessment" of the incident. "The targeted attack .... indicates the intention of the Kyiv regime to silence and de facto destroy representatives of any media that seek to convey objective information," Maria Zakharova, the foreign ministry's spokeswoman, said in a Telegram post. Reuters could not independently verify the reports. There was no immediate response from Ukraine's foreign ministry and President Volodymyr Zelenskiy's office to Reuters' request for comment outside business hours. Phoenix TV reported the incident but has not issued a separate statement. According to Russia's state and official media outlets, Lu has been reporting on the war since its early days. Russia launched the war with a full-scale invasion on Ukraine in February 2022. Lu told Russia's state news agencies that he was feeling fine. "Western journalists are not visible at all (in Kursk)," Lu said in a video posted by TASS on social media, with his head in bandages, "We, Chinese journalists, want to convey what happened in the Kursk region." Russia and Ukraine have launched numerous cross-border attacks since the start of the war.
