Malaysia poised to lead EV, battery manufacturing sector in ASEAN
Malaysia Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) chairman Datuk Aminar Rashid said the country's vision could only be realised by addressing infrastructure gaps, modernising logistics networks, and simplifying cross-border mobility to ensure the smooth flow of goods, services and talent.
'Our National Automotive Policy (NAP) 2020 outlines a clear vision to drive Malaysia towards becoming a regional hub for next-generation vehicles, mobility accessories, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
'In parallel, Malaysia's new Industrial Master Plan 2030 reinforces our direction that challenges us to move towards high-value, high-technology industries while embracing sustainability and inclusivity,' he said in his opening remarks during the PwC Automotive ASEAN Conference here today.
Aminar said MARii also collaborates with the academia, industry, and government to build certification pathways, digital training platforms and inclusive programmes to reach all Malaysians in powering the future of mobility.
'MARii will pave the way toward a sustainable, inclusive and resilient future built on collaboration, innovation and a clear purpose.
'No single player can navigate this shift alone as it requires governments, industries, academia, financial institutions and consumers to work together not only within our borders but also across ASEAN and beyond,' he said.
At the conference, PwC Malaysia and MARii also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing Malaysia's automotive sector within ASEAN.
PwC Malaysia executive chair Nurul A'in Abdul Latif said the partnership targets to strengthen Malaysia's position as a mobility innovation regional hub.
'The automotive industry is undergoing profound change, driven by shifts in technology, regulation, investment priorities and consumer preferences.
'Through this collaboration, PwC is committed to deliver data-driven insights and will inform and support Malaysia's automotive policy formulation, investment strategies and long-term industry competitiveness, especially with Malaysia assuming the ASEAN chairmanship,' she said.

MARii chief executive officer Azrul Reza Aziz said the expo (exposition) targets higher trade activities from the automotive sector supply chains and foresees the potential to integrate semiconductor into the automotive sector. He said GATE 2025 would serve as a business matching platform where local automotive vendors could directly engage with global players. 'It will be a global gathering point for industry players who are actively seeking to increase localisation and source components for their global supply chains. 'Local players can find the opportunity to export their products overseas as well,' he told reporters after the GATE 2025 Premiere event here today. He also expected more international collaborations with up to 10 memoranda of understanding to be exchanged during the event. 'We also anticipate a 70 per cent local and 30 per cent international vendor participation, reflecting our dual commitment to elevating Malaysia's domestic capabilities while creating strong opportunities for technology transfer and foreign collaboration,' he said. Azrul Reza also said GATE 2025 is on track to welcome over 350 companies and 20,000 visitors from China, France, Germany, and other key markets across Europe, the Middle East and ASEAN. Currently, up to 60 per cent of 350 companies have confirmed their participation for the event, he said.

The centralised warehouse facility supports after-sales operations and strengthens network readiness for the new full-electric off-road SUV brand in Malaysia. Located within Shah Alam's Hicom Industrial Estate, the 88,000-square-foot components hub is managed by Chery Corporate Malaysia and shared with Omoda/Jaecoo Malaysia. Prioritising readiness, iCAUR Malaysia continues to steadily build its supply chain competencies and parts inventory since the facility began operations in March, well in advance of the iCAUR 03 launch which is slated for the third quarter of 2025. iCAUR Malaysia vice president Emily Lek said the centrally located Chery Corporate Malaysia warehouse is pivotal in supporting iCAUR's growing dealership network. The network will soon include no fewer than 16 dealer partners nationwide, with further expansions planned in 2026. "The spirit of iCAUR's 'Born to Play' philosophy means we are also born ready. By steadily building up our portfolio of parts and components, and backed by a global automotive player with robust supply chains, iCAUR Malaysia is poised to grow alongside our network while strengthening the premium after-sales service standards that our discerning customers expect," she added. KUALA LUMPUR: Agilent Technologies Malaysia Sdn Bhd's smart factory in Penang has been named a global leader in Industry 4.0 by the World Economic Forum and McKinsey & Company. The recognition highlights factories excelling in productivity, supply chain resilience, and talent development through cutting-edge technologies. Agilent Penang achieved a 40% productivity increase and 48% reduction in delivery lead times by integrating AI and digital solutions. The facility also lowered its environmental impact while enhancing workforce readiness for AI-driven manufacturing. Only two Malaysian factories earned this distinction, positioning Penang as a hub for advanced manufacturing excellence. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow praised Agilent for balancing tech innovation with sustainability and social responsibility.
