Kaizer Chiefs midfielder says his future is 'in God's hands'
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou is not worried about his future despite his contract with the club expiring in June.
The 26-year-old joined Amakhosi in 2022 but was limited to just 40 appearances. Matlou has had an injury-ravaged career at Chiefs and never really showed his full potential.
The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder featured just 10 league matches this season and is unlikely to have his contract renewed. The Soweto-born star is focused on Amakhosi's last match of the season, which is against Polokwane City on Saturday.
'Yes, my contract is coming to an end, it's coming to an end in June, but I'm gonna leave that to of course to God,' Matlou said as per iDiski Times .
'Because I'm one person who grew up in church, so I would give everything to God and of course, most definitely to the technical team, to everyone, the board and staff, to give me the opportunity if they do, but it's football so I'm not gonna plan for the future now, but now my focus is to win the Saturday's game to get into the top eight,' he said.
'As a player, I'm only focused on the game. The last game we gonna play it's on Saturday.
'So, what's gonna happen next it's the club and my agent, so I'll hear from my agent what he says.
'I'm one player that does not talk to the agent when the season is on, so I have to focus on the team that I'm playing for currently.
'Because, if I'm gonna start thinking about the contract and stuff, I'm gonna lose the concentration on the game,' said the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder.

Mamelodi Sundowns to snatch defender from Chiefs and Pirates
Mamelodi Sundowns are gearing up for a high-stakes transfer window, with major signings and exits on the cards. At the centre of attention is Stellenbosch FC's standout performer, Fawaaz Basadien, and Sundowns are determined to beat Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to his signature. As previously revealed, Sundowns have placed Basadien high on their transfer wishlist and are now frontrunners to land the versatile defender. The 28-year-old had a stellar season with Stellenbosch, which has only intensified interest from South Africa's biggest clubs. Stellenbosch FC appear willing to cash in, recognising the player's contribution to a historic campaign that saw them lift the Carling Knockout and reach the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup. Despite Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates showing interest, Sundowns are poised to win the race, thanks largely to their financial muscle and recent dominance in local football. 'Chiefs have also been interested in the player but could lose out to Sundowns, as they have on numerous occasions in the past because of the Tshwane giants' ability to fork out big transfer fees,' said the source. This trend looks set to continue unless Kaizer Chiefs makes a bold counter-offer. Basadien has served Stellenbosch with distinction. Playing a pivotal role in one of the most successful periods in the club's history. Now, with his stock at an all-time high. The defender is eyeing a step up to the country's top footballing echelon. 'It's seen as an opportunity for the 28-year-old to make a big career move. And indications are that he is ready to take it,' the sources suggest. However, any potential move to Sundowns is likely to materialise only after the FIFA Club World Cup. Giving Stellies more time to plan for life without their star man. Will Mamelodi Sundowns make the big bid and end the Basadien saga? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Kaizer Chiefs still eye new right-back with Mabuza still in the mix
Kaizer Chiefs are actively seeking to strengthen their right-back department, with Mhleli Mabuza still firmly on their radar. The Soweto giants recently assessed the 24-year-old defender during training sessions at Naturena, but have yet to commit to a contract offer. The former KZN Academy graduate joined Chiefs earlier this month to train with the first team as part of their early preparations for the upcoming 2025/2026 campaign. While he was given the platform to showcase his abilities, sources close to the club reveal that no final decision has been made regarding his future. 'He trained with the team, yes, but there hasn't been a firm commitment made. The club is still exploring its options,' a source confirmed. Mabuza, who built most of his professional career in Portugal, is now considering his next move. His availability, coupled with overseas experience, makes him an appealing prospect for Amakhosi. After yet another underwhelming season that saw them finish outside the Top 8 in the Betway Premiership, the club is intent on bolstering several key positions, right-back included. The technical team remains unconvinced by the current depth at right-back, with Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons both struggling with inconsistency and injury throughout the last campaign. No deal yet but the door remains open Although Mabuza's stint at Naturena hasn't resulted in a contract, insiders suggest the door is far from closed. Chiefs are likely to revisit his situation once newly appointed coach Nasreddine Nabi concludes his evaluations and solidifies his plans for the squad. 'The club is not ruling him out entirely. And may revisit the situation once the coach has decided what he wants,' the source added. Kaizer Chiefs are poised to make changes to their squad in the coming transfer window. With the right-back slot earmarked as a high priority. Mabuza remains a candidate as the club looks to rectify past failings and launch a serious challenge next season.
