Thin is in and this Galaxy Z Fold 7 rival just proved it again
In the days leading up to the launch event, set for July 2, Honor is teasing the upcoming Magic V5 – and the latest teaser gives us a good (although not complete) look at its design. And yep, it is looking incredibly thin. There's also a huge camera bump on the back, rumored to include a 200 MP periscope telephoto sensor.
The new Gold color looks pretty sleek. | Image credit – Honor The teaser shows the device in a color that is likely the previously rumored premium Silk Gold, which will join last year's Magic V3 colors:
Velvet Black
Snow White
Tundra Green The new option definitely looks sleek and gives the phone a bit of a style edge over rivals like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, which – once again – is expected to show up in some pretty tame shades.
Now, according to this teaser, the Magic V5 is set to become the world's thinnest foldable. That means it will beat out the current record-holder, the Oppo Find N5, which comes in at 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm when open. It's basically a rematch – Honor held the title before, then Oppo took it, and now Honor wants it back. So, it looks like this is going to be a yearly back-and-forth between the two.
But it's not just Oppo in the race. Samsung is also expected to launch its slimmest Galaxy Z Fold yet – likely just under 9 mm – though still probably not as thin as what Honor's cooking.
And then there's vivo, with the X Fold 5 set to drop next week. That one is also getting a slimmer body and, interestingly, a way bigger battery than both its predecessor and the upcoming Galaxy phone. Yep, if the leaks are right, Samsung's sticking with the same 4,400mAh battery again on the Fold 7 , while both Honor and vivo are going for 6,000mAh+ cells. So this year, it looks like battery life and design might not be Samsung's strong suits. But global availability? That's still a huge win for Samsung – and a big factor when it comes time to actually buy one of these in-store.
Honor Magic V5 expected specs:
Snapdragon 8 Elite
16 GB RAM or more
6,100mAh battery
200 MP periscope telephoto camera
Satellite messaging support
Loads of AI features
The Honor Magic V5 is shaping up to be a real threat in the foldables game and with three big launches lined up in the next few weeks, it has a shot at stealing the spotlight.
The current Magic V3 already edged out the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in our review scores (by 0.2 points, but still) and chances are the next-gen battle will not be as close. And if you care about thinness, Honor's clearly ahead and the V5 might be your best bet.I say 'might' because, well, availability is always the catch. There's a good chance this phone won't launch officially in the US – again. But if you are up for importing, this looks like a seriously tempting option.
The Magic V5 improves in basically every area compared to last year's model. And considering the Magic V3 already nailed the dream of a foldable that feels like a normal phone when closed, imagine how good an even thinner version will feel. Secure your connection now at a bargain price!

The FBI has a new warning for smartphone owners about a dangerous scam
The FBI often warns smartphone owners when there is a new attack against them that is going viral, threatening to steal their personal data. The bottom line is that when the G-men spot a scam that could lead to many smartphone users having their financial accounts wiped out, they will get the word out, hopefully alerting smartphone users, preventing them from making the fatal gaffes that leave their bank or securities accounts at $0 with no recourse. The latest scam catching the eyes of the FBI is called "brushing," and the warning comes from the Pittsburgh field office. Brushing has nothing to do with making your hair look nice or your teeth clean. The traditional brushing scam involves online vendors who ship merchandise to recipients who never ordered the product. The scammers use the personal information of the recipient to post a positive review of the product. The Pittsburgh field office of the FBI is sending out the warning about brushing. | Image credit-FBI As harmful as it is to have fake reviews dot the Internet super highway, the FBI says that there is now another variation of "brushing" that seeks to obtain the victims' personal data as a way to access their financial accounts and wipe them out. Similar to the aforementioned traditional "brushing scam," a package is sent to recipients who didn't order the product inside of it. The difference with this version of the scam is that these packages contain a QR code. To get the victims to scan the QR code, the scammers send the package without a return address or any clue to the name of the sender. The QR code collects personal and financial information that the victims reveal, while it also results in the downloading of malicious software on the victims' phones. The FBI warns smartphone users not to scan QR codes that come with unsolicited packages or other forms of communication. But don't expect the FBI to give you a warning without coming up with some suggestions that you should follow to prevent the scammers from wiping out your financial accounts: Beware of unsolicited packages containing merchandise you did not order. Beware of packages that do not include sender information. Take precautions before authorizing phone permissions and access to websites and applications. Do not scan QR codes from unknown origins. If you believe you are the target of a brushing scam, secure your online presence by changing account profiles and requesting a free credit report from one or all the national credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion) to identify possible fraudulent activity. The only way law enforcement can help stop these attacks is if victims report their experiences. The FBI does request that fraudulent or suspicious activities be passed along to them via the FBI IC3 website at (or tap this link). The G-men say that you need to be sure to include as much information as possible such as: The name of the person or company that contacted you. Methods of communication used, including websites, emails, and telephone numbers. Any applications you may have downloaded or provided permissions to on your electronic device. While you might think to yourself that this can't happen to you, the truth is that you really should be prepared mentally to deal with some kind of attack like "brushing." By tricking victims into scanning the QR code, the attackers know exactly how to get the information they need to break into financial accounts such as: Bank Accounts Securities trading accounts Crypto accounts Credit card accounts The best defense is to read the suggestions that the FBI listed and which can be found starting with the fifth paragraph of this story. Don't take this lightly. If your funds do get stolen from any of the above accounts, remember, there is no guarantee that you'll have any recourse.
