Anwar urges PKR leaders, members to strengthen organisation, gear up for GE16

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on all party leaders and members to strengthen the organisation, expand their networks and prepare for the 16th General Election (GE16).
The prime minister said PKR is not just a political party but a platform for the people's movement that carries the voice of real change.
"I invite all PKR leaders and members to continue to be the voice of those who are suffering, defenders of the weak and upholders of the values of truth, although the path is not easy and the struggle is long," he posted on Facebook.
Anwar said his presidential keynote address at the 2024/2025 PKR National Congress yesterday was not just a summary of government policies, but a call to action and a declaration of resolve to ensure that PKR continues to be a beacon of hope for the people.
He added that PKR must also be a strong fortress that rejects politics of hatred, slander and racism, which will only divide the people and weaken the country.
"I emphasise that reform struggles must continue without fear to strengthen integrity, reject corruption in any form and ensure national governance is based on the principles of justice, transparency and accountability.
"Reform is not merely a question of haste or popularity. It requires wisdom, patience and clear strategies. We must learn from historical figures like Umar Abdul Aziz and Václav Havel, who proved that lasting change is change done earnestly and with wisdom," he said.
Anwar also expressed his gratitude to PKR figures like former deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and new deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar, who never stopped contributing energy and ideas for the sake of the party and people.
"Differences of opinion must be celebrated with wisdom, not turned into excuses for division. We are not enemies of one another but brothers in the same struggle," he said.
In addition, the he stressed the importance of the people's continued support towards the achievement and direction of the Madani Economy that is being activated, including increasing foreign and domestic investments, which become a catalyst for sustainable economic growth.
He said the government also carried out targeted subsidy reforms that are fairer and more comprehensive, reducing the country's dependence on oil revenues for long-term sustainability, focusing specifically on the well-being of the people, including increasing the salaries of civil servants and protection for the poor.
"The Madani Government will continue to drive structural reforms that strengthen the education, health and housing sectors of the people. Initiatives such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah Programme, as well as various basic rural facilities, are manifestations of our commitment to safeguard the welfare of the people," he said.
The official election results announced yesterday saw Anwar winning the president's post unopposed, while Nurul Izzah defeated Rafizi for the deputy president's post. — BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 1,000 media practitioners from both local and international media organisations are expected to converge at the Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre (WTCKL) today for the climax of the National Journalists' Day (Hawana) 2025 celebration. The prestigious event will be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at Dewan Merdeka, WTCKL, at about 12 noon today and among those in attendance will be Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Dr Zaliha Mustafa, and Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching. Also present will be the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa, Chairman of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, and Bernama Editor-in-Chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the Project Director for Hawana 2025. Among the international media organisations joining in to enliven the climax of the celebration are Al Jazeera, China Central Television (CCTV), Jiji Press, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Vietnam News Agency (VNA), The Jakarta Post, and MediaCorp. The largest gathering of Malaysian media practitioners, themed 'New Era Journalism: Balancing AI and Ethics', is organized by the Ministry of Communications through Bernama as the implementing agency. The climax event today will also see the presentation of the Hawana 2025 Special Award and the Hawana 2025 Award by the Prime Minister to prominent journalists as a tribute to their contributions in the field of national journalism. The Prime Minister will also present contributions from Tabung Kasih@Hawana to three veteran journalists facing health issues, as a symbol of concern for the plight of media personnel who once coloured the nation's journalism landscape. The prestigious event will see Anwar present prizes to the winners of the Hawana-DBP 2025 Pantun Festival, which was held successfully on May 31, with winners taking home RM3,000 in cash, along with a trophy and a certificate of appreciation. This prestigious event marks the culmination of Hawana 2025, which runs from June 13 to 15, bringing together various programs and initiatives specifically for the media fraternity and media industry experts. The Hawana 2025 celebration continues with various meaningful activities, including media sports events featuring traditional games, as well as a roadshow to premier polytechnics in Selangor, Perak, and Johor to foster interest among the younger generation in the world of journalism and media. Before the climax event, the Hawana 2025 Forum will take place at Dewan Tun Hussein Onn at 9 am today, discussing the topic "Malaysian Media Council: Regulator or Media Protector"? followed by a technology sharing session titled "AI & Media: Tool, Threat or Opportunity"? The forum, jointly organised by Bernama and the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI), also serves as an important platform for the Protem Committee of the Malaysian Media Council (MMM) to voice their views on the direction of the industry post the approval of the MMM Bill 2024 in Parliament last February. Meanwhile, at the concourse of Sunway Putra Mall, the Hawana 2025 Carnival is still ongoing on its second day with various exciting activities, including casual talks with agencies, quiz, guest artist performances, colouring activities, meet-and-greet sessions, as well as forums and workshops related to creative writing, photography, podcasts, and media literacy. In the media interactive zone, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the world of live broadcasting through exhibition booths by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Media Prima Bhd, Astro, and TV AlHijrah. Also attracting attention are live broadcasts from the Hawana Mini Studio by Bernama TV, the interactive game 'Breaking News' by Bernama Radio, and the Safe Internet Campaign (KIS) exhibition organised by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). May 29 was gazetted as National Journalists' Day in conjunction with the publication of the first edition of the Utusan Melayu newspaper on May 29, 1939, to celebrate the contributions and services of media practitioners and veteran journalists in the development of the nation. Hawana 2025 also received support and cooperation from nearly 100 strategic partners.

Iran Launches Second Wave Of Strikes On Israel, Explosions Reported

Missiles launched from Iran are seen from Jerusalem, June 13, 2025. REUTERS/Ronen Zvulun TEHRAN, June 14 (Bernama-IRNA) -- Iran has launched a second round of strikes on targets inside Israel, with Israeli media reporting huge explosions as missiles rain down, Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported. Reports say missiles were launched from the capital, Tehran, and Kermanshah in western Iran towards targets deep inside Israel. Iran began retaliatory strikes on Israeli targets on Friday evening local time, after Israeli aggression targeted locations, including residential buildings, inside Iran. bootstrap slideshow Vivid images and footage captured by Israelis show Iranian missiles exploding upon impact and creating massive fireballs. A senior Iranian military official, General Ahmad Vahidi, said 'Operation True Promise 3' — as the Iranian retaliatory strikes are dubbed — will continue for as long as necessary. Overnight on Friday, the Israeli regime began a series of military strikes in and around the Iranian capital, Tehran, as well as other Iranian cities. Simultaneously, and anticipating a devastating Iranian response, Israeli Minister for Military Affairs Israel Katz declared a state of emergency across Israel. The Israeli military also carried out targeted strikes against Iran's top military brass. Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces, Major General Mohammad Baqeri, and Chief Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), Major General Hossein Salami, were killed in Tehran. Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei appointed new top military commanders on the same day. According to Iran's Envoy to the United Nations, Sa'eed Iravani, 78 people, including senior military officials, have been killed and 320 injured so far in Israeli strikes.
