Powys twins through to Slimming World national finals
TWIN sisters from Powys have made it through to the national finals of Slimming World's 'Two Together' competition after losing an incredible 7 stone, 7.5 pounds between them.
Kat James and Nat Morgan joined their local Slimming World group because they were frustrated at not being able to buy clothes that would fit them in high street stores.
Since then, they've transformed not only their weight, but their health, habits and confidence too.
They won the title of Brecon Slimming World's Two Together competition – which recognises and celebrates duos who are supporting each other on their weight loss journey.
This earned the twins a place at the national finals.
'What I've love most about Slimming World is how free I've felt,' said Kat, who once weighed 13st 7lbs and is now 9st 6.5lbs.
'When I've tried losing weight before I felt restricted and couldn't sustain it for long. I never thought I'd lose weight without giving up all the foods I enjoy like pizza, cheese and fast food, but I've learnt lasting weight loss is about balance – not restriction.
'My consultant Shelly helped me to see how the ideas from other members in the group could help me overcome my own personal hurdles and stoppers.
'I've learnt so much from everyone in the group and felt supported by Shelly every single step of the way. The group is just incredible, it's like a second family now.'
Nat, who has gone from 13st 12.5lbs to 10st 5.5lbs, said the journey wouldn't have been the same without the group, and Kat.
'There were weeks when I felt like giving up, but having Kat there too made all the difference,' she said.
'We've planned our weeks together and kept each other focused. And the group has cheered us on, picked us up when we needed it and shared so many great tips.
'I look forward to it every week and catching up with members who've become friends. It's a space where I feel understood, never judged and always inspired.'
As they lost weight, the pair also found themselves embracing a more active lifestyle. 'Before joining Slimming World, even the idea of exercising felt overwhelming,' added Nat.
'But my consultant made me realise I could take small steps towards my goals and hearing how others had started small made me believe I could do it too.
'I began by joining a gym and slowly built up my activity. Now, I go up to four times a week and I genuinely enjoy it.'
Now, group winners Kat and Nat have reached the semi-finals at Slimming World's head office in Derbyshire, where they will be joined by 12 fellow pairs to share their inspiring stories. A judging panel will select the overall winners.
Shelly Willetts, who runs the Brecon Slimming World group, said: 'I'm beyond proud of Kat and Nat. Their dedication, positivity and the way they lift everyone else in group is just amazing.
'They're living proof that with the right support and the right tools real change is possible.
'They've shared recipes, celebrated milestones and kept each other focused, they've overhauled their habits together and found their sparkle again.'

'Weight loss drugs can't replace power of group support', expert says
That is the opinion of a Slimming World manager who has been running classes in Flintshire for a number of years. Tracey Evans says such clubs are needed more than ever amid the growing popularity of weight loss medication. While the arrival of weight loss injections like Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro have changed the weight management landscape, Tracey Evans, who manages groups in Flintshire and runs groups in Buckley, says the drugs will never replace weight-loss methods based on lifestyle changes, like Slimming World can. Tracey became a Slimming World member 16 years ago. After having two children, she gained weight and was struggling to lose it alone. Slimming World expert Tracey Evans. (Image: UGC) She says: 'While, of course, we know and our members are living proof that lasting weight loss can be achieved without drugs, we also understand that when you're desperate to lose weight, it can be tempting to try something new that promises instant results. "The truth is though there's no magic bullet – losing weight and maintaining that weight loss requires change. Weight loss drugs need to go hand-in-hand with making changes to your diet, activity and mindset. They're not a replacement for those changes." Tracey says Slimming World's approach is focused on helping its members to make lasting changes, rather than achieving a quick fix. She said: 'Our healthy eating plan encourages members to eat nutritious, everyday food so they lose weight without deprivation, and we have an activity programme that helps members increase how much and how often they move, at their personal pace. "In our groups, members get behaviour change support which helps them to understand themselves more deeply as a slimmer and change the way they think about food, activity and their weight. TOP STORIES TODAY Wrexham man loses incredible seven stone in Slimming World journey "With over 55 years' expertise in helping people lose weight and transform their lives, we believe Slimming World offers the very best package there is when it comes to helping people to adopt healthy habits for life. "That's why we're committed to offering support to everyone, including providing wraparound care for members who are taking weight loss drugs alongside attending Slimming World.' Currently 64 million people in the UK are living with overweight and obesity. Tracey says: 'Many people join our groups after trying to lose weight beforehand, often alone and unsuccessfully. They understand they need support because it isn't easy – and it's even harder on your own. "Whether you're using weight loss medication or have had surgery, lasting change needs real support. My members form strong friendships in group, and there's nothing quite like the motivation and accountability that comes from losing weight with others who understand the challenges. "Being part of a group helps you to stay on track and committed until the changes you're making become everyday habits. 'While I wouldn't ever judge someone for going down the route of weight loss injections. I didn't choose that option because I feel confident that I've learned how to make changes I can keep up forever – so I'll never go back to the old me. 'I've changed the way I think about food and the expertise shared at group has helped me to see where and why my previous attempts at losing weight didn't work. "Now I know my triggers, I can spot when something might have the potential to send me off track and put a plan in place to protect my weight loss. I'm so grateful to Slimming World.'

Nigel said: "In all honesty, I have never felt hungry once during my weight loss, I love the variety in all the foods I can eat and I must admit I have learned so much at group about different foods that it has helped me plan my meals a few days in advance. "This helps me to food optimise to the maximum benefit, I love to use the Slimming World barcode scanner to scan my foods as go around the supermarket, this is another layer of support that Slimming World offers. He added: 'I walk for pleasure, rather than take the car, but the best thing is, I can play with the grandchildren rather just sitting and watching them and not having the energy to take part.
