Rajinikanth's Coolie Rakes in ₹216 Crore by Day 6, Outshines Hrithik-Jr NTR's War 2 Opening Week

Hans Indiaa day ago
Superstar Rajinikanth Coolie movie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, opened with a bang at the box office, and the Independence Day weekend helped it to maintain its opening instigation. Still, as the long vacation run has come to an end, a slight drop in the film's collections is now conspicuous.
Coolie Review
Coolie, the Rajinikanth action drama, continues to be a cause for celebration among his fans as the film has already earned Coolie day 6 earnings Rs 200 crore mark in India. The film is also facing a strong challenge with its simultaneous OTT release. However, since the weekend Hrithik Roshan Jr NTR War 2 also released on the same day.
Coolie Box Office Collection Day 6
Sacnilk early estimates suggested that Coolie on Day 6, i.e., Tuesday, took Rs 9.50 crore in the domestic market, bringing its next six-day collections to Coolie Rs 216 crore. Coolie collected a whopping Rs 65 crore on its opening day courtesy its festive weekend window.
Friday collections dipped by 15% to Rs 54.75 crore, but a 2-day weekday holds great promise. However, the weekend witnessed a slow decline with Rs 39.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 35.25 crore on Sunday.
Even though the footfalls for the Rajinikanth starrer are low on a non-holiday weekday, the Coolie movie record continues to hold strong in the theaters drawing some great numbers across multiplexes and single screens.
Coolie vs War 2
The opening weekend for these two films witnessed one of Bollywood's most watched blockbuster showdown in recent times. Both the films opened to huge numbers, but Rajinikanth box office 2025 continued to hold an edge over War 2 in its initial run.

Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi summoned by Pune court over portrayal of lawyers in ‘Jolly LLB 3'

A civil court in Pune Monday issued summons to the director and actors of the upcoming Bollywood movie Jolly LLB 3, starring Akshay Kumar, following a complaint filed by Pune-based advocate Wajed Khan that the film may defame judges and lawyers. The summons dated August 18, issued by Junior Division Civil Judge J G Pawar, asked director Subhash Kapoor, actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi to appear in the court on October 28. The movie is scheduled for release on September 19. Khan said the recently out teaser of the movie contained objectionable language about judges and lawyers under the guise of cinematic liberty. Khan said he filed the civil suit with fellow advocate Ganesh Mhaske. The summons asks the makers of the movie to appear in the court in person to 'answer the claim' and produce all documents upon which they intend to rely in support of their defence. 'Take notice that, in default of your appearance on the day before mentioned, the suit will be heard and determined in your absence,' it stated. The summons, however, wrongly names Akshay Kumar as Arun Bhatia instead of his birth name, Rajiv Bhatia. 'I will file a correction application in the court for changing the name Arun Bhatia on a summons. It should be Rajiv Bhatia alias Akshay Kumar, who is a lead actor of the movie Jolly LLB 3,' said Khan. Khan said the summons has been dispatched to Kumar, Kapoor, and Warsi by post to their respective addresses in Mumbai. Jolly LLB 3 is the third instalment in the legal comedy franchise. The first part starring Warsi was released in 2013. The sequel, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead, became a superhit, earning over Rs 200 crore worldwide. Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare produce the third part of the franchise under the banner of Star Studio 18.

Decoding The Economics Of War 2: Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani starrer is a losing fare but YRF mitigates giant losses

War 2, directed by Ayan Mukerji, and starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani is in discussions, but for all the wrong reasons. The movie failed to strike a chord with the audience, and it can be seen in the collections that are tumbling down, faster than anyone thought. The movie sits at just under Rs 300 crore worldwide at the close of its extended week 1, and there's not much we can expect from the movie in its run ahead. YRF Looks To Book A Loss Of Around Rs 30 Crore From War 2 The film's costs are massive and the movie should have been doing much better than it is, to be in a safe position. The recoveries from War 2 for YRF are going to be to the tune of Rs 420 crore, against costs of Rs 450 crore including interests, print and advertising expenses, and majority remunerations. The recoveries include the outright purchase of the Andhra state rights due to the faith that the distributor had on YRF, while the budget doesn't include the profit-sharing amount that Hrithik Roshan was liable to get if the movie worked. Practically, Hrithik Roshan will settle for an amount that is lower than his market value, while the Andhra distributor will lose heavily. The non-theatrical rights of the movie had been presold for a massive sum, and here's where YRF's reputation has come into play. Despite War 2 not doing well at all at the box office, the production company stands to only lose Rs 30 crore. Have A Look At The Economics For War 2 The Total Losses From War 2 Are In The Range Of Rs 125 Crore; But YRF Loses Only 30 Crore Unless They Settle; Here's How There have been rumours that YRF will be settling the losses of the Andhra distributor but there is no confirmation on the same. There practically will be redistribution of losses and nothing else. Instead of Rs 30 crore, YRF may lose 55 crore, so that the losses of the Andhra distributor is in the Rs 25 crore range instead of Rs 50 crore currently. If YRF happens to settle the losses of the Andhra distributor, the biggest loser from the project will be Hrithik Roshan, who will be settling for less than half of his prevailing market value. The market value is a variable element that changes with every movie. It can be assumed that after War 2's theatrical run, Hrithik's ask price will substantially reduce. 2025 Continues To Be A Year To Cherish For YRF, Courtesy Saiyaara Despite the debacle of War 2, YRF shall cherish 2025 because it has given them, undoubtedly, their biggest hit in terms of net profits. Based on our analysis, YRF's profits from Saiyaara are almost Rs 275 - 300 crore. They can bear a loss of Rs 30 - 55 crore against the profits they've made, and against the two sensations that they've created, who can become their cash cows, atleast till the time that they two are in a position to demand what they want. War 2 In Theatres War 2 plays in theatres now. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.
