Mark Wright has faced a wave of criticism from his followers after posting a video of himself pushing his dad into a swimming pool in seemingly shallow water. The 38 year old former star of The Only Way Is Essex is the son of ex-car dealership businessman Mark Wright, Sr, 68, and former events organiser Carol Wright, 64.
The Wright family - which also includes reality TV star Jess, 39, footballer Josh, 35, and model Natalya, 24 - have made appearances on various reality shows, including the BBC's A Wright Old Adventure as well as ITV's Towie. As a result, fans have had hours of footage about the family and have been given an intimate look into their personal lives.
Moreover, fans have felt even closer to Mark and his family through social media. However, over the weekend, Mark seemed to cross the line when he shared footage of a prank that many fans feared could have gone disastrously wrong.
On Saturday, Mark took to Instagram to share a video clip of himself sneaking up on his father who was standing at the edge of a swimming pool. Other family members were gathered in and around the pool as Mark quietly approached his father.
As he got to the older businessman, Mark reached out and pushed his dad into the pool - shoving him in at the shallow end where tiled steps led down to the water and where a young boy was swimming casually. After being submerged, Mark Sr resurfaced and appeared less than pleased, reports the Mirror.
He let out a string of expletives as he fished his mobile phone from his shorts, which was in jeopardy due to the water. In the background, Mark could be heard chuckling at the scene.
The ex-Towie celebrity posted the video on his profile with an apologetic caption: "Sorry for the language the old man didn't like that one @bigmarkwright," accompanied by laughing emojis.
However, the prank fell flat with many of his audience, who voiced their concerns in the comments. One person responded: "Not funny with the steps and the child, could have ended badly."
Another expressed their anxiety: "Did anyone else has anxiety over the little boy getting squashed in that water? ?" This sentiment was echoed by others, with one commenting on the potential for injury: "that and his dad breaking his ankle on steps" and another adding: "also that his old man could have seriously gone over on his ankle or hurt his knee, hip etc. I'm all for fun but no chance I'd be doing this to my dad."
One follower criticised the act as "So bloody dangerousl pushing someone into a pool ffs." Another simply stated: "Not even slightly funny."
Some accused Mark of repeating disrespectful behaviour towards his parents, with a comment noting: "This is not funny why you so rude to your parents I've seen this in your reality shows as well."
However, some came to the star's defence with a comment: "God what a load of Karen's, in the top message.hes dads fine it's a family thing. So stop."
Meanwhile, there was more empathy for Mark Sr's apparent frustration from another user who posted: "With his phone in his pocket I'd be fuming."
The family's reaction was also visible online, with Mark's elder sister chiming in with: "Of course daughter Jess comes to the rescue."
The youngest sibling, Natalya, added her own take, saying: "Poor dad" accompanied by a crying-with-laughter emoji.

BBC Antiques Roadshow guest gobsmacked as items he saved from skip worth six-figures

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Viewers of Antiques Roadshow were left utterly gobsmacked on Sunday when a lucky chap discovered the eye-watering value of a collection he plucked from the brink of disposal. In the latest instalment set against the picturesque backdrop of Clissold Park in Stoke Newington, one eagle-eyed visitor presented an archive of works belonging to lauded designer Althea McNish, whose life journey took her from Trinidad to becoming a titan of fashion and textile design in 1950s Britain. The episode aired a remarkable reveal when the guest shared a "treasure trove" of McNish's items he salvaged from being chucked into a skip, leaving expert Ronnie Archer-Morgan virtually speechless. Recounting his lucky find, the man said: "2020, December, builders were throwing stuff away. I was a cheeky chappie, asked them if I could have a look, buy some bits and bobs, done a deal." (Image: BBC) Ronnie shed light on McNish's status as a leading post-war textile pioneer in Britain, mentioning her work graced designs for the likes of Liberty, Christian Dior and even royalty, with samples notably part of the collection sprawled out before him, reports the Express. Captivated, Ronnie highlighted McNish's contribution: "She brought the colour and vibrancy of Trinidad to the shores of post-war Britain, at a time where we really needed colour and she did all these fantastic designs that you see spread out on the table." Ronnie then confessed: "I'd like to try and value this, I know that half a square metre of certain of her designs can be £2,500 or a textile design itself can be that sort of money. "From what you've told me and what you've described and what I know, I think this archive that you've brought to us here is worth in excess of £250,000... in excess of and it needs to be calculated." (Image: BBC) The guest was utterly astounded as they shared: "That's blown me away! It's just been an incredible journey of learning and knowledge, I've loved every minute" and continued with gratitude, "Thank you, you've made my day, honestly!" to which Ronnie responded warmly: "Well, you've made mine too!". On Twitter, now X, one person commented: "First time I've heard of Althea McNish, but this collection seems amazing, #AntiquesRoadshow" prompting another to reply: "Hope it can be properly archived/ displayed." Another enthusiast tweeted: "Incredible valuation of £250000 for the Althea McNish archive on the #AntiquesRoadshow." Catch the continuation of Antiques Roadshow on BBC One, Sundays at 8pm.

EastEnders star details nightmare turbulence on flight after travel hell while battling with chronic illness symptoms

EASTENDERS star Melissa Suffield has revealed her nightmare journey home from a family holiday while battling her chronic illness. The actress - who used to play Lucy Beale in the BBC soap - was diagnosed with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) after experiencing "horrible nausea" in 2023. 2 2 And it has had a huge impact in her life - which makes her family holidays and quality time all the more precious. But today she has revealed that she had the journey from hell home - undoing the good the holiday did. Taking to Instagram, Melissa wrote: 'I've been a bit quiet because life has been a LOT. The trip away was so restorative but honestly the act of getting home undid it 'The ship didn't make it into the final port of my trip due to very bad weather, but obviously my flight was booked from there! 'So booked a flight home from the next available port very last minute, which was a midnight flight, which was delayed by 2 hours because of weather again, and then the ENTIRE 3 hour flight was mad turbulence and lightning out the window I s*** you not. 'I'm not a nervous flyer but I was on that flight. 'Honestly, not a fun experience, followed by only 4 hours of sleep and then a 3 hour train journey home with River and all my luggage. 'On the list of things I simply do not need in my life, this experience was a high ranking one.' Melissa added: 'Not aided by the fact that towards the end of the trip, my symptoms started getting worse. 'I think the combination of not eating anything other than steak and potatoes, as well as the stress of making a new very last minute plan and the childcare and everything that went along with that is probably what did it. Former EastEnders star has had '40 doctors appointments' and spent 'over five figures' amid gruelling health condition 'Also my period always makes everything worse- I've actually just had a test arrive that looks at your DNA and hormones to see if I can pin point anything I'm missing. 'But anyway, I am home now safe and sound, I have done all the washing, I've got full control over my diet again, and I've got my boy back. But I am feeling rough in a way that I haven't in a while, so l'm focusing all my energy on resting. What is SIBO? SIBO is also known as Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth. Melissa experiences nausea, reflux, constipation, and other symptoms like her hair falling out and suffering from dry skin. According to the Mayo Clinic, the condition occurs "when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine — particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract." Symptoms are listed as a loss of appetite, abdominal pain, nausea, bloating, an uncomfortable feeling of fullness after eating, diarrhea, unintentional weight loss, and malnutrition. 'I've got a really busy week next week too, so I've really got to try and get back on top of things quickly tbh. But when your nervous system is frazzled, that time limit way of thinking is completely counter productive.'

Axed TV host Jay Blades was weeks away from starring on new reality series before domestic violence arrest

TV HOST Jay Blades was weeks from starring on a daring new reality TV series when blindsided bosses axed him over his domestic violence arrest. The Repair Shop presenter, 55, was preparing to star in ITV's Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters, which starts tonight. 1 But the show was thrown into chaos after allegations of controlling and coercive behaviour against his wife Lisa Zbozen, which he denies. A TV insider told The Sun: 'Attracting a popular BBC star to be in the new ITV series was a big win for bosses. 'But as soon as Jay Blades was arrested in March 2024, they knew they had to make a quick decision about the future of the show. 'He was given the boot. 'Producers got lucky as they hadn't started filming or doing any promotion yet so were able to replace him with someone else. 'There were travel plans in place for the cast taking part in the show so it caused a lot of upset and disruption behind the scenes.' Blades is accused of causing Lisa, 43, to fear violence would be used against her on at least two occasions. The trial begins on August 26.
