Spider-Man: Brand New Day Kicks Off Filming Soon, And As A Walking Dead Fan, I Hope This Fancasting Pays Off In Real Life

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is constantly releasing new content, both in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. One of the most hotly anticipated upcoming Marvel movies is definitely Destin Daniel Cretton's Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will bring Tom Holland's title character back to the shared universe. There's some fan casting swirling around online, and as a Walking Dead fan I hope one actually comes true.
What we know about Spider-Man: Brand New Day is limited, but the recently revealed title is an exciting step forward. Fans are wondering who might be joining Tom Holland in the project, including chatter about Sadie Sink having a role. Some fans on Reddit notice the director was following Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun on Instagram, and think he'd be a great choice to bring Mister Negative to life on the big screen. And I am personally completely sold on this casting.
Yeun was a fan favorite on The Walking Dead before Glen's infamous death, and has taken a variety of exciting projects in the years that have followed. That includes his Emmy-winning performance in Beef, as well as movies like Jordan Peele's Nope. And after voicing the title character in Invincible (streaming with an Amazon Prime subscription), it seems like the perfect time to give him a live-action superhero role.
Mister Negative is a Spider-Man villain who has had less time on the page, debuting back in 2007. His Darkforce abilities give him a variety of powers, and is a primary foe of the wall crawler. He's perhaps best known for being the primary villain of Sony's Spider-Man video game, as well as his appearance in the sequel. Ever since these games became so wildly successful, fans have been wondering when the character might make the leap to live-action.

Of course, Destin Daniel Cretton is following on social media isn't any real indication as to what villains he's planning on including in the fourth Spider-Man movie. But fans spent years watching the Marvel movies in order, and are emotionally invested in the fan favorite character. So the theories, rumors, and fan castings will likely continue until some official announcements occur.
Yeun is clearly a wildly talented actor, but as someone who was a Walking Dead superfan during the flagship series' run on AMC, I'm ready to see him kicking ass on the screen again. He did a ton of actions dispatching zombies as Glenn, and watching him go toe to toe with Tom Holland's Peter Parker sounds thrilling.
Moviegoers are curious about what comes next for Holland's hero after Spider-Man: No Way Home's ending, which saw him erased from the memories of anyone who knew him. Brand New Day is currently expected to arrive in theaters on July 31st, 2026, so I'm not expecting any footage coming with the 2025 movie releases.

Decades After Its Joint-Venture Journey Began, Hulu's Sole Ownership By Disney 'Finally Resolved' With $439M Payment To NBCU, Bob Iger Exults
The long and winding road of Hulu, which started in the pre-smartphone era as a streaming joint venture involving NBC and Fox, has concluded with the finalizing of Disney's buy-out of Comcast. Disney is paying an extra $438.7 million to Comcast's NBCUniversal, on top of the $8.6 billion it committed in 2023 under the terms established in a put/call arrangement unveiled in 2019. That deal, which was accompanied by Disney's $71.3 billion acquisition of most of 21st Century Fox, fueled Disney's streaming ambitions as it prepared to launch Disney+. More from Deadline It Starts On The Page (Limited): Read 'Dying For Sex' Episode 1 Script "Good Value Diet Soda" By Kim Rosenstock & Elizabeth Meriwether Iris Apatow Joins Season 3 Of Hulu's 'Tell Me Lies' As Recurring 2025 Premiere Dates For New & Returning Series On Broadcast, Cable & Streaming While Disney gained full operational control of Hulu, the agreement preserved Comcast's one-third financial position pending the outcome of negotiations over the final price. A $27.5 billion floor value was set, with multiple third-party appraisals then entering the discussions. Disney's appraisal, not surprisingly, came in below the $27.5 billion level, while NBCU rendered an estimate that was 'substantially' higher, Disney said in an SEC filing. Disney CEO Bob Iger and Comcast CEO Brian Roberts publicly jockeyed over the value of the service in a sector increasingly defined by streaming. The transaction, completed Monday, 'takes into account the valuation of a third appraiser,' the filing explained. Had the NBCU appraiser prevailed, the result would have been a payment to Comcast/NBCU of about $5 billion, Disney said. The buyout is slated to close on or before July 24. 'We are pleased this is finally resolved,' Iger said in a statement. 'We have had a productive partnership with NBCUniversal, and we wish them the best of luck. Completing the Hulu acquisition paves the way for a deeper and more seamless integration of Hulu's general entertainment content with Disney+ and, soon, with ESPN's direct-to-consumer product, providing an unrivaled value proposition for consumers.' Comcast said in a statement provided to Deadline, 'Hulu was a great start for us in streaming that generated nearly $10 billion in proceeds for Comcast and created an important audience for NBCUniversal's world-class content. We wish Disney well with Hulu and appreciate the cooperative way our teams managed the partnership.' Disney has been more closely integrating Hulu with its Disney+ flagship and its linear networks in recent years. Hulu remains a key participant in Disney's vertical bundles as well as a successful one involving a third-party, HBO Max. After NBC and Fox hopped onboard the streaming pioneer ahead of its official founding in 2007, Disney soon followed and Time Warner would go on to take a 10% stake. In-fighting often hindered the progress of Hulu as its strategy continuously shifted. While each participant in the JV fell away as companies pursued their own independent strategies, the irony is that a Hulu-style coming together of legacy players is now coalescing as media giants grapple with the costs and murky financials of streaming compared with the lucrative pay-TV business. Chris Evans Says It's ‘Sad' Not to Be ‘Invited to the Party' For ‘Avengers: Doomsday': ‘It's Going to Be Much Harder When It Comes Out'
Chris Evans is bummed he is missing out on all the fun in 'Avengers: Doomsday.' In a recent conversation with ScreenRant, Evans, who played Captain America across eight MCU films, was asked if he still stays in contact with his former Marvel collaborators, considering his exclusion from the highly anticipated 'Avengers: Doomsday.' Evans confirmed that they all keep in touch, but added it feels different having exited the franchise in 'Avengers: Endgame.' More from Variety 'Materialists' Review: Celine Song's Follow-Up to 'Past Lives' Is a Rom-Com Played Straight, With Dakota Johnson as a Matchmaker Tangled Up in Love and Money Chris Evans Skipped His Movie's Cannes Premiere Because It Was His Mom's 70th Birthday and 'Some Things You Just Can't Miss' 'Avengers' Delayed: Marvel Pushes 'Doomsday' and 'Secret Wars' to December 2026 and 2027 'Yeah, I talk to them all the time,' Evans said. 'It's where Pedro [Pascal] is right now. I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out, and you feel like you weren't invited to the party.' In 'End Game,' Evans' Captain America ages out of the star-spangled shield after traveling back in time to return the Infinity Stones. He decides to stay in the past with his true love, Peggy Carter, and in the present day, passes the Captain America moniker to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson. While Evans is staying behind, his 'Avengers' co-stars Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. are returning for 'Doomsday.' Hemsworth will return as Thor, but Downey will come back as the titular super villain Doctor Doom, instead of Iron Man. Other familiar MCU faces returning for 'Doomsday' include Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier; Paul Rudd as Ant-Man; Tom Hiddleston as Loki; Letitia Wright as Shuri and Mackie as Captain America. While originally set for release on May 1, 2026, 'Doomsday' was recently delayed to Dec. 18, 2026. Its sequel, 'Avengers: Secret Wars,' was also pushed. First slated to premiere on May 7, 2027, the film will now hit theaters Dec. 17, 2027.
