Is Caitlin Clark playing tonight against the Washington Mystics? Latest update on the Indiana Fever star's injury report (August 15, 2025)
The
Indiana Fever
will be without star guard
Caitlin Clark
when they face the Washington Mystics tonight. Clark remains sidelined due to a right groin injury she sustained on July 15 during a game against the Connecticut Sun.
The setback has now kept her out for over a month, forcing her to miss at least 11 consecutive games, including tonight's clash.
Caitlin Clark's Slow and Careful Recovery Process
Fever head coach Stephanie White revealed that
Caitlin Clark
has recently progressed to running full-court at full body weight, but she has yet to be cleared for team practice. The plan is to build her endurance gradually - starting from light movement to extended on-court sessions - before considering game action.
For now, there is no official timetable for her return, with the team prioritizing her long-term health over a quick comeback.

One of Clark's standout moments this season came on May 23, 2025, when she torched the Mystics for 34 points, 11 assists, and 6 rebounds. That performance showcased her elite scoring and playmaking ability - qualities
the Fever
sorely miss in her absence.
How the Indiana Fever is Adjusting Without Clark
With Clark out, the Indiana Fever has leaned heavily on Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, and Sophie Cunningham to carry the offense. The team also added veteran guard Odyssey Sims via a hardship contract to help offset injury-related depth issues.
Currently sitting sixth in the WNBA standings, Indiana is still battling for a stronger playoff position.

Lionel Messi set to return from injury against LA Galaxy
Inter Miami star Lionel Messi is ready to return from injury for Saturday's match against the Los Angeles Galaxy in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., head coach Javier Mascherano said Friday. The 38-year-old forward missed the Herons' last two matches with a right leg injury sustained in the first half of a Leagues Cup win against Necaxa on August 2. Messi returned to training earlier this week. 'Leo is fine,' Mascherano said. 'He's been with the team since Wednesday. We believe that if nothing unusual happens, he'll be called up for tomorrow's game.' Messi is tied with Nashville's Sam Surridge in the race for the MLS Golden Boot with 18 goals. The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner from Argentina also has 10 assists in 17 MLS matches this season. Miami (12-5-6, 42 points) enters the weekend in sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings, currently six points above the playoff cutline. The Herons have also reached the Leagues Cup quarterfinals.

Fire look to avoid upset vs. St. Louis City, push unbeaten streak to 5
With points at a premium as they look to remain in playoff position, the Chicago Fire have no reason to take lowly St. Louis City for granted, especially after they just stunned one of the top teams in MLS. HT Image The Fire look to push their unbeaten run to five in a row Saturday night in Bridgeview, Ill., against a St. Louis side coming off last weekend's stunning 3-1 victory over Nashville SC, the third-place team in the Eastern Conference. Chicago (10-9-6, 36 points) owns the final playoff spot in the East but is far from comfortable, as the club is tied in points with the 10th-place New York Red Bulls. Though the Fire are amid a 2-0-2 stretch, they blew two one-goal leads during last weekend's 2-2 home draw versus Los Angeles FC. "It was very, very frustrating because we played really well, but it was good because we showed progress," said Chicago's Jonathan Bamba, who scored his fourth goal of the season. "We're playing really well together." Chicago hasn't allowed more than two goals in 11 consecutive regular-season contests. However, it also hasn't scored more than two in six straight matches. Looking to add some offensive depth, the Fire acquired midfielder Andre Franco from Portuguese club FC Porto this week. He totaled 20 goals and 16 assists in more than 140 club matches. Meanwhile, St. Louis (5-14-6 with 21 points) is looking to win two straight matches for just the second time in 2025 after last doing so in mid-March. The club had also only scored a season-high three goals twice all season before its big upset last weekend. Jaziel Orozco, Joao Klauss and Sangbin Jeong each scored versus Nashville SC. "We know that we are having ups and downs during the season, but you can see that the team is improving," said Klauss, who leads the team with eight goals and scored twice during a 3-1 home victory over Chicago last season. "We know that we have to do more." St. Louis has lost seven road games in a row and recorded its only away victory at the Los Angeles Galaxy on March 9. The club also lost its only previous trip to Chicago, 1-0, in May 2023. St. Louis will try to contain Fire All-Star Philip Zinckernagel, who has 10 goals with 12 assists in 2025. --Field Level Media

Veteran GM delivers crisp response to Carlsen's criticism of Indian chess: 'At the end of the day there is...'
In an exclusive conversation on the latest episode of First Sports, Grandmaster Koneru Humpy responds to the West's skepticism over India's rise as a chess superpower while opening up on the historic all-Indian FIDE Women's World Cup final against Divya Deshmukh. Grandmaster Koneru Humpy gave a crisp response to critics who remain skeptical of India's meteoric rise in the world of chess, stating that they simply needed to let their titles and gold medals do the talking without having to get into an argument. World No 1 and five-time world champion Magnus Carlsen is among those from the West who are yet to be convinced of India's rise as a chess superpower despite the country completing a rare golden sweep at the 45th Olympiad last year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The year 2024 had also witnessed D Gukesh make history by becoming the youngest world champion and youngest winner in the Candidates tournament. Fellow GM R Praggnanandhaa had won the prestigious Tata Steel Chess in February, and happens to be among the top-10 in the FIDE Classical ratings along with Gukesh and Arjun Erigaisi. 'There will always be criticism. At the end of the day there is title, gold medals and victory for the country,' Humpy said in an exclusive conversation on the latest episode of First Sports. More recently, Humpy had become only the second player in chess history to be crowned women's world rapid champion more than once. And just last month, she had squared off in a historic all-Indian final against Divya Deshmukh in the FIDE Women's World Cup, which the latter won 2.5-1.5. Only one player – GM Harika Dronavalli – had reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious event in past editions. The third edition in Georgia's Batumi, however, had four Indians in the quarters, with Divya and Humpy making their way to the final after defeating Chinese GMs Tan Zhongyi and Lei Tingjie respectively. Two Indians in the final 'something unexpected': Humpy Both players secured their qualification for next year's Women's Candidates Tournament in the process. 'Having two Indians was something unexpected. That too in a knockout format. It is very common for players to be tied in a ranking or classical event. In knockouts, from two different groups - two Indians coming to the finals. Before that we had four Indians in the quarterfinals - That itself is a remarkable achievement. Indian chess is in a great position and thanks to the support of all the officials,' Humpy continued. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The 38-year-old GM, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, also praised young Divya for playing a 'solid Classical game' and putting her under pressure in the final, which went into the tie-breaks after back-to-back draws. 'Coming to the final - I didn't show my energy levels. Divya played a solid classical game. I couldn't get much out of that. When it came to tie break - The first game was a chance to take the initiative but I missed it out. Later on when it was equal, I started taking the pressure and went with the wrong choices. It was the lack of energy towards the end. It was one of the reasons I couldn't perform up to the mark. Divya utilised the opportunity,' she added. Watch the full episode here:
