FM meets with members of Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and Peacekeeping
The move comes in preparation for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development.
The meeting reviewed the center's recent activities and training programs aimed at enhancing capacity building in areas of conflict resolution, peacekeeping, and peacebuilding, especially in sisterly African countries; within the framework of Egypt's support for the continent's peace and development agenda, the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The meeting also touched on ongoing preparations for the fifth edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development, scheduled for October 19-20, with high-level African and international participation along with thought leaders, entrepreneurs, and civil society organizations.
Abdelatty emphasized the pivotal role played by CCCPA as a tool of preventive diplomacy and praised the tangible achievements it has made in recent years as regards training both civilian and military cadres from various countries, thereby enhancing Egypt's status as a regional and international hub of expertise in areas of peace and security.
He also affirmed the need to continue developing the center's programs in line with the growing challenges facing peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts while paying special attention to empowering women and youth in these areas, in accordance with the African Union's Agenda 2063.
The foreign minister pointed out the importance of ensuring that the upcoming edition of the Aswan Forum reflects the priorities of the African continent, particularly in light of escalating challenges linked with armed conflicts, climate change, food security, and development crises.

NEW ALAMEIN, Egypt, Aug 9 (MENA) - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty Saturday said that Egypt and Turkey are sharing almost identical views on ways of addressing crises and challenges facing the region. Abdelatty made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan Saturday in New Alamein City. Abdelatty welcomed Fidan and his accompanying delegation and praised the constructive consultations held earlier in the day, which reflected the close ties between the two countries. The top Turkish diplomat was received Saturday morning by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi who discussed with him all aspects of bilateral relations and a number of regional crises and challenges, Abdelatty said. During a meeting, Fidan listened to President Sisi's vision on these aforementioned issues, Abdelatty said. He added that the Turkish Foreign Minister's visit comes at a critical time, coinciding with the centennial of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Turkey. Celebrating this milestone reflects the depth of bilateral ties and the shared understanding of the need for coordination to strengthen cooperation, most notably through the launch of the high-level strategic council, co-chaired by President Sisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which was inaugurated during President Sisi's visit to Ankara in September. Egypt, Turkey discuss Gaza, Libya, aim to boost trade to $15bn
The foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkey on Saturday discussed the 'humanitarian catastrophe' in Gaza and other regional crises, and agreed to work on boosting bilateral trade to $15bn, Egypt's foreign ministry said. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty hosted his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan in the coastal city of Alamein for a bilateral meeting followed by an expanded session of talks. The two ministers expressed a shared desire to enhance cooperation in all fields, especially as this year marks the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the ministry said in a statement. Abdel-Aty stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, held in Istanbul in September 2024, to launch a new phase of cooperation. He said Egypt looks forward to increasing direct Turkish investments and intensifying cooperation in production, manufacturing, energy, transport, and tourism. The talks also covered regional and international issues, with a focus on the situation in the Palestinian territories. The ministers condemned the 'Israeli cabinet's decision to occupy the entire Gaza Strip' and affirmed the need to counter what they called 'Israel's arrogance of power, which undermines security and stability in the region.' Abdelatty warned that Israel's policy of 'systematic starvation and genocide' fuels conflict and extremism. He reviewed Egypt's efforts, in partnership with Qatar and the United States, to reach a ceasefire agreement and deliver humanitarian aid to the strip. The discussions also covered developments in Libya, with Abdelatty emphasizing the need to hold presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, dismantle militias, and ensure the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries. On Sudan, the ministers discussed the importance of reaching a ceasefire and allowing aid access. Abdel-Aty reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's state institutions and respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Regarding Syria, the Egyptian minister rejected any moves that would affect the security and stability of the Syrian people and condemned Israeli violations and its occupation of Syrian lands. The talks also touched on the situation in the Horn of Africa, with Abdelatty stressing the need to respect Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. During the meeting, the Egyptian foreign minister also expressed his appreciation for Turkey's support for the Egyptian candidate, Khaled El-Enany, for the post of Director-General of UNESCO.
