FD interest rates up to 9.10%: 15 banks offer 7.80% or more to seniors
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has cut the repo rate by 100 basis points since February 2025. In response, several banks have reduced their fixed deposit (FD) interest rates. But a few small finance and private banks continue to offer interest rates above 7.80 per cent, especially for senior citizens.
Top FD rates as of June 30, 2025
For deposits below Rs 3 crore, some small finance banks are offering relatively high FD rates for senior citizens. As of June 28, 2025, Unity Small Finance Bank is offering the highest FD rate at 9.10 per cent for a tenure of 1001 days. Suryoday Small Finance Bank follows with 8.80 per cent for tenures above 30 months and up to 3 years. Utkarsh Small Finance Bank is offering 8.75 per cent for deposits held between 2 and 3 years. Slice Small Finance Bank is offering 8.50 per cent for a narrowly defined window of 18 months 1 day to 18 months 2 days. Equitas Small Finance Bank offers 8.40 per cent for a tenure of 888 days.
All rates apply to senior citizens and are available on deposits of less than Rs 3 crore. These figures are based on each bank's official website as of June 28, 2025.
Regular depositors can also find rates above 8 per cent, though options are fewer. Experts say locking in the current rate may help, as further cuts could follow if the repo rate continues to drop.
Tax rules on FD interest
Interest earned on fixed deposits is taxable. If the interest exceeds a certain threshold, tax is deducted at source.
'Interest earned on FDs is taxable, with tax deducted at source (TDS) if it exceeds a specified limit,' said Adhil Shetty, CEO of BankBazaar.
The 2025 Union Budget raised the TDS threshold:
For general citizens: From Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000
For senior citizens: From Rs 50,000 to Rs 1 lakh
Take the example of Nupur, a 38-year-old resident of Noida. She earns Rs 75,000 in annual FD interest. Since the new threshold for general citizens is Rs 50,000, TDS applies on the excess Rs 25,000. At 10 per cent, the deducted tax is Rs 2,500.
That Rs 75,000 also counts as part of her total taxable income. But if her overall income is below Rs 2.5 lakh, she doesn't owe additional tax. To avoid TDS in such a case, she can submit Form 15G at the start of the financial year, declaring her income falls below the taxable limit.
Senior citizens can submit Form 15H for the same purpose.

FASTag Annual Pass Debuts With 1.4 Lakh Sales, 1.39 Lakh Transactions On Day 1
The pass, available at over 1,150 toll plazas nationwide, allows non-commercial vehicle owners unlimited travel for one year or up to 200 trips with a one-time payment of Rs 3,000 On its launch day, the FASTag annual pass recorded 1.4 lakh activations and 1.39 lakh toll transactions, according to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The pass, available at over 1,150 toll plazas nationwide, allows non-commercial vehicle owners unlimited travel for one year or up to 200 trips with a one-time payment of Rs 3,000. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said it has 'successfully implemented" the FASTag annual pass facility on national highways and expressways nationwide. Around 20,000-25,000 concurrent users are using the Rajmargyatra app at any given time, and annual pass users receive SMS messages for zero toll fee deduction. 'The Annual Pass has received an overwhelming response from the National Highway users. Till 7 pm on the first day of implementation, around 1.4 lakh users purchased and activated the annual pass and around 1.39 lakh transactions were recorded on toll plaza," it said. NHAI officials and nodal officers have been appointed at each toll plaza to ensure a smooth travel experience for the pass users, apart from addressing queries of the pass users through various channels. Also, to address the grievances of pass users, 1033 National Highway Helpline has been further strengthened with the addition of over 100 executives, the government said. Providing a seamless and economical travel option to the national highway users, the annual pass eliminates the need to frequently recharge FASTag through a one-time fee payment of Rs 3,000. The annual pass is applicable for all non-commercial vehicles with a valid FASTag and gets activated within two hours of the one-time fee payment through the Rajmargyatra app or NHAI website. With a penetration rate of around 98 per cent and over eight crore users, FASTag has revolutionised the electronic toll collection system in the country. The introduction of the annual pass facility will not only enhance the FASTag user experience but also make journeys on the national highways and expressways more economical and seamless. The annual pass can be attached to the user's existing FASTag card. Once the pass expires, either after one year or 200 trips, it can be easily recharged. The official said the pass would benefit frequent city-to-city travellers and those who drive regularly to their hometowns. 'You won't need to top up FASTag every week or month anymore," they added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Lokesh vows to transform AP with ‘double engine' governance
1 2 3 4 Guntur: Urging the youth to follow Mahatma Gandhi's advice — "Be the change you wish to see in the world" — IT and HRD minister Nara Lokesh said the state govt, under the leadership and vision of chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu, is working with the same spirit and commitment to transform Andhra Pradesh into a developed state. Lokesh hoisted the Tricolour at the police parade grounds to mark the 79th Independence Day celebrations on Friday, and took the guard of honour. Addressing the gathering, he said Andhra Pradesh witnessed "dark days" from 2019 to 2024. "The previous govt accumulated ₹10 lakh crore in debt, pushing the state back by 30 years. Development lost its track during their regime. People created history with a 94% strike rate in 2024, giving 164 seats to the NDA, breaking all records and establishing a people's govt," he said. With chief minister Naidu's vision being a constant guiding force in taking up revolutionary decisions, the double-engine govt has guided the state from darkness to light, Lokesh said. "The Centre has provided funds for the construction of Amaravati as the capital and for Polavaram project. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi's support, the govt was also able to save Vizag Steel Plant and establish the railway zone in Visakhapatnam. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Find your car's value online in minutes. He said the 'Super Six' promises made by the chief minister have become a "super hit," as they were implemented within a year of coming to power. "The govt increased pensions to Rs 4,000, Rs 6,000 for the differently-abled, and Rs 15,000 for bedridden beneficiaries. Rs 7,000 was disbursed to farmers in the first phase under Annadata Sukheebhava scheme. Additionally, the govt has provided two crore free gas cylinders to women under the Deepam scheme and launched free travel for women on APSRTC buses under Stree Shakti scheme," Lokesh said. He highlighted the launch of 'Thalli ki Vandanam' scheme, which provides Rs 15,000 to mothers of each schoolgoing child. A total of Rs 10,091 crore has been disbursed to 67.27 lakh children under the scheme, he said. He pointed out that while the previous govt failed to fill even a single teacher post, the NDA govt has filled 16,347 posts through a mega DSC.
