Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell talk 'Thunderbolts*'
Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell tell USA TODAY what it was like returning to the Marvel family in 'Thunderbolts*.'
Surprise! The latest Marvel film is no longer called "Thunderbolts*" in a new, spoiler-filled marketing push from the studio.
In an unusual move, Marvel has started to rebrand its movie "Thunderbolts*" under a different name, "The New Avengers," just three days after it hit theaters.
The Florence Pugh-led movie was advertised with an asterisk as part of its official title, and in the final scene, its lead group of heroes is given the name The New Avengers. During the credits, the title card "Thunderbolts*" is then replaced by "The New Avengers," implying this was the real title all along.
Now, Marvel has started changing the name of the film in various places, including on its social media accounts, to reflect this. On May 5, the studio shared a video on X showing Pugh, surrounded by her co-stars, ripping off a layer of the "Thunderbolts*" poster to reveal the "New Avengers" title underneath.
"New Avengers!" the cast shouts in the video, only for a shushing sound to be heard because the clip was presumably being recorded before the movie's release.
"The secret is out," Marvel said in another X post featuring the new version of the poster with the updated title.
The official X accounts for IMAX, Dolby and Fandango all shared new posters with the "New Avengers" title, as well, and a poster with the altered name replaced the original "Thunderbolts*" one on Fandango so moviegoers will see it when purchasing tickets.
The "New Avengers" name also replaced the "Thunderbolts* title on at least one billboard, and Marvel even shared a video showing star Sebastian Stan walking up to a bus stop to personally swap out the old poster with the new one.
Spoilers! 'Thunderbolts*' ending, post-credits scene sets up 'Avengers 5'
This marked a rare instance of Marvel, which is known for its secrecy, openly spoiling the end of one of its own films within days of release.
"Thunderbolts*" debuted with $76 million at the domestic box office. This was considered a solid opening, though a movie with "Avengers" in its title would be expected to have a far larger start. The question is now whether the title tweak will give the film a boost in ticket sales by attracting attention from casual fans who could be enticed by the "Avengers" connection.
Thunderbolts*' star Lewis Pullman wants a 'Doomsday' faceoff with RDJ
The ending of "Thunderbolts*" establishes that The New Avengers is now a team consisting of Yelena Belova (Pugh), Bucky Barnes (Stan), Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen) and Bob (Lewis Pullman).
But a post-credits scene reveals that the New Avengers are engaged in a copyright dispute over the Avengers name with Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), a.k.a. Captain America, who is forming his own Avengers team. That conflict is expected to lead into "Avengers: Doomsday," which stars most of the cast of "Thunderbolts*" and hits theaters in May 2026.

Red Skull Actor Didn't Know He Was in an AVENGERS Movie Until the Day of Shooting — GeekTyrant

When it comes to keeping secrets, Marvel Studios isn't messing around. Just ask Ross Marquand, the actor who stepped in to play Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. Apparently, even he didn't know he was in an Avengers movie until he was already on set. Marquand revealed during a panel at Awesome Con 2025: 'I didn't know what movie I was going to work on. They didn't tell me. They quite literally said it was a voice-matching job that may entail voice-matching this character that Hugo [Weaving] played, but they didn't even say that by name.' You'd think Marvel would at least give an actor they cast a little info on the project they'd been cast in. But nope, Marvel played it so close to the vest that even when Marquand arrived, he still wasn't clued in. 'It wasn't until I got to the set that they made me shave and put the [motion capture] dots on. I'm looking around, there's like a 150 people waiting for me. 'I'm like, 'This is not a regular voiceover job. What is going on?' That's when the makeup artist leaned over, and he said, 'Do you know what you're working on? This is the new Avengers movie.' I'm like, 'Oh, God.' I almost passed out.' That's one way to find out you've landed a role in one of the biggest franchises on the planet. Marquand, best known at the time for The Walking Dead, stepped in for Hugo Weaving, who famously said back in 2012, 'I think I've done my dash with that sort of film.' Marvel needed someone to replicate Weaving's voice for Red Skull's unexpected return as the ghostly gatekeeper of the Soul Stone, and Marquand delivered. He first appeared guiding Thanos and Gamora on Vormir, then reappeared in Endgame for a soul-swapping encore with Hawkeye and Black Widow. Marquand's Marvel contributions haven't stopped there. He's been the go-to guy for voice-matching since. He voiced Infinity Ultron in What If…? with a pitch-perfect spin on James Spader's Ultron and more recently brought Professor X to life in X-Men '97, channeling Cedric Smith. As for whether he'll show up again in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars, well... knowing Marvel, he probably won't find out until someone starts gluing dots to his face again. Via ComicBook

New Rumor Claims That Marvel Is Looking at THE BEAR Star Jeremy Allen White for New MCU Role — GeekTyrant

With a bunch of new ensemble projects coming up for Marvel, it's no wonder that there are a ton of rumors swirling around about big name actors that are joining the MCU for the first time. The latest comes from industry scooper Daniel Richtman, who says, "Jeremy Allen White is being eyed for a Marvel role." The actor, who is best known for his role in the hit series The Bear , as well as the long-running fan-favorite drama Shameless , and The Iron Claw , is in high demand right now. Aside from the upcoming fourth season of The Bear , set to debut on June 25th, White will be portraying Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere , in theatres on October 24th. He is also set to take on the role of Rotta the Hutt in the feature Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu , out next year. White is a great actor, and would be an asset to the MCU, but this is just a rumor for now. If there is any merit to it, which Marvel character would you like to see Jeremy Allen White play?

Diddy told Cassie's friend 'I'm the devil and I could kill you,' she testifies

Among the disturbing allegations emerging from Sean "Diddy" Combs' ongoing criminal trial is a statement the hip-hop mogul supposedly said to one of Cassie Ventura Fine's friends years ago. Bryana "Bana" Bongolan testified June 4 that she was doing an impromptu beach photoshoot with Ventura Fine and a photographer friend one day when Combs went up to her and issued a threat. "He came really close to my face and said, 'I'm the devil and I could kill you,'" she told the court. She admitted she was likely high on cocaine at the time. Regardless, she "was terrified" and unsure why Combs said that to her. Bongolan's remarks came on the 20th day of Combs' trial, which kicked off with jury selection on May 5. During her time on the stand, which will continue into a second day of cross-examination, Bongolan also detailed a 2016 incident in which Combs allegedly held her up on Ventura Fine's 17th-floor balcony and balanced her on the railing, making her think that she might fall. The event was first described in Ventura Fine's 2023 lawsuit, and Bongolan filed her own suit seeking $10 million in damages from Combs a year later. Bongolan told the court she'd first met Ventura Fine in the mid-2010s while working at a streetwear company called Diamond Supply Company, where the latter had been tapped to design a clothing line. She didn't meet Combs until about a year into their friendship, Bongolan said, but she knew she "wasn't fond of what I was seeing" in his relationship with Ventura Fine. She didn't really want to meet him, she testified. Bongolan also said that during a FaceTime before "The Perfect Match" premiere, she witnessed the black eye Ventura Fine allegedly suffered from Combs assaulting her in the hallway of the InterContinental Hotel in May 2016. "I was pretty quiet. I remember saying, 'I'm sorry.' She was also pretty quiet," Bongolan testified. Federal prosecutors claim Combs led a "criminal enterprise" that operated on sex trafficking, kidnapping, drug offenses and forced labor, among other crimes. Combs leveraged his wealth and celebrity status to "fulfill his sexual desires" in a "recurrent and widely known" pattern of abuse, investigators allege. He faces two counts of sex trafficking, two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution and one count of racketeering. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
