India won't stay silent on Pak proxy war: Surya

Panama, May 28 (UNI) India today sent a strong and unequivocal message to the world that it stands united on matters of national security and will no longer tolerate aggression or attempts to destabilise the nation, said Tejasvi Surya, BJP MP from Karnataka.
Addressing a delegation comprising representatives from diverse states and political parties, Surya emphasised that despite India's rich diversity in languages, religions, and cultures, the country speaks with one voice when it comes to safeguarding its sovereignty.
"This is the foremost message India wants to convey internationally — on national security, we are united and resolute," Surya said.
The all-party delegation led by Shashi Tharoor has arrived in Panama City for a three-day official visit, following the conclusion of their trip to Guyana.
During their stay, the MPs will engage with Panamanian leadership as well as key representatives from the media, strategic sectors, the Indian community and diaspora, and friends of India in Panama, according to a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Panama.
Surya stressed that India's primary mission remains to achieve collective, inclusive prosperity and improve the living standards of its people while rapidly emerging as the world's third largest economy.
However, Pakistan continues to pose a persistent threat through its policy of proxy warfare aimed at distracting and destabilising India. "For over 70 years, Pakistan has pursued a strategy of 'bleeding India by a thousand cuts,' seeking to hinder our growth and progress," Surya said.
Despite these challenges, India has emerged as the world's fourth largest economy and is firmly on the path of rapid development.
The BJP leader reiterated that India will not remain silent in the face of attacks. 'The days of passivity are over. If provoked, India will respond decisively, including through operations beyond our borders if necessary, to protect our national interests,' he declared.
Surya's remarks echoed the firm stance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring India's readiness to defend its sovereignty and maintain regional peace. UNI BDN SSP

Declare Amritsar a ‘no-war zone: Congress MP Randhawa writes to PM

Gurdaspur Congress MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to take steps towards declaring Amritsar district, which is home to the Golden Temple, a 'no-war zone'. The letter was sent weeks after the latest India-Pakistan armed conflict. Amritsar MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla also wrote a similar letter to the Prime Minister. On May 7, India carried out pre-dawn missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. Following the Indian action, Pakistan launched an offensive against Indian military bases and resorted to shelling the border areas for the next three days. In the letter, Randhawa wrote that the city is the spiritual heartbeat of the Sikh faith. 'Its sacred aura transcends religious boundaries, offering comfort, unity, and compassion in a world increasingly torn apart by conflict and division. 'I wish to clarify that this appeal is not a request for political sovereignty akin to the Vatican City, but rather a plea for international spiritual recognition and enduring security protections. 'In an era marked by rising global tension and militarisation, it is imperative that Sri Amritsar is shielded from the threats of war and violence - now and forever,' Randhawa said. 'As many global powers lean increasingly toward conflict, the Sikh ethos of 'Sarbat da Bhala' (the welfare of all) must be elevated and preserved as one of humanity's last hopes for coexistence and peace,' he said. He said that recent geopolitical tensions, particularly during the Indo-Pak standoff, have revived legitimate concerns regarding Amritsar's potential vulnerability in the event of military conflict. 'These concerns, voiced by the Sikh community and civil society alike, necessitate a broader vision - one that goes beyond regional anxieties and calls for an international framework to guarantee the safety and sanctity of this revered city under all circumstances,' the MP said. 'For the Sikh faith, Sri Amritsar holds the same spiritual gravity as Mecca does for Muslims and the Vatican for Christians,' he pointed out. 'It is, therefore, my humble submission that the global spiritual significance of Sri Amritsar be officially recognised, and that appropriate international security mechanisms-akin to those safeguarding the Vatican-be considered and adopted,' he said. He urged that the government of India should initiate necessary diplomatic and legislative steps toward declaring Amritsar a 'no-war zone' and work with international bodies to establish enduring protection of the city.

"#IStandWithKamalHaasan" trends as fans back actor amid 'Thug Life' Karnataka release row

Legendary Tamil actor has made the difficult choice not to release his highly anticipated pan-Indian gangster drama, 'Thug Life', in Karnataka on June 5. This decision follows a controversy over a statement he made regarding the origins of the Kannada language, which has led to protests and demands for an apology. The decision to forego the Karnataka release is expected to cost 'Thug Life' and its makers, including Kamal Haasan and director , an estimated Rs 12 to 15 crore as per a OneIndia report. Despite this financial setback, Kamal Haasan has found considerable support from fans and movie enthusiasts, with the hashtag "#IStandWithKamalHaasan" trending widely on social media. Many shared that Tamil is considered one of the oldest living languages in the world and that languages like Kannada have historical and linguistic ties to Tamil. Some users shared excerpts from Tamil textbooks that support this view, that Kamal Haasan's comments were based on factual information. One X user wrote, "What @ikamalhaasan said is 100% RIGHT. Tamil is the oldest living language in the world. Languages like Kannada & others have roots linked to Tamil — that's linguistic history, not offense. Truth doesn't need an apology. History doesn't need permission." Another user's tweet reads, "Respecting Kannada sentiments is important, but Tamil's historical influence on Kannada is a fact, not an insult. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Kamal Haasan's intent was misunderstood; his refusal to apologize is principled, not arrogant. Let's foster dialogue, not division. #ThugLife #IstandWithKamalHaasan." ACB summons ex-Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain in classroom construction scam case

NEW DELHI: The Anti-Corruption Bureau has summoned Aam Aadmi Party ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain regarding allegations of a Rs 2,000 crore corruption scam in the construction of government school classrooms in New Delhi. The investigation follows a complaint by BJP leaders claiming inflated costs for semi-permanent classroom construction, with 34 contractors allegedly linked to AAP. Minister Satyendar Jain has been called to appear at the ACB office on June 6, while Manish Sisodia is required to appear in Court on June 9. The complaint was filed by BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana, BJP MLA Kapil Mishra, and Neelkanth Bakshi from the BJP's Media Relations Department. Deputy Commissioner of Police Anti-Corruption Branch Shweta Singh Chauhan revealed that the investigation uncovered significant cost escalations and procurement rule violations. "We received a complaint against Manish Sisodia, former Deputy CM, and Satyendar Jain, former PWD Minister... the scam is of over Rs 2,000 crore. The classrooms were semi-permanent structures, and the cost estimate was around Rs 24,00,000 per classroom, which was more than the prevalent market rate back then," Chauhan stated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em Sabará (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo "There was a considerable cost escalation by the time projects were completed. The complaint details irregularities in constructing approximately 12,748 classrooms at a reported cost of Rs 2,892 crore. The awarded tenders showed a cost of Rs 24.86 lakh per classroom, despite similar structures typically costing around Rs five lakh in Delhi. The project allegedly involved 34 contractors, with most having reported connections to the AAP. ACB chief Madhur Verma noted that during verification, it was discovered that the Expenditure Finance Committee had determined in its 2015-16 meetings that the project should be completed by June 2016 within the sanctioned cost, without allowance for future cost escalations.
