Third man appears in court after 'machete murder bid' on Mark Richardson associate

Anthony Brown was arrested and charged after officers executed a warrant in Blantyre at around 9.45am on Friday, July 4.
A third man has appeared in court following the alleged "attempted murder" of one of Mark Richardson's top associates.
Anthony Brown, 49, was arrested and charged after officers executed a warrant in Blantyre at around 9.45am on Friday, July 4. It came after David McMillan, 54, was allegedly attacked with machetes outside his house on Pitcairn Grove in Edinburgh on Thursday, May 22.
Brown appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder and being in possession of a blade.
He made no plea, was committed for further examination and remanded in custody to appear again at the court within eight days.
Two men have already appeared in court over the incident. Arran Reid, 26, and Joshua Stewart, 20, made their first appearance at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Tuesday, June 17.
Reid was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset, possession of blade, attempt to defeat ends of justice, possession of firearm and ammunition.
Stewart was charged with assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, attempted murder, reset and attempt to defeat the ends of justice. Both made no plea and were remanded in custody.
Police Scotland also confirmed on Friday that they had made a further arrest in connection with Operation Portaledge, the investigation into gang-related incidents in the East and West of the country, bringing the total number to 52.
Officers also arrested a 22-year-old man on Thursday, July 3, in connection with wilful fire-raising to two vehicles on Campion Road and Niddrie Marischal Crescent in Edinburgh on June 9. He was released pending further enquiries.
Police launched a probe after a Transit van was targeted on Niddrie Marischal Crescent in the capital. Minutes prior, a Range Rover was torched outside another home on nearby Campion Road.
This is the second arrest in connection with this incident. A 17-year-old was also arrested and charged in connection with the incidents last week. He was released on an undertaking and is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court at a later date.
Dubai-based gangster Ross McGill's faceless and frightening enforcers Tamo Junto (TMJ), claimed responsibility for the attacks in a video shared shortly after the attacks.
The footage showed flames bursting out of the Range Rover and the Ford Transit van. In one clip a hooded figure can be seen standing with an accelerant canister before he backs away from the fireball.
The video played the song Two Tribes by 80s pop group Frankie Goes to Hollywood and ended with emojis of a black pawn chess piece and a sand timer appearing side by side.
The Transit van was blown up at a home linked to Richardson's pal Paddy Beatson, on Niddrie Marischal Crescent which had been attacked twice previously in recent months.
The attacks are part of a series of violent incidents across Scotland after a major turf war kicked off in March. The ongoing feud was sparked after Richardson's men bought £500k of cocaine from McGill with fake cash.

'We apologise': Latest on Glasgow City Council's cyber attack

The local authority's ICT supplier CGI discovered malicious activity on servers managed by a third-party early in the morning of June 19. Glasgow City Council is working with Police Scotland, the Scottish Cyber Co-ordination Centre, the National Cyber Security Centre and security experts brought in by CGI to investigate the attack. It is understood forensic work has now been completed and the council is waiting on the analysis. Some services are now being brought back online — with public access planning going live again today (Monday), allowing people to view and comment on planning applications. A temporary workaround was introduced last week. Other services to go back online include pensions and Freedom of Information requests. A council spokesman said: 'We are working to safely relocate and reinstate online services that were taken offline — with public access to planning applications coming back online today. 'We apologise for the inconvenience caused.' No evidence of data loss as a result of the attack has been discovered, although the council continues to work on the assumption that there is a risk that data has been compromised until the investigation is complete. Following the attack, the servers where the malicious activity was discovered were isolated to protect the wider network. However, taking them offline disrupted a number of day-to-day digital services.

Police warn against sharing ‘misinformation' over death of Dundee scientist

Police Scotland have urged the public to avoid sharing 'misinformation' following the death of a scientist in Dundee at the weekend. Dr Fortune Gomo, 39, a mother who worked for Scottish Water, was allegedly attacked in Dundee just before 4.30pm on Saturday. Detectives say they recognise the 'shock' in the local community and improving safety for women and girls is a 'priority'. Dr Gomo died at the scene of the incident despite attempts to save her. On Monday, Kyler Rattray, 20, appeared in private at Dundee Sheriff Court, facing a single charge of murder. No plea was entered and he was remanded in custody. Chief Superintendent Nicola Russell, Dundee local police commander, said detectives were 'confident that nobody else was involved and there is no wider threat to the public'. She said senior officers had met with community leaders 'to provide reassurance and support', and that the murder had 'caused shock' in the city, urging the public not to share 'misinformation' on social media or to prejudice the court case. Ms Russell said: 'The death of Fortune Gomo has caused shock in Dundee. ' Police Scotland is committed to having safer communities and senior officers have met with representatives from the local community to provide reassurance and support during this incredibly difficult time. 'Fortune's family and friends, who are being supported by specialist officers, are very much in our thoughts today, as is the wider community. 'A 20-year-old man was arrested shortly after this incident and has been charged in connection with Fortune's death. 'He appeared at Dundee Sheriff Court today and has been remanded in custody. 'Given that legal proceedings are now under way I am very limited in what I can say regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident, particularly any motive. 'Our inquiries are continuing and we are confident that nobody else was involved and there is no wider threat to the public. 'Working with partners to tackle violence and make Scotland's communities safe for all women and girls is a priority for Police Scotland. 'I am also acutely aware of misinformation being shared on social media and would urge the public not to speculate on the circumstances or post anything which could compromise a future court case and bring further distress to Fortune's family. 'We have increased our patrols in the area so you will see more officers out on the streets of Dundee. I would encourage anyone with any concerns at all to speak with those officers. 'I would also like to ask anyone who was in the South Road area of Dundee around 4.25pm on Saturday and who may have information to please come forward. You can contact us by calling 101 and quote incident number 2283 of July 5 2025. 'Information can also be given to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.'

She had previously been jailed after stealing £48,000 from the council she worked for. Kathryn MacDonald, 44, was employed as a manager at B Fit Personal Training Club in Cardiff when she committed the fraud. Customers of the gym were required to make card payments in order to pay for memberships but the defendant asked three victims to pay via cash. ‌ A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Monday heard MacDonald paid only a small amount of money to the Roath-based gym, and kept the rest for herself. For the latest court reports sign up to our crime newsletter. ‌ The first victim paid £2,400 but the defendant only paid £252 of that to the gym. The second victim paid £1,207 but MacDonald paid the gym £200 of that amount. The third victim, a friend of the defendant, paid £2,245 but only £194 was paid to the gym. Article continues below As a result, prosecutor Paul Hewitt said MacDonald benefited by £5,825 through the fraud, which was carried out between August 2022 and November 2023. Her actions came to light after discrepancies were noticed in the financial accounts of the gym, and following investigation the defendant was sacked for gross misconduct. It was said the reputation of B Fit Personal Training Club had suffered as a result of the fraud, as well as suffering a large financial loss. ‌ In a victim personal statement, one of the defendant's victims said she felt "used and manipulated" by MacDonald who she considered a friend, and she now "questions everybody's motives" when meeting them. MacDonald, of Traston Road, Newport, later pleaded guilty to theft by an employee and four counts of fraud by false representation. The court heard the defendant has relevant previous convictions, after she committed fraud by false representation against her former employer Vale of Glamorgan council after she stole £48,000 through putting her bank account details on council tax payments. ‌ She was sentenced to 18-months imprisonment as a result of this conviction. In mitigation, Jac Brown said his client had a long-standing gambling addiction, but since committing the latest fraud she has repaid £3,840 and has offered to pay £300 a month towards the remaining sum. The barrister said the defendant has found new employment but her health has deteriorated due to receiving preventative cancer surgery. She is also concerned about being sent to prison, having previously worked as a prison officer at HMP Eastwood Park. Article continues below Sentencing, Judge Celia Hughes said: "This was an appalling way to behave to your employer. This was a small business trying to make a living by running a gym. The loss has had a substantial effect." MacDonald was sentenced to 14 months imprisonment.
