Why Malik Nabers could surprise and be fantasy WR1 in 2025

Yahoo Fantasy's Matt Harmon and contributor Ray Garvin explain why a new quarterback could catapult the Giants' receiver into a fantasy superstar. Hear the full conversation on the 'Yahoo Fantasy Forecast' podcast - and subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or wherever you listen. View more Video Transcript I am going to say Malik Neighbors is a year 2 wide receiver out of New York. Malik Neighbors is the guy. If, if, if for me, if I'm going to put somebody in that upper echelon, in that tier, and I know that a lot of people sit back and say, it's just Russell Wilson, he is 100 times better than the quarterback room that was in New York last year, and you're talking about a rookie season with 155 targets, almost 1300 yards and 12 touchdowns, and 8 touchdowns, and they've done little to nothing to improve that wide receiver core. The thing that has improved is the quarterback play. When I'm looking at, as far as usage amongst their team, there was no player in the NFL who was utilized more from a percentage basis on their offense than Malik Neighbors as a rookie. This kid was trying to figure it out on the fly with Danny Devito, with, with Daniel Jones, with the, just a, a misfit cast of quarterbacks. And now you do get a quarterback who's got tons of NFL experience. He's a former Super Bowl champ. Russell Wilson for Malik Neighbors is going to do wonders. His opportunity in this offense, it's Malik Neighbors and nobody else. And if they get more out of their ground game to help the play action out, the sky is the absolute limit for Malik Neighbors, how he was utilized in this offense, by wide receiver 3 going into 2025. I, I love it. It's a, it's a bold and yet not bold in a way because he is talented enough to get there. There's no question about it. So, last two seasons, Ray, the guys who have had 30% of their team's targets. In 2023, it was Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill, and AJ Brown, uh, actually, if you go back to the 2022 season, some very, some of the same names there, Davante Adams again with the Raiders did it, Tyreek Hill did it with the Miami Dolphins. Malik Neighbors did it last year. So from in terms of like team targets here, he's already in that like, not just alpha range, but I don't know, whatever the, the super alpha tier is. And in addition to the role, like some of the stuff from a target perspective, he already got that kind of like role catering that I'm talking about in terms of the guys that were our elite players in the position where they're not just out there running ISO routes; he only took 57.1% of the routes or snaps I charted him for on the line of scrimmage. The Giants did a ton of role catering for him, and this is a guy that could just go out there and run X receiver every single snap, but the team is smart, at least in this one thing, and they don't ask him to do it.
