After ChatGPT, Perplexity now has a $200 month subscription plan: Here's what you get

Indian Express03-07-2025
Following in ChatGPT maker OpenAI's footsteps, Perplexity has launched its very own $200 monthly subscription plan. Called Perplexity Max, the AI startup says it ïs their most advanced subscription tier to date. In a blog post, Perplexity said that the new $200 subscription is for those who 'demand limitless AI productivity and immediate access to the newest products and features.'
As part of the company's most expensive tier, you get unlimited access to Labs, the company's newest tool that aims to enhance user productivity. Introduced earlier this year, Perplexity says 'using Labs is like having a team' and that users can create spreadsheets, web apps, and dashboards by performing 10 minutes or more of 'self-supervised work' using a wide range of tools like deep web browsing, code execution, and chart and image creation.
The $200 Perplexity Max plan also includes access to advanced AI models like OpenAI's o3-pro and Anthropic's Claude Opus 4. Subscribers also get priority support as part of the new plan. It also offers early access to Perplexity features and products like Comet, the company's upcoming Chromium-based agentic web browser that can also help automate certain tasks.
Perplexity says the Max subscription is designed for professionals, content creators, business strategists and academic researchers. The company is also planning to launch an enterprise version of the Max plan. Pereplexity Max is currently available on the web and iOS, but there is no news on when it will be coming to Android.
Apart from the new subscription plan, Perplexity also offers a Pro plan, which, like ChatGPT, is priced at $20 a month alongside an Enterprise Pro plan that costs $40 per month.
Last month, the company introduced a new AI-powered video generation feature that allows users to create videos on X. Recently, rumour had it that both Apple and Meta were interested in buying the startup to get an edge in the AI race.

Google Preferred Sources: How To Choose Which News Comes To Your Screen

Google News is used by millions and the new Preferred sources is helping them personalise the content they read. Google News is a popular app among users who can catch up on the latest headlines and updates across politics, sports, and more. The company has made changes to its curation lists over the years and for the first time Google has offered you an easier way to see news and updates from the sources that you prefer. Preferred Sources, as Google calls it, is available in the US and India allowing you to stay up-to-date with the favourite blogs and news sites that you regularly follow or even subscribe to. This is a new form of personalisation which ensures that you don't see content from other sources that can be irrelevant also. Using the new preferred sources option in Google for news and updates is quite easy and you just have to enable the tool, select the source websites and apply the changes. Google has not put a limit on the number of preferred sources you can add, and this was picked up from its learnings with the early set of Labs users that people really valued. The company is also giving publishers the access to connect with more users and make them choose their preferred sources, which in turn affects their visibility and readership for the platform. In addition to this, Google's Gemini AI recently got two new updates that have been shared with the users. You get the new temporary chats in Gemini which works like Chrome incognito mode and does not store the chats or use it for training the AI models. You also get better ways to control how Gemini uses files like photos, videos and more. view comments First Published: August 19, 2025, 11:21 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. OpenAI offers ChatGPT Go subscription in India for Rs. 399

OpenAI has announced a new subscription plan for Indian users called ChatGPT Go. The Rs. 399 plan will give users extended access to GPT-5, and the ability to generate more images and analyse more documents and files. Nick Turley, head of ChatGPT, made the announcement on X saying, Go subscribers will get '10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with our free tier.' A blog posted by OpenAI noted that these limits could vary based on system conditions to 'ensure a smooth experience for all users.' Starting today, users can subscribe to the plan by logging into ChatGPT, clicking on the profile icon and selecting 'Upgrade Plan.' They can then select the 'Go Plan' and pay via UPI or credit card. Turley said that their goal had always been to make ChatGPT 'more affordable' as it has been a 'key ask from users.' OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has said on multiple occasions that India is a vital market for them. During his India tour in February earlier this year, he noted that the country was the second-biggest market for ChatGPT with user base having tripled over the last year. Meanwhile, Aravind Srinivas-led Perplexity AI has been steadily gaining ground here having partnered with Airtel to offer a free 12-month Perplexity Pro subscription. This gives 360 million Airtel subscribers access to Perplexity's chatbot. OpenAI has said that the Go subscription will be expanded to other regions eventually.
