Complete beautification works at Tirupati's water tanks: Collector
Speaking at a review meeting held on Monday at the Collector's chamber, the Collector, along with Joint Collector Shubham Bansal, Trainee Collector Sandeep Raghu Vanshi, DWMA PD Srinivasa Prasad, and other officials, assessed the progress of various tank restoration works.
The Collector stressed that the beautification of tanks is crucial for water conservation and rejuvenation. He called for the swift completion of pending works, particularly at Daminedu, Peruru, Avilala Ramakka Cheruvu, Thukivaka Venkatapuram, Velamandyam Vinayaka Sagar, Pan Cheruvu, Gollavani Gunta, and Koramenugunta tanks.
Highlighting progress under the Smart City initiative, Dr Venkateswar noted that development works at Vinayaka Sagar and Gollavani Gunta tanks have already been completed. He instructed officials to prepare detailed plans for the remaining tanks. Special focus was given to Koramenugunta tank, where walking tracks and plantation works are to be completed at the earliest.
Irrigation SE Venkata Prasad, TUDA SE Krishna Reddy, EE Ravindranath, and DPO Suseela Devi and others attended the meeting.

354th Aradhana Mahotsava under way at Mantralayam
The 354th Aradhana Mahotsava of Sri Raghavendra Swamy temple at Mantralayam in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh began on Friday and the annual rituals will continue till August 14. On the third day of the event on Sunday, Peethadhipathi of Sri Raghavendra Temple Sri Subudhendra Tirtha received Sesha Vastram in a grand procession and dedicated it at Moola Brindavan of Sri Raghavendra Swamy. Priests of Sri Ranganatha Temple in Sri Rangam of Tamil Nadu brought the Sesha Vastram and handed it over to the Peethadhipathi as part of the annual rituals. As part of the annual Aradhana Mahotsava of Sri Raghavendra Swamy, Sesha Vastrams from Tirumala Tirupati, Ahobilam and Kanchi are arriving, apart from Sri Rangam. 'The temple has been following this age-old tradition and dedicating such Sesha Vastrams to Moola Brindavan during the Aradhana,' the swamiji said. Judge of the High Court of Karnataka Srishananda and Minister for Irrigation N.S. Boseraju were present. Hundreds of devotees from various parts of India participated in the event.

LED display boards in city defunct
Bhubaneswar: LED display boards installed across the city by different agencies and departments, intended to provide crucial information on a wide range of topics, such as water supply status and pollution level, have become defunct, allegedly due to a lack of repair and maintenance by authorities concerned. The LED boards, installed by entities, including the housing and urban development department, Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO), Odisha State Pollution Control Board, the Smart City authorities and the commissionerate police, are strategically placed in key parts of the city. They serve a vital role in disseminating real-time information to the public. At several city junctions, these digital boards are designed to offer general information about the city, while others, located in strategic areas, provide updates on air pollution levels. Boards installed by the commissionerate police offer insights into police services and those by WATCO detail the water supply status across the city's 115 urban local bodies. "This is sheer negligence by the authorities. They spent lakhs of public money on the installation of these boards. They should take responsibility for maintaining them. This is not smart governance by a smart city of India. The authorities should initiate the restoration work of the smart properties soon," Jagannath Hota, a resident of Acharya Vihar, said. In response to these concerns, city mayor Sulochana Das assured that the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited is taking steps to address the issue and is in the process of selecting an expert agency. "We have decided to maintain these digital properties with the help of an agency and have recently floated a tender to finalise the process," she added. Das further said that the agency will be appointed soon to undertake the regular repair and maintenance work of these properties. "We will discuss with the other agencies that installed the boards and highlight the matter with them. Things will be resolved soon," she added. Girder launching work of Thane's Kopri railway flyover completed
The installation of girders for the Kopri railway flyover, a key connector between Thane East and Thane West, undertaken by the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) was completed this week, as part of the ongoing Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme (SATIS) project under the Smart City initiative, officials said on Friday. The critical work on the important stretch over the railway track, which had been pending for almost a year, involved the placement of heavy girders across tracks and was executed using special mega railway blocks. The girder launching work began on July 26 and was completed over multiple nights. To set the stage ready for work, the traffic police set in place vehicle diversions to and from Thane East for eight days, even before the girder installation work began. 'That night, two girders weighing approximately 100 tonnes were lifted and placed across the railway lines. On July 27, another girder weighing 50 tonnes was installed. The final two girders, both weighing 100 tonnes, were launched late on the night of July 29 and successfully installed by early morning on July 30,' a Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) officer associated with the project said on Friday. Traffic on the Kopri flyover was diverted to allow for the safe movement of cranes and equipment. 'A team of 18 engineers and 40 workers carried out the nighttime operations,' the officer added. With the main phase of work now done, traffic congestion in the Kopri area is expected to reduce. The remaining construction work will continue until August 4 without further traffic diversions, officials said. With the railway section of the work now complete, the rest of the project is expected to gain momentum. The remaining phases will be carried out during night shifts until August 4, with traffic halts on the Kopri flyover, said the officer. The project is part of TMC's effort to improve connectivity and decongest the area around the station. The planning and execution of the girder installation was led by Additional Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Malvi, Deputy City Engineer Sudhir Gaikwad, and Executive Engineer Dhananjay Mode.
