FM asserts Egypt's commitment to strengthening cooperation with NATO
He proposed expanding tripartite cooperation in Africa to combat terrorism and organized crime, according to a press release here Thursday.
During a meeting with the NATO Council in Brussels, Abdelatty briefed members on Egypt's efforts to end the Israeli assault on Gaza and achieve a ceasefire.
He strongly condemned Israel's violations against civilians and rejected collective punishment and forced displacement of Palestinians.
On Syria, he reaffirmed Egypt's support for Syrian sovereignty and the need for an inclusive political process to ensure stability.
Regarding Libya, he reiterated Egypt's position on preserving Libya's unity and sovereignty, supporting legitimate institutions, unifying executive and security bodies, disbanding militias, and ensuring the withdrawal of all foreign forces and mercenaries

He added that Egypt's balanced approach in international diplomacy has played a critical role in regional stability. 'If not for Egypt's firm and steady positions, one can only imagine how much worse the situation could be,' he stated. Egypt has officially amended its natural gas import agreement with NewMed Energy, significantly expanding both the volume and duration of gas imports from Israel's Leviathan field, in a deal expected to generate $35 billion in revenues, according to a statement from NewMed. The revised deal increases the total contracted volume by 130 billion cubic meters (bcm) and extends the supply period through to 2040, reinforcing Egypt's role as a regional energy hub and meeting its growing domestic demand for natural gas. According to the NewMed Energy disclosure to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the gas supply boost will be implemented in two phases: Phase one, which takes effect immediately, increases the current supply from 450 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 650 mmcfd, translating to an additional 20 bcm. Phase two involves an additional 110 bcm, contingent on future investments to expand production at the Leviathan gas field, as well as the signing of a new transportation agreement to deliver gas via the Nitzana pipeline. This would raise daily deliveries to between 1.15 and 1.25 billion cubic feet. Strategic Partnership and Field Ownership The Leviathan gas field is operated by a consortium that includes: NewMed Energy – 45.34%, Chevron (U.S.) – 39.66%, Ratio Energies – 15%. Arab, global backlash follows Netanyahu's ‘Greater Israel' remarks amid escalating Gaza war
Arab and international condemnation intensified on Wednesday over Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks linking himself to what he called the 'Greater Israel vision,' as fighting in Gaza escalated and the death toll continued to rise amid warnings of a deepening humanitarian catastrophe. The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Netanyahu's comments as a 'dangerous provocative escalation,' a threat to state sovereignty, and a violation of international law and the UN Charter. The ministry also reported eight new famine-related deaths—including three children—in the past day, bringing the total from hunger and malnutrition to 235, including 106 children. Palestinian media said seven people were killed and 20 wounded when Israeli aircraft targeted aid security personnel in northern Gaza. Meanwhile, the Associated Press cited sources claiming Israel was in talks with South Sudan to take in Palestinians from Gaza as part of a broader Israeli-U.S. displacement plan. The South Sudanese government denied the report as baseless. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon sharply criticised Netanyahu, saying he had 'lost his mind' and condemning annexation, forced displacement, and the Gaza blockade as 'utterly appalling' and 'completely unacceptable.' Abdelatty's remarks that nothing precluded the deployment of international forces in Gaza—echoed by French President Emmanuel Macron's proposal for a UN-mandated coalition—rekindled debate over postwar governance of the enclave, including a possible Palestinian Authority return and prospects for a broader political settlement. Meanwhile, a Hamas delegation arrived in Cairo for talks with Egyptian officials on the war and developments in the West Bank, Jerusalem, and Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli Channel 12 reported that Tel Aviv was considering sending a senior delegation to Doha later this week to negotiate a comprehensive agreement covering all issues, rather than a partial deal.
