NEW DELHI: The Centre has prioritised the construction of three new metro rail corridors - R K Ashram to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Terminal-1 and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj - in Delhi, entailing an investment of around Rs 11,150 crore and having a cumulative length of a little over 16 km.
These links were recently evaluated by the National Planning Group (NPG) under the PM GatiShakti framework for planning of infrastructure projects and are likely to be placed before the Cabinet soon for approval.
Details of the plans presented before the NPG show that R K Ashram to Indraprastha will be the longest among the three corridors and it will be an underground route with nine stations - at Indraprastha, Bharat Mandapam, Baroda House, India Gate (adjacent to C-Hexagon), the newly built Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings along the Kartavya Path, Central Secretariat, Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum (near Rakabganj Gurdwara), Shivaji Stadium and R K Ashram Marg.
"So, this will be a complete loop connecting the Green Line (Indralok-Indraprastha link) with the Blue Line, and the Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor. This will also help reduce footfall at Rajiv Chowk," said a source. The proposed station at India Gate will offer visitors a safe and convenient transport alternative, and reduce reliance on private vehicles, officials said.
At present, the nearest metro connectivity is the Central Secretariat metro station and people either need to walk or take auto-rickshaws to reach India Gate.
The corridor will also provide faster connectivity to the proposed 10 big central govt office buildings along the Kartavya Path. Two stations on this line at the CCS buildings and the Central Secretariat will ensure govt employees reach office quickly and without any hassle.
Earlier, there was a proposal to have an automated people mover system (APMS) to link all the CCS buildings to basements, but it was abandoned as such a transportation system would have been used only by the govt employees.
Officials said the extension of the metro line from Aerocity to Terminal-1 (2.3 km) will be completely underground and it will have only one station at Terminal-1. This will provide direct airport connectivity to people living in areas such as Tughlakabad, Khanpur, Saket, Mehrauli and Vasant Kunj. This will enhance airport access and regional transit, especially for commuters from Faridabad via the Tughlakabad interchange.
The Tughlakabad-Kalindi Kunj link (4 km) will have three stations and it will be an elevated corridor. It will pass through Ali Village, Ali Vihar, and Madanpur Khadar. The new link will facilitate interchange at Kalindi Kunj with the existing Magenta Line, linking the Violet and Magenta corridors.

SC declines urgent listing of Tamil Nadu's suit for Rs 2,291 crore education funds
New Delhi, June 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday declined to urgently list a suit filed by the Tamil Nadu government against the Union Government, seeking the release of over Rs 2,291 crore under the Samagra Shiksha Scheme (SSS). A bench comprising Justices Prashant Kumar Mishra and Manmohan rejected the plea for early listing during the court's partial working days, observing that there was "no urgency" in the matter. Senior Advocate P. Wilson, representing the Tamil Nadu government, pressed for an urgent hearing, arguing that nearly 48 lakh students in the state were being deprived of essential education funds. 'All students in Tamil Nadu are being denied their right to education funds by the central government. The new academic year began on June 3, and admissions are underway,' Wilson submitted. When Justice Mishra enquired when the funds had stopped, Wilson responded that the funds had not been released since last year and that the original suit was filed on May 20, 2025. Despite this, the bench declined the urgent listing request. Tamil Nadu has approached the Supreme Court under Article 131 of the Constitution, accusing the Centre of unlawfully withholding funds under the SSS. The state contends that the denial is tied to its non-implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the PM SHRI (Schools for Rising India) scheme. In its suit, Tamil Nadu seeks a direction for the Union Government to release the pending Rs 2,291 crore along with applicable interest. The state also seeks a declaration that making the release of SSS funds contingent upon the adoption of NEP 2020 and the PM SHRI scheme is 'unconstitutional, illegal, unreasonable, and arbitrary. Solar body urges govt to extend transmission fee waiver for delayed projects
The National Solar Energy Federation of India ( NSEFI ) has urged the government to protect the viability of numerous renewable energy projects facing risks from delays beyond the control of developers, according to a person familiar with the matter. In the letter to the advisor to the Prime Minister's Office, the federation urged that the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) charges waiver be extended to projects getting commissioned by June 2026 and meeting a specific criterion relating to connectivity application status, financial closure, land acquisition beyond the 50 per cent threshold, and if orders for equipment have been made. The federation, representing a broad spectrum of stakeholders across the solar value chain, stated that while the ISTS waiver, originally announced by the Ministry of Power (MoP), has played a "pivotal role in making renewable power more competitive", its delayed implementation by the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) in February 2023 left many developers in a limbo. They are imposed to cover the costs relating to building and maintaining transmission lines and other infrastructure required for interstate electricity transfer. According to an energy expert, industry estimates state that renewable energy projects of nearly Rs 5 lakh crore would be impacted if the waiver of ISTS charges is not extended. Live Events "Several RE developers made early investments, securing land, achieving financial closure, and signing definitive agreements based on the original MoP notification," the federation said. However, due to aspects like the nearly two-year lag in CERC's ratification and other uncontrollable factors, these developers are now at risk of missing the commissioning deadline of June 30, 2025, making them ineligible for the waiver. The federation flagged multiple aspects, including prolonged approvals under Section 68(1) of the Electricity Act due to an ongoing Supreme Court case on Great Indian Bustard conservation, delay in transmission planning and connectivity effectiveness, and delayed commissioning of critical transmission infrastructure. "Several developers applied for ISTS connectivity well before June 2023, in line with the ISTS waiver policy timelines. However, the effectiveness dates for granted connectivity are being issued much later, often in 2026 or 2027, due to delays in transmission system planning and execution," the federation said. The federation has proposed a milestone-based eligibility framework for the waiver. It has recommended that projects that had applied for transmission connectivity on or before June 30, 2023, achieved financial closure, acquired at least 50 per cent of the land required for their development, and placed orders for wind turbine generators and/or inverters must be considered for the purpose of availing the ISTS waiver. It argued that the approach is consistent with CERC's regulations and recent Ministry of Power notifications granting waiver flexibility to pumped storage and battery storage projects. "The proposed eligibility criteria will ensure that only serious and committed renewable energy developers, who had factored the ISTS waiver into their project design and commercial commitments, benefit from this extension," the federation said.
