Tyson Bagent signs two year extension as Chicago Bears lock in backup quarterback until 2027
Tyson Bagent signed a two-year contract extension with the Chicago Bears on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Lake Forest, Illinois. The deal keeps him with the team through the 2027 season.
The Bears did not release formal financial figures. But his agents told NFL Network the contract is worth $10 million and could reach $16 million if he hits incentive goals. General Manager Ryan Poles said, 'We are fortunate to ensure that Tyson remains a member of the Chicago Bears. He is one of the hardest workers on our team and in addition to being a great competitor and teammate, he is a catalyst for positive influence throughout our entire organization.'
Tyson Bagent signs two year extension with Chicago Bears
Tyson Jacob Bagent, 25, came to the Bears in 2023 as an undrafted player from Shepherd University. In the 2023 season, he played in five games and started four of them. He completed 65.7 percent of his passes for 859 yards. He threw three touchdowns and six interceptions.
Last season, he saw limited play as a backup. He entered four games off the bench and completed two passes, for a total of 11 yards.
GM Ryan Poles praised him again during the announcement when he said Bagent is 'one of the hardest workers on our team' and called him a 'catalyst for positive influence' across the Bears organization.

Chicago Bears keep quarterback depth behind Caleb Williams
Tyson Bagent will back up rookie starter Caleb Williams for at least three more seasons. Williams was the first pick of the 2024 draft and began as starter that year.
The Bears value having a reliable backup ready if Williams gets hurt. That stability matters. As Ryan Poles said, keeping Bagent means the team isn't 'one quarterback injury away from a lost season.'
His agents confirmed the deal's worth with a base of $10 million and the chance to reach $16 million with incentives.

Easton Cowan tipped as perfect future linemate for Auston Matthews by NHL analyst
Toronto Maple Leafs see promise in Easton Cowan (Image via OHL Images) The Toronto Maple Leafs have high hopes for their young prospect Easton Cowan, and some analysts believe he may one day be a perfect fit on the team's top line. NHL analyst Steven Ellis recently shared his thoughts on Cowan's future, suggesting that his skillset and playing style could make him a strong complement to franchise center Auston Matthews. Easton Cowan's ceiling and potential top-line fit with Auston Matthews Speaking on The Leafs Nation (Aug. 20), Steven Ellis said Cowan has the tools to become more than just a depth piece. 'I think like a safe bet as a middle six winger. I think he could play on the top line, like you could put him on that right side if Maccelli doesn't work out in the long run, and he's going to be able to handle playing with quality players,' Ellis explained. Ellis praised Cowan's competitiveness, especially given his success with the London Knights in the OHL despite a less impactful showing at the World Junior Championships. 'He's going out there winning so many battles. He's only five foot 11, but he plays more like he's six foot two in the way that he goes out there and retrieves the pucks,' Ellis added. Is Easton Cowan READY for the Next Step with the Maple Leafs? Easton Cowan focused on growth as Maple Leafs weigh next steps At just 20 years old, Cowan understands the importance of development and consistency. In a July interview with NHL .com, he acknowledged the uncertainty of where he'll play next season — whether with the Maple Leafs or their AHL affiliate, the Marlies. 'I guess I know where I'll be living this year, but… you just have to have that mindset of getting better each and every day,' Cowan said. Toronto will give him a chance to showcase his game in training camp, but the franchise isn't rushing him. For now, Cowan remains determined: 'I have a chance to get a job, so that's up to me to go out there and show what I can do and play my game.' Why was a potential assassination attempt on Andy Reid in 2024 swept under the rug by the NFL?
Andy Reid faced a harrowing experience when gunfire struck the Chiefs' training facility (Getty Images) Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has built a reputation as one of the NFL's most composed leaders on the sideline. But according to a new report, Reid faced a life-threatening scare last year that went largely unnoticed by both fans and much of the organization. A late-night shooting leaves Andy Reid just feet away from danger On May 4, 2024, Reid was reportedly working late at the Chiefs' training facility when gunfire struck the building. According to The Kansas City Star, a bullet pierced the glass of his second-floor office window, cut through blinds, and lodged into a wall between his office door and private bathroom. At the time, Reid was seated just 15 feet away. The situation could have been far worse. Police confirmed that two additional bullets also struck the facility — one on the third floor and another on an outdoor air conditioning unit. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the Kansas City Police Department classified the case as an aggravated assault. Authorities emphasized there was 'no indication' the shots were specifically targeted at Reid or the Chiefs. A well-kept secret inside the Chiefs' building Perhaps most surprising is that the incident remained largely unknown until now. The report notes it was such a 'well-kept secret' that many Chiefs players and even some staff members only learned about it this week. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like What Happens When You Massage Baking Soda Into Your Scalp Read More Undo In the aftermath, the team took extra precautions, reinforcing Reid's office with bulletproof glass. Since taking over in 2013, he has led the Chiefs to three Super Bowl titles and turned the franchise into a modern dynasty.
