Har Ghar Tiranga yatra celebrated with patriotic fervour
Telangana BJP President N. Ramchander Rao led the yatra at two prominent locations—Necklace Road and JNTU Kukatpally. The event witnessed participation from party leaders, workers, students, and citizens, all united in a display of patriotic spirit.
Addressing the gathering at Necklace Road, Rao stated that while the yatra is officially organised in BJP-ruled states, in Telangana, people—especially students—are voluntarily joining the initiative. He announced that the national flag would be hoisted on 40 lakh homes across the state, describing it as a powerful symbol of unity, dignity, and national pride.
Rao emphasized that the yatra, launched under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is instilling a deep sense of patriotism in every Indian. He noted that the campaign commemorates the 79th Independence Day and pays tribute to the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and visionary leaders who secured India's independence.
In a sharp political statement, Rao accused the Congress party of having supported British and Pakistani interests during the partition of India, which he claimed led to the plundering of the nation's wealth. He urged participants to pledge their commitment to safeguarding India's unity, integrity, and cultural heritage.
The yatra in Hyderabad proceeded from Necklace Road to the B.R. Ambedkar statue near the Secretariat, while in Kukatpally, it moved from JNTU to the HUDA Truck Park. Despite the festive atmosphere, Rao revealed that he had been placed under house arrest by the police on August 12, allegedly to prevent his participation in the event.
The BJP's Har Ghar Tiranga campaign has gained momentum across Telangana, with citizens actively engaging in flag-hoisting ceremonies and public marches. The initiative aims to foster a collective sense of national pride and reinforce the values of democracy and unity.

'It seems that some political parties and their Booth Level Agents (BLAs) did not examine the electoral rolls at the appropriate time and did not point out errors, if any, to SDMs/EROs, DEOs or CEOs,' the commission said in a statement on Saturday, referring to a process that occurs yearly. The poll body said parties are now raising concerns outside the designated process. 'Recently, some political parties and individuals are raising issues about errors in electoral rolls, including the electoral rolls prepared in the past,' it said. The commission said there was a proper procedure for addressing electoral roll concerns. 'The appropriate time to raise any issue with the electoral rolls would have been during the claims and objections period of that phase, which is precisely the objective behind sharing the electoral rolls with all political parties and the candidates,' it stated. 'Had these issues been raised at the right time through the right channels, it would have enabled the concerned SDM/EROs to correct the mistakes, if genuine, before those elections,' the commission added. Typically, every year, electoral rolls undergo summary revision with a qualifying date of January 1, when citizens turning 18 become eligible voters. During this process, draft rolls are published, followed by a claims and objections period lasting several weeks where political parties and voters can challenge inclusions or exclusions. The final rolls are then published by January 31, giving parties multiple opportunities annually to scrutinise and correct electoral data through established legal channels. It is likely these draft rolls that the EC was referring to, but did not specify in its statement on Saturday. The poll body will hold a press conference on Sunday featuring Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and both Election Commissioners, though officials have not specified the subject. People aware of the details said the commission will discuss 'recent issues and allegations' regarding the Bihar verification drive. Officials aware of the matter told HT that the presser is a response to the Opposition's concerns on SIR especially the Congress's. Gandhi has alleged 'vote chori (vote theft)' in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Haryana, accusing the poll panel of voter data manipulation. On August 7, he claimed there were 100,250 'stolen' votes in Bangalore Central's Mahadevapura assembly segment that helped the BJP win the 2024 Lok Sabha seat, accusing the commission of 'colluding' with the ruling party. The presentation prompted an immediate reaction from the commission, which asked Gandhi to send a signed declaration and oath supporting his allegations. Commission officials have since urged Gandhi to either sign the oath or 'apologise' to the nation. The commission said it welcomes scrutiny. 'ECI continues to welcome the scrutiny of Electoral Rolls by Political Parties and any Elector. It will help SDMs/EROs to remove the errors and purify the Electoral Rolls which has always been the objective of ECI,' it stated.

Shukla landed in New Delhi in the early hours of Sunday following his two-week long mission aboard the ISS in June-July. The discussion has been scheduled amid the Opposition's efforts to raise the issue of alleged manipulation of voter lists and the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in poll-bound Bihar. Opposition leaders have sought a discussion over the SIR issue. However, the government has taken a stand that the House cannot take up a discussion on the matter as the case is sub judice in the Supreme Court and relates to Election Commission of India (ECI), an autonomous body, Protests over the same have led to the transaction of limited business in Parliament. 'But, given the nature of the debate on Shukla's journey to the ISS, there is a scope that the Opposition may join the discussion,' a senior Congress leader said on anonymity. In June, Shukla became the second Indian to go to space –– after IAF wing commander Rakesh Sharma –– as part of the Axiom-4 mission to the ISS. He returned to Earth on July 16. Alongside Shukla, the Ax-4 mission marked the return to human spaceflight programme for India, Poland and Hungary in over four decades. Representing the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro), Shukla's return with all the learnings and experience from the Ax-4 mission is an important step for the Gaganyaan mission and setting up the Bharatiya Antariksh Station (the Indian Space Station). In her address to the nation on the eve of the Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu mentioned Shukla's feat and said, 'I am sure that Shubhanshu Shukla's space journey to the International Space Station has fired a whole generation to dream bigger. It will prove extremely helpful for India's upcoming human space flight program, 'Gaganyaan'.' The Department of Space described Shukla's mission as one of 'strategic importance' and India's resolve to emerge as a serious contender in human space exploration. During his address on the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded Shukla's historic visit. 'Every citizen of the country is seeing the wonders of the space sector and is filled with pride. And our Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has returned from the space station. He is also coming to India in a few days. We are also preparing for Aatmanirbhar Bharat Gaganyaan on our own in space. We are working towards building our own space station on our own,' he said.

HC to check AAP plea on Kejriwal's house on Aug 25
New Delhi: Delhi High Court has said it will examine on Aug 25 the plea of Aam Aadmi Party seeking allotment of a residential accommodation to its national convener and former chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, in the national capital. Justice Sachin Datta adjourned the matter for a detailed hearing on the plea, which seeks directions to the central govt to allot accommodation to Kejriwal. The petition contends that under the guidelines for the allotment of accommodation from the general pool to political parties, the president of a recognised national party was entitled to one govt residence in Delhi, provided they neither own a house nor were allotted one in any other official capacity. "All pre-conditions are met. There is a national convener, who is also the national president. We are requesting a centrally located residence," senior advocate Rahul Mehra, representing AAP, submitted earlier. Since then, he has been staying at the official residence of another party member near Mandi House, it added. According to the guidelines, recognised national parties are allowed to secure the allotment of one housing unit from the general pool in Delhi for their office use on the payment of a licence fee. The guidelines also state that one residential accommodation would be allotted to the president of a recognised national party in case he has no house in Delhi, either of his own or allotted by the govt in any other capacity. Last year, AAP was allocated a new office at Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane in Lutyens' Delhi after it approached the high court, which ruled that the party was entitled to a space for its office here like other national parties and asked the BJP-led Centre to take a decision on the issue.
