Cullman man arrested after high-speed chase, foot pursuit in Decatur park
Christopher Wayne Lynn, 39, faces 11 charges including unlawful possession of a controlled substance, third-degree domestic violence, and attempting to elude a police officer. After the arrest, he was transported to Morgan County Jail and held in lieu of a $7,300 bond, according to jail records, and remained in custody as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to the affidavit, a Decatur police officer noticed Lynn driving a silver Volkswagen Gold with no tag and improper headlights.
"Upon initiating a vehicle stop near Corrine Avenue and Austinville Road Southwest, the vehicle continued eastbound before entering the parking lot of 108 14th Street Southwest," the affidavit said. "The vehicle then went off road in between two businesses, breaking through a wooden fence before reentering Austinville Road."
The affidavit said Lynn ran two red lights and reached speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone.
"The pursuit ended with Lynn's vehicle (becoming) disabled at Austinville Park after causing property damage," the affidavit said. "Lynn fled the scene of the accident before being placed under arrest."
The affidavit said after a brief foot chase through Austinville Park, police apprehended Lynn and three bags of synthetic marijuana, or spice, were found near where he wrecked and an additional four bags were found on 14th Street Southwest. The bags weighed a total of 10 grams.
Lynn's 17-year-old son was with him in the vehicle during the police chase and when he wrecked, according to the affidavit.
Lynn in 2019 pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery in connection with an armed robbery of the CVS Pharmacy on Beltline Road, according to court records. He was sentenced to five years in prison followed by five years of probation. His probation was at one time revoked when he allegedly got drunk and assaulted his father and juvenile son at a campground in Tennessee.

Teen seriously injured after being hit by car while riding bike in Lynn
A teenage boy was seriously hurt after he was hit by a car while riding his bike in Lynn on Wednesday. "It was a frightening sound, and I was pretty much ready for the worst when I came out," said John Robert Gardner. That frightening sound woke Gardner from his sleep Wednesday afternoon. The off-duty paramedic was resting before his overnight shift, and then suddenly rendering aid right outside his front door. "I heard an incredibly loud bang and immediately afterwards heard somebody moaning and yelling," he recalled. "Boom! I see the bicycle and said oh my! Screaming! The kid was screaming 'I love you mom!'" said another witness. A sixteen-year-old riding his bike was hit just before 4:30 Wednesday afternoon near Cottage and Woodman streets. Witnesses say he was conscious and talking but had suffered serious injuries to his head. "It was an obvious trauma. He had hit the windshield. It was a significant impact. The bike was thrown a ways. I would estimate his body was thrown about 10 feet," Gardner said. Just a block from Barry Park, parents and neighbors seemed solemn at the sight of that abandoned bicycle in the road. "I feel so bad because I have the kids. When I see the little kid, I said oh my son. He's not my kid but I feel right now, you know?" a mother said. "There needs to be more at this crossing; Blinking lights, something. We're constantly hollering at cars going way too fast down here. It was only a matter of time. Based on what I saw it looks like we got pretty well lucky this time," Gardner said. Investigators are still piecing together the moments leading up to this crash but say the driver did remain on scene.

Theft suspect in jail without bond after missing arraignment
Jul. 3—A Moulton man convicted of first-degree theft of property in 2011 and currently out on bond for allegedly committing the same crime in 2023 was arrested Monday by the Morgan County Sheriff's Office for failing to appear at his June 24 arraignment, according to court records and affidavits. Jail records show Christopher Allen Haynes, 44, was being held without bond at the Morgan County Jail on Wednesday afternoon. Haynes was arrested June 15, 2024, by Decatur police for allegedly stealing a truck from a business in Northwest Decatur the previous year and then wrecking it. "It was later determined that Christopher Allen Haynes was driving the vehicle at the time of the wreck," according to the affidavit. The affidavit identified the truck as a gold 2007 Chevrolet Silverado. A state trooper contacted Haynes, who allegedly admitted to taking the truck but claimed he had permission to use it and had left his own vehicle in the parking lot. However, statements from the truck's owner and video surveillance footage directly contradicted Haynes' claims, according to the affidavit. Court records show Haynes was released from Morgan County Jail on July 3, 2024, after posting a $5,000 bond following his arrest for first-degree theft of property. Haynes was arrested by Priceville police on July 1, 2010, for stealing over $3,800 worth of jewelry from an individual, according to a complaint filed in Morgan County District Court. At the time, he resided in Trinity. Court records show Haynes pleaded guilty to first-degree theft of property on February 7, 2011, and received a 15-year prison sentence. Since his conviction, multiple alias warrants have been issued for his failure to appear in court or comply with court-ordered payments. — or 256-340-2442.
