Amarnath Yatra suspended for 2nd day from Jammu
: The annual Amarnath Yatra remained suspended for the second consecutive day Friday, because of inclement weather, officials said.
No fresh batch of pilgrims was allowed to set out from Jammu via the twin routes — Baltal and Pahalgam — for the holy cave shrine nestled in the Himalayas.
This is the second suspension of this year's annual pilgrimage. Earlier, on July 17, it had been stopped temporarily due to heavy rains at the twin base camps in Kashmir.
This year's Amarnath Yatra commenced on July 3 and will end on Aug 9, on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

Noida man misses train home on Raksha Bandhan, slams cab drivers: netizens say he should have left early on rainy day
Festivals are closely connected to family and loved ones, and living away from family to work in another city comes with emotional challenges. In one such instance, a man from Noida recently shared a post describing how he missed his train, which he had booked to travel home for Raksha Bandhan. Slamming cab service platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido, the man, on Reddit, said he missed his train scheduled for August 9 due to heavy rain, because of which cab drivers kept cancelling his ride requests. 'Today on 9th aug 2025 I had a train from Ghaziabad railway station in the afternoon, woke up early , packed my bag , informed my family i will be coming today , i was so excited to go home and celebrate with them, but when i started booking my ride from ola, uber and rapido , there was no response , tried 15 minutes with all the prices i could but no one picked my ride, it was raining outside, i took my bike and went outside so that might find any auto or uber driver sitting , i did find uber drivers outside but none accepted to come they were all slacking in there cabs,' the post read. He further requested cab drivers to fetch him to the Ghaziabad railway station; however, they refused. 'i requested so much still they were like ' bhaiyaa kal se soya nhi hu mujhe sona hai' and some just nodded 'no' then when 30 min were remaining to catch the train i got an auto driver idle , asked him if he will drop me to the station , he said 'no I won't go just came from there and there is too much traffic given the time frame , there is no way you will reach on time ', So, yes this is what happened with me today. Over population sucks, government not being able to create an infra to handle this population sucks, being away from home in another city to earn a living sucks!' he added. See the post here: Missed my train to home this Rakhi: living in over populated cities sucks byu/Living-Guard4448 innoida The post resonated with several social media users, garnering a range of reactions. 'I feel sorry for you bro, rain has played the spoil sport today in Delhi Ncr . Many areas are waterlogged and so many areas of noida are even facing power cuts, a user wrote. 'This is poor planning on your part. No use blaming the world for your stupidity. It's not like you didn't know it was raining since early morning. You could've left early. But no, you chose to be complacent. Then, you could've spoken to taxi agency rather than these app based services. But no, you were living under a rock and suddenly woke up to reality,' another user commented.

Road near stadium in Pakhowal caves in
Ludhiana: Panic gripped Pakhowal Road when a stretch near the indoor stadium caved in early Saturday, making it the third such incident in one week. Leakage in two private water supply and sewer connections is being blamed for the incident, though the MC sewer line remained unaffected by it. The road was a choc-a-bloc with pedestrians and vehicles heading to family members and relatives for Raksha Bandhan when the crater was noticed. One of the commuters, SBS Nagar's Arvind Sharma, immediately raised an alarm. The crater was so deep that the water flowing underground could be seen, he said. Civic officials quickly swung into action and parked a trolley there to stop the movement of heavy vehicles to avoid any untoward incident and prevent any further damage to the said the road caved in at 7.30am owing to leakage at two separate points, and that the leakage has been plugged. However, activist Arvind Sharma said, "There are several such stretches in the city where a disaster is waiting to happen. Some have small craters, which will only get bigger, if the authorities don't recarpet the roads." He alleged that even in the case of Pakhowal Road, the rectification of the damaged portion by MC is merely an eyewash. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
