Zaharuddin should apologise for 'baseless' MM2H claims

Malaysiakini27-06-2025
Sungai Buloh PAS division chief Zaharuddin Muhammad should publicly apologise for his recent social media posts, said the PKR Youth Legal and Public Complaints Bureau, because his claims about immigration and naturalisation have no basis in the Federal Constitution.
'His explanation is not only misleading and prejudiced but also reflects a serious misunderstanding of the Federal Constitution, particularly in relation to Malaysia's citizenship laws,' said the bureau's chief, Khairul Naim Rafidi.

Is Waytha Moorthy's civil suit to disqualify PMX's premiership a sheer publicity stunt?

WHEN starved of the oxygen of publicity, one tactic is to create some legal drama to capture the public's attention. The higher the defendant's profile, the better. Could this be the thinking behind the Hindu Rights Action Force (HINDRAF)/Malaysian Advancement Party founder P. Waytha Moorthy's civil suit that seeks to disqualify the premiership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim? This is on grounds that the royal pardon granted to the PKR president in 2018 did not state that he was exempt from the five-year disqualification period for contesting an election after being released from prison. For context, the former minister in Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's cabinet from 2018 to 2020 has wanted the High Court to declare PMX's election as Tambun MP on Nov 19, 2022 and his appointment as Prime Minister five days later null and void. On X, governance advocate ksampoh@MyOwn Inc (@Ksampoh) gave a detailed explanation as to why Waytha's suit was doomed to fail, citing similar suits against disgraced former premiers Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Tun Dr Mahathir which were previously thrown out by the court. Claiming that it was all just 'political theatre', the self-described true patriot confidently predicts that the suit will not succeed as 'the Federal Constitution, statutory time limits and past court decisions all make it clear that your case won't survive the first procedural hurdle'. Dear Waytha Moorthy, This lawsuit to 'disqualify' Anwar as Tambun Wakil Rakyat & Prime Minister is legally dead on arrival -& I say that based on the Constitution, the law, & precedent, not politics. 1- The Constitution doesn't back it Articles 48 & 50 of the Federal… — ksampoh@MyOwn Inc (@ksampoh) August 12, 2025 Commenters on the post were no less scathing with a few seeing right though the charade. One contended that the rakyat are tired of all the smokescreen acts 'by the same line-up of lawyers' that are mere diversionary tactics. It was a calculated move to ride on the momentum of the Turun Anwar rally, claimed one commenter. Knowing full well that the suit is not valid, it was argued that the former unity minister during Dr Mahathir's second premiership stint was merely trying 'to score some points in the court of public opinion'. As a person with a legal background, one commentator accused Waytha of manipulating the judicial system to spin conspiracy theories by claiming that the 'Madani (administration) controls the judiciary'. He would not be surprised if many citizens would believe Waytha. A few condemned this being a waste of court time and resources. One commenter suggested that the suit be dismissed and the 59-year-old politician be left to shoulder all the cost of this frivolous action. It was also claimed this was a part of a concerted attack on PMX by opposition groups to weaken his grip on power. One commenter highlighted that this suit was only filed AFTER the lawyer had met with Bersatu representatives, an insinuation that this was calculated political manoeuvring. More pertinently, the timing of the suit was questioned. Why not when PMX won in the Port Dickson by-election in 2018? Such gaps in reasoning caused one commenter to denounce 'this HINDRAF man is just good for nothing'. Such spurious and superfluous suits to create mere political theatre are an abuse of the legal process. As pointed out by one commenter, Malaysians are 'tired' of the constant wayang kulit (theatrics) in the jostle for power and influence. One commenter simply urged such individuals to stop wasting the rakyat's time. – Aug 15, 2025

Admitting unofficial talks already underway, PAS spiritual adviser says Perikatan ready to accept MCA and MIC

KANGAR, Aug 15 — PAS spiritual leader Datuk Hashim Jasin has not ruled out the possibility of PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) accepting MCA and MIC, saying they are open to negotiations. He said both the Islamist party and the coalition have been invited to discuss the matter with both Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties. 'I believe we are already moving towards negotiations, and these talks are open to any party. Anyone who wants to work with us can enter into discussions. 'I see MCA and MIC as being able to contribute positively to PN,' he was quoted saying by Utusan Malaysia. Hashim said this is a positive development, and PAS is always open to working with other parties as long as it does not conflict with our principles. Earlier this month, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran said the party is open to talks with other parties, as it seeks to rebuild following a more weakened position after the 15th general election. Deputy president Datuk Seri M Saravanan was also previously quoted saying the party will decide on its direction during its annual general meeting in October as it feels like an 'unwanted guest' in this government. Besides PAS and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia, PN already has the Malaysian Indian People's Party and Gerakan as its component parties.

Radzi: PAS Youth can have its pick, but Perikatan's Supreme Council will choose its PM candidate

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The decision on who will be Perikatan Nasional's (PN) prime minister candidate will remain with its Supreme Council, Datuk Radzi Jidin said today. The PN information chief and Putrajaya MP said any names floated before an official announcement are merely personal views, after PAS Youth chief named his pick which included four leaders from the Islamist party. 'As far as anyone who will be nominated as prime minister, that is a decision for the PN Supreme Council. 'So as long as the Supreme Council has not announced anything, there is nothing from PN,' he told reporters after attending a Bersatu Youth dialogue session. Radzi said any decision regarding the prime minister candidate must first be brought to and discussed by the Supreme Council. 'Until there is a decision from the Supreme Council, as I said earlier, those are personal opinions. Officially, it comes from the PN Supreme Council,' the Bersatu vice-president added. His remarks came after PAS Youth Chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden named five Perikatan Nasional (PN) leaders yesterday as potential prime ministerial candidates for the 16th general election (GE16), while insisting that the Islamist party should lead the nation. He named four leaders from his party PAS: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Datuk Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, Datuk Seri Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, and Datuk Idris Ahmad as the candidates. He also named the current Opposition leader and Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin. Both PAS and Bersatu have continued to be at loggerheads on their pick for the pact's prime minister candidate for the 16th general election since the slim defeat when led by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
