Suniel Shetty returns for ‘Hunter' season 2, Jackie Shroff joins the cast

The Print11-07-2025
'Season 1 was special. It had the thrill of discovery – of this world and of Vikram's journey. The audience saw him running from his past while trying to uphold justice. But in Season 2, that past catches up in the most unimaginable way. Vikram is pushed to his breaking point. He's a father on a mission, with nothing left to lose. This chapter took a lot out of me, and I think that truth will hit hard on screen,' Shetty said in a statement.
The show revolves around Shetty's Sinha going against the crime world to save his daughter. In season two, Sinha 'gets pulled into a new maze that is far more twisted faced against a villain who is charming, unflinching, and impossible to read.' according to a press release.
New Delhi, Jul 10 (PTI) Actor Suniel Shetty is all set to return as ACP Vikram Sinha in the second season of Amazon MX Player series 'Hunter', which just released a teaser.
Shroff and Shetty are friends in real life and have worked together on movies such as 'Border', 'Hulchul', 'Apna Sapna Money Money', 'Aan' and many others.
Shroff, who plays the negative character of the Salesman, said he was hooked when the role was offered to him.
'He's layered, smooth, calculated, and you never quite know what he's thinking. It was the kind of character that gives you a lot of room to play with. Season 2 packs a solid punch, but it's also deeply rooted in emotions. Sharing the screen with Anna (Shetty) again, but this time on opposite sides, was a treat. Hope our bhidus (friends) who watch us enjoy this battle of minds and morals,' Shroff said.
Directed by Prince Dhiman and Alok Batra, the crime thriller is produced by Yoodlee Films.
'Hunter' season two also stars Anusha Dandekar and Barkha Bisht and will soon premiere on Amazon MX Player. PTI SMR BK SMR BK BK BK

Women need to be stories, not just mere parts in it: Actor Surveen Chawla

Mumbai, Surveen Chawla, known for her performances in big OTT hit shows like 'Scared Games', 'Rana Naidu', 'Criminal Justice', says even though she would like to be part of films, women-centric stories are hard to come by. Women need to be stories, not just mere parts in it: Actor Surveen Chawla Chawla said the industry is a work in progress when it comes to opportunities for women, both on and off screen. 'Women need to be stories, not just mere parts in it. The industry is evolving where we're eventually getting into a space where you want to aspire to have equality on every aspect whether it is equality on quality or in storytelling, pay parity or on how you're treated, keeping the hierarchy aside,' the actor told PTI. Good roles are plenty in the OTT space and that's what she is currently focused on, said the actor, who has acted in films such as 'Ugly', 'Hate Story 2', and 'Parched'. "I feel like there is scarcity of such parts being written in films, which is what draws you to doing this here . If I've an opportunity to do one or five or ten such films where it satisfies my hunger that I've been able to contribute to a project in a large way then I'll do it,' Chawla added. The 40-year-old actor, who will next appear in Netflix series 'Mandala Murders', said she is seeking roles that challenge her. 'A lot of work doesn't mean there's a queue. So, from that little basket of work that you get, you try to pick the most exciting one, challenging and unique one, something that you've not done in the past. "I need to feel that joy from within when I'm waking up on a day of shooting that spring in your step that today I'm going to surmount a small little peak." Headlined by Vaani Kapoor, 'Mandala Murders' is a mythological crime-thriller. Set in the quaint, mysterious town of Charandaspur, the series will see Kapoor as a no-nonsense investigative officer, Rhea Thomas, who unravels a chilling conspiracy of ritualistic killings tied to a centuries-old secret society. It is directed by Gopi Puthran of 'Mardaani 2' fame and Manan Rawat. Chawla's co-star from the show, Vaibhav Raj Gupta of 'Gullak' fame, said the upcoming show is a 'big opportunity' for him. 'I've been waiting for three years for this trailer to come, for this show to come. I was telling myself I was like as soon as 'Gullak' is there, 'Mandala...' will reach further than that because of so many things. All the things were amazing in this show and it was a big opportunity for me to reach people because they were only seeing me as Anu for a long time. "So, it was very tough for me to break that thing because then you need somebody like Gopi sir or Manan sir who can see you doing something different. So I'm asking them, 'how did you think that I can do Vikram Singh because I couldn't see myself',' he said. 'Madala Murders', produced by YRF Entertainment, will premiere on July 25 on Netflix. Geetanjali Shree wins PEN Translates award for Once Elephants Lived Here

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) International Booker prize winning Hindi author Geetanjali Shree has been named one of the 14 titles to win the PEN Translates award, English PEN announced on Thursday. The London-based human rights organisation has selected 14 titles in 13 languages from 11 regions across the world. Among the winners, featured through the PEN Translates x SALT collaboration, are 'Once Elephants Lived Here" by Geetanjali Shree, translated from the Hindi by Daisy Rockwell, and 'Eyes, Eyes, Eyes" by Pakistani poet Sara Shagufta, translated from the Urdu by Javeria Hasnain. This strand of PEN Translates, in partnership with the SALT project at the University of Chicago, is open to works of South Asian literature in English translation published anywhere outside the region. Shree's collection of short stories explores themes of memory, loss, displacement, and how societal changes impact individuals. The winners are selected by an independent cross-sector selection panel 'on the basis of their outstanding literary quality, the strength of the publishing project, and their contribution to UK bibliodiversity". Preti Taneja, co-chair of the English PEN Translation Advisory Group and Chair of the PEN Translates x SALT Selection Panel, said that the high quality of the applications presented the panel with the best translations by new and established voices. '…and showed a commitment to publishing work that will rightly elevate a writer's – and their translator's – reputation among Anglophone readers. These projects contribute to bibliodiversity in exciting ways, as well as being of the highest literary merit. I know the finished books will go on to enthral and inspire English-language readers around the world," she said in a statement. The list of winning titles included anthologies from Ukraine, Palestine, and Latin America. Other winners of the PEN Translates award include 'Children of the Dew" by Mohammad Al-As'ad (Palestine), translated from the Arabic by Anaheed Al-Hardan and Maia Tabet; 'Chilco" by Daniela Catrileo (Chile), translated from the Spanish by Jacob Edelstein; 'The Backstreet of Memory" by Conceição Evaristo (Brazil), translated from the Portuguese by Annie McDermott; 'Jacaranda" by Gaël Faye (Rwanda/France), translated from the French by Sarah Ardizzone; 'The History of Vertebrates" by Mar García Puig (Spain), translated from the Catalan by Mara Faye Lethem; and 'Across the Ice" by Peter Kurzeck (Germany), translated from the German by Imogen Taylor. 'On Earth as it is Beneath" by Ana Paula Maia (Brazil), translated from the Portuguese by Padma Viswanathan; 'Lamento" by Madame Neilsen (Denmark), translated from the Danish by Gaye Kynoch; 'Disappearing Acts" by Maria Stepanova (Russia), translated from the Russian by Sasha Dugdale; 'Take Six: Six Ukrainian Women" (Ukraine), translated from the Ukrainian by Stephen Komarnyckyj; 'Palestine Minus One" (Palestine), translated from the Arabic; and 'La Lucha: Latin American Feminism Today", translated from Spanish, Portuguese, Mapuche and Quechua have also won the prestigious award. The works by Mohammed Al-As'ad, Conceição Evaristo, and Peter Kurzeck are their respective first English publications. 'There's so much ambition and scope to celebrate, starting with first English publications for globally renowned writers Mohammed Al-As'ad, Conceição Evaristo, and Peter Kurzeck. Like these writers, Daniela Catrileo, Gaël Faye, Mar García Puig, Ana Paula Maia, Madame Neilsen and Maria Stepanova push at the boundaries where fiction and non-fiction meet in profound truths. 'That resonates across three anthologies compiled by Comma Press, Dedalus Books and Charco Press, which offer dispatches of the most urgent and dynamic contemporary writing from Palestine, Ukraine and across Latin America. We're proud that through them we can support dozens of experienced and emerging translators," So Mayer, English PEN Translation Advisory Co-chair and Chair of the PEN Translates Selection Panel, said. The PEN Translates-supported title 'Heart Lamp" by Banu Mushtaq, translated from the Kannada by Deepa Bhasthi, recently won the 2025 International Booker Prize.
