'I have to break that cycle': Lindsay Lohan on being pigeonholed by past roles

Mint2 days ago
Washington DC [US], August 3 (ANI): Hollywood star Lindsay Lohan opened up on being pigeonholed by roles she has played in the past as a longstanding actress in the entertainment industry, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Lohan began her career at age 10 on the soap opera 'Another World', with her breakthrough in the 1998 Walt Disney Pictures film 'The Parent Trap'.
She went on to appear in many more projects, including 'Freaky Friday' and 'Mean Girls', and she is next set to reprise her role in the former film with the 2025 follow-up Freakier Friday.
Lohan shared that she "wanted to take a minute" for herself, which kept her away from leading roles from 2013 until 2022.
"I was losing that feeling of excitement about doing a film, and I wanted to live my own life for a bit, figure out how to have a more private life, a real life," she said, adding, "I wanted to wait to get that itch again."
A new project Lohan is excited about is her upcoming Hulu Drama, Count My Lies, in which she will star and produce. While talking about her career, when asked if she felt "pigeonholed," she replied, "Yeah, I do," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"I was so thrilled to work on A Prairie Home Companion, and yet even today, I have to fight for stuff that is like that, which is frustrating. Because, well, you know me as this -- but you also know I can do that. So let me! Give me the chance," Lohan said. "I have to break that cycle and open doors to something else, leaving people no choice. And in due time, if Martin Scorsese reaches out, I'm not going to say no."
At the Los Angeles premiere of Freakier Friday, Lohan shared that moving forward in her career, she would " like to take on some more serious, dramatic roles," further noting that she felt a bit of pressure to stick to the rom-com genre.

Vidya Balan Recalls Feeling Pressured To Lose Weight For Roles: "I Was Training Like Crazy, Barely Eating"

Vidya Balan has always been a vocal advocate of body positivity. She is unafraid of speaking her mind, often weighing in on the beauty standards in the film industry. Recently, the 46-year-old recalled the time when she was asked to shed weight for her 2009 film Kismat Konnection. Vidya Balan, in a conversation with Filmfare, revealed, 'There was this chatter that you have to look young if you want to work with some of the actors. I remember before I did Kismat Konnection, someone called me and said Shahid is two years younger than you. And you are being cast opposite him. Therefore, you have to shed weight and make sure you look even younger than him. Till 2019, every film came with a side note of, 'Can you shed some weight?'.' The actress, who was last seen in the 2024 film Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, added that the constant negative remarks took a toll on her mental and physical health. She said, 'There was a phase where I was training like crazy, barely eating. I had chronic body pain and swelling but I kept going.' Vidya Balan added that even her trainer could not explain what was going on in her body, which later turned out to be a hormonal issue. Eventually, Vidya Balan came with a stern response to the body-shaming. She used to tell them, 'If you want someone else's body type, cast them. If you want me, take me as I am. 'Previously, Vidya Balan talked about how she turned a deaf ear to naysayers giving her weight loss 'gyan'. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor shared, 'I think I'm shamelessly optimistic. I've so much self-belief. I've put myself out there at my biggest and not batted an eyelid. I've had people tell me I should work on myself, that I should shed weight. But I actually believe there's nothing wrong with me." Read all about it here. Workwise, Vidya Balan is currently seen in the Marathi television series, Kamali.

'It made me an icon': Sharon Stone on her infamous Basic Instinct leg-crossing scene

Washington DC [US], August 5 (ANI): Actress and film producer Sharon Stone shared that she had the legal right to remove her leg-crossing scene from the 1992 movie, 'Basic Instinct', but chose not to, reported People. The controversial scene featured Stone, who played the role of crime novelist Catherine Tramell alongside Michael Douglas (Detective Nick Curran), crossing her legs while being questioned, revealing that she wasn't wearing underwear. "I very much believe that none of us knew at the time what we were getting in regard to that shot, and when Paul [Verhoeven] got it, he didn't want to lose it, and he was scared to show me. And I get that," recalled Stone. "Once I had time to calm down, I didn't make him take it out of the movie when I had the legal right to," she said, adding, "So I did have the chance to do it differently, and I didn't because once I had the chance to step back, I understood, as the director, not the girl in the film, that that made the movie better." Although having claimed in 2023 that she lost custody of her son following her role in Basic Instinct, Stone revealed that she has no hard feelings, reported People. "It made me an icon, but it didn't bring me respect. But would I do it again? We don't get to make these choices in life. I don't participate in the fantasy world in this way," she said. "What I did with what happened is exactly the way I wanted to do it. Verhoeven and I have a wonderful relationship," Stone added, 'Basic Instinct' is set to get a reboot, with the film's original writer, Joe Eszterhas, penning the script. Stone previously said that making the iconic film took a toll on everyone involved. "Paul Verhoeven [director] ended up in the hospital--his sinus thing ruptured, and he couldn't stop having a nosebleed," she said. "There was tremendous pressure on that set." "Now people walk around showing their penises on Netflix, but in the olden days, what we were doing was very new," she continued. "This was a feature film for a major studio, and we had nudity, sex, homosexuality, all these things that, in my era, were breaking norms," she added, reported People. (ANI)
