The 2026 Hyundai Palisade is bigger and smarter, just don't expect more power

USA Today2 days ago
Hyundai's flagship SUV gets bigger and better for 2026, adding an array of thoughtful features and its first model with meaningful off-road capacity.
The Palisade is a seven- or eight-seat SUV that competes with vehicles like the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, GMC Acadia, Honda Pilot, Kia Telluride, Mazda CX-90, Nissan Pathfinder and Toyota Grand Highlander.
It comes with front- or all-wheel drive. A gasoline model is in dealerships now, with a hybrid arriving later this year.
Palisade prices start at $38,935 for a front-drive model. The new XRT Pro model, with features including AWD and all-terrain tires, starts at $49,370.
A Palisade hybrid arrives later this year. Prices for it will start at $43,660. All prices exclude a $1,495 destination charge.
While the '26 Palisade is heavier than last year's model, it won't offer more power until the hybrid goes on sale.

What's new? What's better?
The 2026 Palisade is based on a new architecture it shares with Hyundai's midsize Santa Fe SUV. It's noticeably bigger than the previous model, with a longer wheelbase and shorter front overhang.
The Wheelbase grew 2.7 inches. Overall length increased 2.5. Height and width grew 0.2 and 0.6 inch, respectively.
The Palisade remains shorter than key competitors like the Chevrolet Traverse, Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot and Toyota Grand Highlander. It leads the group in passenger space, however. Cargo room behind the third row of seats rates in the middle of the pack.
The Palisade's profile is recognizable from the previous generation. New touches include geometric fender flares and vertical DRLs and taillights.
The outdoorsy XRT Pro model is new, adding capability to a trim package on the XRT. Functional changes include an electronic limited-slip differential, all-terrain tires and front and rear fascia modifications to improve approach and departure angles.
The XRT Pro has four chassis-mounted recovery hooks.

Driving impressions
The Palisade is roomy and quiet on the road. Power is adequate, but not a selling point.
The ride was smooth on-road.
The XRT Pro I drove scrambled up steep inclines of loose clay and negotiated a series of bumps and hollows that frequently left one wheel suspended without undue drama.
Its suspension absorbed surface-street impacts well, but I wouldn't advise rock crawling. Steep hills, ruts and low-traction surfaces were easily navigable.
The 3.5L V6 generates 287 hp and 260 pound-feet of torque, the same as last year's 3.8L V6 did in the smaller 2025 Palisade. The engine is linked to a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission.
The hybrid will be the premium drivetrain, with 329 hp and 339 pound-feet of torque.
Interior look and feel
The interior is roomy and trimmed in materials that would look at home on a pricier vehicle from a ritzier brand.
Armrests, doors and dash — the spots you're most likely to look and touch — were wrapped in soft, attractive materials.
Controls include conventional switches and dials for key climate and audio functions. The touch screen is big, clear and reasonably responsive.
XRT was embossed on the head rests, and jagged lines on the seat backs recall mountain vistas.
Front and rear video cameras are useful for parking and on trails. The view turns off around 4 mph, though: fine for parking lots, but too low to be really useful off-road.
What could be better?
The gasoline-only Palisade's acceleration is adequate, but not a strong point. Commuters with heavily traveled routes may wish for more on-ramp oomph, or wait for reviews of the hybrid arriving later this year.
The XRT Pro provides more off-road capability than the previous Palisade SRT, but that's a low bar to clear. Its trail view cameras shut off at a very low speed and frequently left me seeking a forward view that was no longer available on a short off-road route.
Why buy a 2026 Hyundai Palisade?
The 2026 Hyundai Palisade is a roomy and elegant three-row SUV. It packs a lot of passenger space into an easy to park footprint. It looks good inside and out.
I expect other automakers will scramble to match unique features like power sliding third-row seats, lighted second-row seat belt receivers and a factory-installed dashcam with memory.

2026 Honda Civic Si Review: Expert Insights, Pricing, and Trims

Neither as gnarly nor as expensive as the mighty Type R, the 2026 Honda Civic Si deserves credit for being the first performance Civic in the U.S. Today, the sport sedan still packs a lot of fun for the price, offering sharp handling, a turbocharged engine, and a manual transmission. Small athletic sedan competitors include the Hyundai Elantra N Line, Mazda 3 sedan, Volkswagen Jetta GLI, and Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo. What's New After a year of offering a stickier summer tire option for the Civic Si, Honda has pulled it off the menu, so there's only one version of the sedan once again. This generation of the Si arrived for 2022 with a broader torque curve, the Civic Type R's rev-matching transmission, trim-specific spoilers, sport seats, Blazing Orange Pearl exterior paint, and a new customizable Individual drive mode setting. What We Think Although it doesn't match the outright speed of the full-tilt Type R, the Civic Si delivers sharp handling, a limited-slip differential, and a satisfyingly athletic feel, albeit with trade-offs like a firm ride and noticeable tire noise at highway speeds. In a market dominated by automatics, the fact that the Si still comes standard with a six-speed manual feels almost miraculous. Still, some enthusiasts may miss the affordable summer tire package offered last year, which is absent from this model. Like its Civic siblings, the Si benefits from clean styling, strong fuel economy, and a generous suite of standard driver assistance features. However, Honda missed a chance to enhance the sporty vibe with more distinctive drive screen customization. Overall, the Civic Si remains a highly approachable sport compact—and a natural stepping stone for those considering the even higher-performance Civic Type R. Top-Ranked Competitors: Hyundai Elantra N Line Mazda 3 2.5 S Sedan Kia K4 GT-Line Turbo Volkswagen Jetta GLI MotorTrend Tested Preceding generations of Civic Si came with a naturally aspirated 2.0- or 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine (older models came with even smaller non-turbo engines), but the current variant boasts a 1.5-liter turbocharged inline-four. It produces 200 hp and 192 lb-ft of torque. Like all Civics, the Si is FWD only, and this is one of the few that comes with a six-speed manual (most Civics come with an automatic transmission). In MotorTrend testing, the 2025 model can launch to 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. That's off the pace of a similar 2022 model, which can do the same in a quicker 7.1 seconds. That's also how quick the K4 GT-Line Turbo is to 60 mph. The FWD Kia compact sedan features a slightly bigger 1.6-liter turbo-four that makes less horsepower (190 hp) but more torque (195 lb-ft). MPGs and Range For an athletic turbo model, Civic Si fuel economy isn't terrible. EPA ratings come in at 27/37 mpg city/highway. The sport sedan can travel as far as 384 miles with a full tank of gas. The K4 Turbo isn't too far off. Fuel economy measures 26/36 mpg, and total range is as much as 360 miles. Safety Ratings and Features In its most recent safety testing for the 2025 model year, the Civic sedan earned an IIHS Top Safety Pick, the institute's second highest distinction. It also nabbed an NHTSA five-star overall safety rating. Standard Honda Sensing active safety features include: Automatic emergency braking Lane keeping Adaptive cruise control Traffic sign recognition Blind-spot monitoring Rear cross-traffic monitoring Automatic high-beams Cargo Space and Interior Room The Civic Si, Kia K4, and Mazda 3 sedan share identical front legroom measurements. Rear legroom and cargo capacity compare favorably to the Mazda. Technology Infotainment The Civic Si comes in a single specification that includes a 10.2-inch driver display and 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Two USB-C ports for the front seats and a 12-volt outlet are also standard. Sound System All Civic Si models come with a Bose 12-speaker arrangement that includes a subwoofer. Available Upgrades The only Civic Si add-ons are dealer-installed options like a trunk tray, splash guards, floormats, and wheel locks. Value Standard Features The spiciest non-Type R Civic is built with a potent little turbo engine and a manual transmission packing a standard limited-slip differential—all for a lot less than the CTR. What Does the 'Si' Mean in Civic Si? It stands for "Sport Injected." Back in the 1980s, it was used to show that the Civic had upgraded from a carburetor to fuel injection—a big deal for performance back then. These days, fuel injection is standard on pretty much every car, but Honda kept the "Si" badge to mark the Civic's sportier, more performance-focused version.

Hyundai and GM Are Teaming Up on an Electric Van for the U.S.

Hyundai and General Motors announced that they are teaming up to create an electric van for the U.S. market. Hyundai will lead the development of the van, which will be built in the U.S. as early as 2028. The two companies are also working on four vehicles for Central and South America, including compact and mid-size pickups. Two automotive giants are teaming up. Last year, Hyundai and General Motors signed an agreement to collaborate in a number of areas, from supply chain management to vehicle design. Now, the two automakers have announced a series of upcoming co-developed vehicles, including an electric commercial van for the North American market. Hyundai and GM said they will work together on five vehicles total, although only one will likely go on sale in the United States. Four of the vehicles will be built with the Central and South American markets in mind: a compact SUV, a compact car, a compact pickup truck, and a mid-size pickup. All four will be offered with both hybrid powertrains and pure internal-combustion engines and will launch in 2028. Chevrolet GM currently sells the BrightDrop electric vans under the Chevrolet brand in the U.S. But the big news, at least for those of us in the United States, is that Hyundai and GM are co-developing a new electric van for North America, which they say will be built in the United States as early as 2028. There are currently no further details on the van, including how big it will be. General Motors already sells electric commercial vans in the United States under the BrightDrop name, originally its own brand before it was folded into the Chevrolet umbrella starting with the 2025 model year. The BrightDrop van is offered in two sizes: the BrightDrop 400 measures 238.6 inches long, while the BrightDrop 600 stretches 290 inches long. Both configurations are offered with either a 240-hp single-motor front-wheel-drive powertrain or a 300-hp dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. Hyundai Hyundai currently sells the electric ST1 van overseas. Since the BrightDrop vans already compete with other large electric vans like the Ford E-Transit and Ram ProMaster EV, this new Hyundai-GM-developed van will slot in below as a mid-sized offering, with GM referring to it as a smaller sibling to the BrightDrops. Hyundai currently sells an electric commercial vehicle overseas called the ST1, which measures 221.5 inches long and is motivated by a single 215-hp motor. Hyundai also builds a mid-size combustion-engined van called the Staria, available in both passenger and cargo variants, while sister company Kia recently launched the PV5, the first in a line of new electric vans. Once production is up and running, Hyundai and GM are aiming to sell more than 800,000 vehicles per year from their jointly developed lineup. GM will lead the work on the mid-size truck platform, while Hyundai will control the direction of the compact vehicles and electric van. While the vehicles will ride on a shared platform, each company will create unique interior and exterior designs. Hyundai Hyundai also offers the mid-size Staria van overseas in both passenger and cargo configurations. More details should trickle in over the next couple of years. This also appears to only be the beginning of the partnership, with the press release stating that these are the "first five" vehicles from the duo, suggesting there's more to come. Past reports pointed to a Hyundai-badged version of the Chevrolet Colorado, but we'll have to wait and see just what Hyundai and GM have cooked up.
