Seahawks news: O-line questions, breaking on defense, more for Cardinals fans
Another week in the NFL offseason, so it is time to see what has been going on with the Arizona Cardinals' NFC West rivals — the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks. What is new as we await the start of training camps later this month?
Below are a few stories from the last week that Cardinals fans should know about the Seahawks.
Bouceback year for Kenneth Walker?
After a 1,000-yard rookie season in 2022, Walker's production has declined for two consecutive years. Last year, he played in only 11 games and had 573 rushing yards. PFF expects a bounceback year and a return to 1,000 yards.
Questions on the O-line
Every team enters the summer with questions. One of the biggest questions is the Seahawks' offensive line. But that should surprise nobody.
White throwbacks coming
The Cardinals never wear throwback jerseys. The Seahawks will, though, this year. They will wear throwback white unis sometime this season.
Breakout year from defense expected
The Seahawks were bad defensively most of last season but then played much better in the second half of the season. The Athletic expects the defensive to break out in its second season under head coach Mike Macdonald.
Surprising surprise player
Every team has offseason surprises. For the Seahawks, it was guard Anthony Bradford. He is not expected to start on the offensive line, but he could push for a starting job in camp.

Jason Kelce strips down to tiny speedo for charity event
Jason Kelce's fans may have some more inspiration for risqué tattoos after his latest stunt. The former Philadelphia Eagles star stripped down to just a tiny USA-themed speedo at a charity event in Sea Isle City, NJ, on Wednesday. A photo shared on X from the NFL team's official account showed the retired athlete standing above the crowd in the barely-there swim bottoms. Kelce arrived to the fundraiser in American flag-themed shorts. He then carried a large green beach chair into the center of the crowd. After climbing on the chair and commanding the audience's attention, he dramatically ripped off the shorts to reveal his undergarments. Several attendees were visibly shocked by the display, including multiple women who were seen staring at Kelce in amazement. Kelce, 37, hosted the fifth annual Team 62 at the Ocean Drive celebrity bartending event, which raises funds for the Eagles Autism Foundation. The retired NFL center has pulled similar jaw-dropping stunts at the charity event in his previous years. In 2023, he participated in a beer-drinking contest and wowed the crowd when he chugged 30 ounces of brew in less than six seconds. It appears Kelce is putting his newly acquired sex-symbol status to good use after he making headlines earlier this month for responding to a fan's now-viral pin-up style tattoo in his likeness. Kelce was drawn posing in a kneeling position with his hand behind his head, wearing nothing but cleats, gloves and some padding. However, fans lusting after the married father of four should be warned — his wife, Kylie Kelce, isn't a fan of the drool emoji comments left under his pictures. 'I'm gonna need you to sit down, put your tongues back in your mouth and be respectful. That man is a father to my children,' Kylie chided on last Thursday's episode of her 'Not Gonna Lie' podcast.

Lamar Jackson's response to viral post reignites heated debate about his value
Lamar Jackson's value is again being debated after fiery social media response. Disrespect is never acceptable, but we have exceeded tolerable limits. It is increasingly difficult to understand how Lamar Jackson maintains his composure. Selected by the Baltimore Ravens with the last pick of Round 1 in the 2018 NFL Draft, he was the final selection made by Ozzie Newsome during his tenure as general manager. Since then, he has accomplished significant milestones, earning two Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards, three First-Team All-Pro honors, and four Pro Bowl selections in his first seven seasons. He led all professional passers in touchdown passes during the 2019 season and topped the league in passer rating during the 2024 season. Jackson's selection has proven to be incredibly beneficial for Baltimore. During the Fourth of July holiday, he used social media to advise anyone interested in handling fireworks to do so carefully. As anticipated, the post gained significant traction. However, one overly enthusiastic fan responded with a comment that was unnecessary. Lamar Jackson answers the backhanded compliment of a fan. "Don't play with fireworks, Lamar! You're the best RB we have.' It's always hard to tell the intent of one's message when we only read the words. It's impossible sometimes to gauge one's intent or tone. If we were to use past data as a measuring stick, however, one might be tempted to believe that the words of this response slight Jackson. This reads like it's less about tipping the cap to Jackson for his dual-threat ability and more of an attempt to ride the coattails of a seemingly derogatory take. Baltimore's gunslinger has proven time and time again that he can sling it with the best of them. See his aforementioned league-leading passer rating last season, but so many still offer the opposite opinion that he's more valuable as a rusher than a passer. Regardless of where you stand on any of that, Lamar went the route of taking the high road: Classy and the typical Lamar Jackson panache there. Pat him on the back. Please keep your fingers crossed for the rest of us. We mentioned we're annoyed with the disrespect, right? We mentioned we're confused about how Jackson keeps taking the high road, correct? How does he stay so calm when the rest of us get so bothered by this? Maybe it's the professionalism. Perhaps it is his knowledge that, when you're a starting quarterback for an NFL team, this is just part of the arrangement. Most of us probably would have answered a 'clap' by 'clapping back'—credit Jackson for avoiding turning some holiday 'cheer' into a media circus. We all understand where the jabs come from. Jackson knows that to continue validating himself, he must win playoff games and eventually a Super Bowl, but as strange as it sounds, it seems that probably wouldn't be enough to change some people's minds. No one wants to win more than Jackson. "They're going to get a Super Bowl out of me." That was the promise he made to everyone when drafted. Whether fair or unfair, postseason success and title count are the most commonly used factors in grading how well NFL quarterbacks are performing. Jackson needs to deliver on his promise. To distance himself from his peers, he needs that ring, that Vince Lombardi Trophy. Then again, the same thing can be said about Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Justin Herbert. How come no one disrespects them as often as the guy in Baltimore? Jackson is on the track, and attempts to discredit him as a passer are foolish. He tossed 41 touchdowns last season vs. just four interceptions. Only five quarterbacks eclipsed his 4,172 yards passing, and he lit it up through the air despite being part of the game's top rushing attack. Lamar ranks among the elite. He destroys defenses with his legs AND his arm. Now, all that's needed is that elusive Super Bowl win.

Seahawks need way more from Byron Murphy II in 2025
The Seattle Seahawks need sophomore defensive tackle Byron Murphy II to be more effective this season. The No. 16 overall selection in the 2024 NFL draft experienced an up-and-down rookie year. Murphy II must be a healthier, stronger player in 2025. Murphy dealt with injuries throughout 2024. The former Texas standout was limited to 457 snaps in 14 regular-season appearances. He also ceded playing time to Leonard Williams and Jarran Reed, two veteran defenders who return to the defense in 2025. There were flashes of dominance from Murphy. In a Week 2 victory over the New England Patriots, he logged four quarterback pressures. He'd do that two more times, versus the Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears in Weeks 14 and 17 respectively. That indicated late-season progress. Murphy recorded just one sack, but a deeper dive into the analytics reveals the interior defender was more effective than initially believed. Murphy posted a 70.0 pass-rushing grade from Pro Football Focus on true pass sets. His 10% pass-rush win rate (PRWR) and 76th percentile run stop rate highlighted a balanced skill set. Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald is tasked with developing Murphy this season. John Schneider's 2024 first-round pick flashed pass-rushing upside in spurts as a rookie. A healthy, more mature sophomore version should be an effective defender in 2025.
