(Video) SNSD's Sooyoung Making Hollywood Debut In Upcoming 'John Wick' Spin-Off 'Ballerina'
It's always exciting to see K-pop stars step into the Hollywood scene. Lionsgate recently revealed the characters appearing in the upcoming 'John Wick' spin-off film, 'Ballerina'. Amongst the high-profile cast was Girls' Generation's (소녀시대) Choi Sooyoung (최수영).
Earlier this morning (25th April 2025, Friday), Lionsgate dropped the character posters for the cast of the upcoming movie, 'Ballerina'. The film is part of the 'John Wick' cinematic universe, focusing on Eve Macarro, a ballerina-assassin trained at the Ruska Roma Ballet School. Actress Ana de Armas will play Eve, alongside actor Keanu Reeves, who will play the titular character John Wick.
However, the cast member who surprised K-pop fans was Girls' Generation's Sooyoung. The idol-turned-actress will be playing the role of Katla Park in the upcoming blockbuster. According to a report by IGN, Katla is 'the daughter of the Ruska Roma's colleague Il Seong'. The report also highlights Katla's connection to the main character, revealing that 'Eve's first field mission is to protect Katla Park at the lavish Minus Eleven club'.
This role marks Sooyoung's Hollywood debut since starting her acting career in 2008. Apart from her career in the iconic K-pop girl group, Sooyoung has made a name for herself as an actress, starring in movies and dramas, such as 'Miss and Mrs Cop' and 'Not Others'. Since it's still rare for Korean actors to transition into Hollywood films, this news excited many fans.
Most comments mention how proud they are of Sooyoung for making her Hollywood debut in a high-profile film. Others said they look forward to catching her on the big screen. Some noted they're happy that the 35-year-old's appearance in the movie is finally confirmed. In January, a photo of Sooyoung posing alongside the cast and crew of 'Ballerina' was posted on social media, prompting rumours that the star will be in the movie.
We also can't wait to see Sooyoung's Hollywood debut when 'Ballerina' premieres in cinemas on 6th June 2025. While there's no clip of Sooyoung in the movie yet, check out the official movie trailer below:

Ex-Miss A Member Min Weds In Star-Studded Ceremony; Suzy's Absence Reignites Discord Rumours
Over the weekend, former Miss A (미쓰에이) member Min (민) tied the knot in a stunning wedding ceremony. Many Korean stars joined in on the celebrations. However, netizens can't help but notice one person was missing from the event. On 7th June 2025 (Saturday), the singer married her non-celebrity husband in a private ceremony in Seoul. Photos and videos from the ceremony made their way onto social media, revealing the star-studded guest list. Amongst those in attendance at the event were Min's Miss A groupmates Fei (王霏霏/페이) and Jia (孟佳/지아), f(x)'s (에프엑스) Amber (엠버), 2PM's (투피엠) Wooyoung (우영) and Taecyeon (택연), and 2AM's (투에이엠) Jo Kwon (조권), Changmin (창민) and Jinwoon (진운). Netizens and K-pop fans cheered over the gathering of K-pop stars and the reunion of Miss A at the wedding. Some also said it was a reunion of former JYP Entertainment talents, as Wonder Girls (원더걸스) member Sunye (선예) was also at the event. Unfortunately, fellow Miss A member Bae Suzy (배수지) was nowhere to be found at the ceremony. As the 30-year-old was the only one out of the K-pop quartet to skip the wedding, it reignited a long-running rumour. For context, there were previously rumours of discord between the Miss A members and Suzy. The speculation arose long before the group's disbandment in 2017, with some fans claiming that Suzy was ostracised by her fellow members as they had never shown support for her solo projects. There were also rumours that Min had bullied Suzy during their trainee days, but the former denied the allegations. Following Suzy's no-show at Min's wedding, the discord rumours resurfaced, sparking mixed reactions from netizens. As this is likely the first time the group would've reunited since their disbandment, fans were disappointed that Suzy wasn't at the wedding with her fellow members. On the other hand, some criticised Min for not inviting Suzy to her wedding. However, others defended the new bride, saying groupmates don't have to remain friends. Despite the discussions online, the wedding appeared to be a happy occasion, with cheers for the happy couple. We also want to congratulate Min and her husband on their marriage.
