The secretary BISP shared these views in a meeting with a delegation of officers from the 43rd Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC) of the National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA).
The 14-member delegation was received at the BISP headquarters by the secretary BISP along with BISP Chairperson Rubina Khalid on Wednesday.
Dr Syeda Faiza Urooj, Additional Directing Staff at NIPA, headed the delegation.
The primary objective of the visit was to gain firsthand insight into BISP's operational framework, institutional structure, and its pivotal role in implementing social protection programmes nationwide, aimed at uplifting Pakistan's most vulnerable populations, said an official statement issued after the meeting.
Secretary Ahmad appreciated the value of professional training programmes like MCMC, which empower officers to translate their knowledge into practical solutions and communicate ideas clearly and effectively, the statement added.
The secretary outlined key initiatives of the organisation including its flagship programmes: Kafaalat, Taleemi Wazaif, Nashonuma, Hunarmand, National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER), and a new digital payment model.
The BISP chairperson said BISP's biometric verification system ensures transparency and accountability, and it enhances the mobility and empowerment of its beneficiaries.
BISP is a transformational programme and a game-changer in the realm of social protection, she said.
The organisation adheres strictly to the principles of transparency, accountability, and dignity, Khalid said.
Dr Tahir Noor, Additional Secretary BISP, gave a detailed briefing to the delegation on BISP's institutional framework, its expansive countrywide presence, and its core objectives, said the statement.

Sharjeel highlights constitutional guarantees for minorities
KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that while the green crescent flag symbolises Pakistan's independence, its white portion stands as a guarantee for the rights and freedoms of minorities. He said that Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had stressed the importance of granting equal rights to all minorities residing in the country, a principle that is also enshrined in the Constitution. During his address in the Sindh Assembly, Sharjeel Inam Memon said that minorities in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh, have always been accorded respect, protection and representation. He said Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was the only political party that had given representation to minorities not only on reserved seats but also on general seats. Citing examples, he noted that Mahesh Kumar Malani, Gianchand Israni and Hari Ram were elected to general seats. Sharjeel added that the decision of the PPP leadership to send Krishna Kolhi to the Senate in her traditional attire was widely appreciated at the international level. He said 'when President Asif Ali Zardari launched the Benazir Income Support Programme, a significant number of its initial beneficiaries belonged to minority communities.' He added that in the ongoing 2.1 million housing project in Sindh, a substantial number of houses, along with ownership rights, were being allocated to minority families. He said Pakistan presented a unique example in the world where security was provided to temples, churches and other places of worship, whereas in India, minorities enjoyed no protection for their life and property. Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that while the green crescent flag symbolises Pakistan's independence, its white portion stands as a guarantee for the rights and freedoms of minorities. He added that a number of initial beneficiaries of the Benazir Income Support Programme were from minority communities, and that a substantial number of houses, with ownership rights, were being allocated to minority families in the 2.1 million housing project. Further, Sharjeel stated that on Monday, a man was on a motorcycle with his daughter and son when they were hit by a dumper. Both children died on the spot while their father was seriously injured. Sharjeel confirmed that the dumper driver was arrested and his vehicle impounded. However, he expressed disapproval of the people who set alight seven dumpers, stating that their actions left a driver, who had no connection to the accident, in a coma. The minister stated that emergency negotiations were held with transporters and dumper owners, and a written agreement was obtained.

24 SOEs to be privatised in 3 phases: minister
ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Privatisation Abdul Aleem Khan said that the federal government has decided to privatise 24 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) in three phases in five years. In written reply to a question to the National Assembly, the minister presented the detailed privatisation roadmap before the House on Thursday. He said that the plan outlines that 10 entities will be privatised in the first year, followed by 13 more over the next one to three years. He said that the privatisation of one remaining entity is expected to take between three to five years. He said that the first phase will include the privatisation of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), Roosevelt Hotel, the Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL), PIA-IL (Roosevelt Hotel, New York), First Women Bank Limited (FWBL), House Building Finance Corporation, Pakistan Engineering Company (PECO), Sindh Engineering Limited (SEL), Islamabad Electric Supply Company Limited (IESCO), and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company Limited (FESCO). Govt aims to privatise up to 50 SOEs in next 3-4 years: minister Minister Khan further revealed that in the second phase, 13entities will be privatise including the Utility Stores Corporation and four generation companies (GENCOs), Gujranwala Electric Power Company Limited (GEPCO), Pakistan Re-Insurance Co Ltd (PRCL), State Life Insurance Corporation (SLIC), Jamshoro Power Company Ltd, Central Power Generation Co ltd (CPGCL), Northern Power Generation Co Ltd (NPGCL). Lakhra Power Generation Co ltd (LPGCL), Lahore Electric Supply Company Limited (LESCO), Multan Electric Power Compnay Limited (MEPCO), Hazara Electric Supply Company Limited (HAZECO), Hyderabad Electric Supply Company Limited (HESCO), Peshawar Electric Supply Company Limited (PECSO and Sukkur Electric Power Company Limited (SEPCO) for privatisation. The minister said that the move is part of the government's broader economic reform agenda aimed at improving efficiency and reducing the financial burden of loss-making public enterprises. In written reply to a question, Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb said that inflation averaged at 4.5 per cent for FY2025 which is substantial drop from 23.4 per cent during FY2024. He said that the recent inflation for July FY2026 was stood at 4.1 per cent compared to 11.1 per cent same month last year. He said that the government has a comprehensive plan to tackle inflation and stabilise the prices of essential goods by taking administrative, policy and relief. He said that in budget 2025-26, government has increased its support for low-income families by expanding funding for social welfare programmes. He said that a total of Rs 716 billion has been allocated for the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), reflecting a 21 percent increase compared to the previous year.
