Insider Details Commanders Star's Desired Price Range Amid Holdout
As training camp looms, the biggest storyline for the Washington Commanders remains wide receiver Terry McLaurin. After opting not to partake in minicamp, he still seems at odds with the organization as he continues his contract holdout.
Since being drafted in the third round of the 2019 draft, McLaurin has become a foundational piece of the franchise. He's been a focal point of the offense for years now and elevated his play upon the arrival of the newest cornerstone piece in Jayden Daniels. Now, heading into the final year of his deal, McLaurin wants to be compensated on par with his peers.
Over the last half-decade, there have been few receivers in the NFL as consistent as McLaurin. He's racked up at least 1,000 yards every year since 2020, and is fresh off posting a career-high 13 touchdowns. Though he's approaching the age of 30, McLaurin is still more than capable of helping elevate Washington's offense.

While going live on Bleacher Report earlier this week, Insider James Palmer provided the latest regarding McLaurin's holdout. The two sides remain far apart as they attempt to rectify this situation before the 2025 season gets underway. Palmer noted that McLaurin isn't looking for record-breaking numbers, but wants something on par with the new market for high-end receivers.
"They were really far apart in making any sort of progress," Plamer said. " Does he want to reset the market? No. We understand Ja'Marr Chase as that $40 million. But what he's looking at, in my understanding more importantly, is that there's seven players making $30 million or more. You look at a guy whose a No. 2 wide receiver in Tee Higgins that's making about 28. Terry understands that he should be, and I agree with this, in those 30s numbers."
#Commanders HC Dan Quinn has remained in contact with WR Terry McLaurin throughout the offseason, per @JamesPalmerTV.

Paying a wide receiver entering his thirties a sizable contract isn't a great position to be in, but the Commanders don't have many options. After making numerous upgrades in the offseason, they are looking to contend right now. However, if Washington is going to reach its ceiling, it'll need McLaurin on the field.
If there was ever a time to pay a steep price for a player, it's now while Daniels is still under his rookie contract. Seeing how crucial he's been to the franchise over the years, the Commanders should be willing to give McLaurin what he's worth.
Now weeks into this ordeal, the Commanders are running out of time before McLaurin's holdout is lingering in training camp.

Both Jets LBs Quincy Williams, Jamien Sherwood rank among best by NFL coaches, execs
Execs, coaches and scouts rank top 10 off-ball linebackers:Consensus: This is the NFL's weakest position.-Fred Warner in class by himself-Top-five surprise out of Washington-Even bigger surprise out of Dallas-A 35-year-old legend back in top 10https:// The New York Jets received fantastic linebacker play from Jamien Sherwood and Quincy Williams last season. Sherwood recorded a team-high 158 tackles, tied for third-most in the NFL. Williams was a workhorse himself, totaling 116 tackles. ESPN has been releasing their top-10 position rankings list ahead of training camps opening around the league. The off-ball linebackers rankings were released on Tuesday. Williams made the list at No. 10, while Sherwood earned an honorable mention. "Williams backed up an All-Pro season in 2023 with another strong performance, earning several top-three votes," Jeremy Fowler summarized. "He held off several top competitors, including future Hall of Famer Bobby Wagner, for the 10th spot. Williams lives in the backfield, combining for 41 tackles for loss since 2022. His pass deflections decreased from 10 to four year over year." "Zero to 100 closing speed sideline to sideline," an NFL defensive coach said. "Will strike you. Dog." "He's a Pro Bowl-caliber player, elite speed and burst to close, plays physical and bigger than he is -- but to be elite you have to consistently take the ball away and he hasn't done that," a veteran NFL defensive coach said. Meanwhile, Sherwood earned that honorable mention. "Ascending player. He's a bullet. Was one of my favorite [pending] free agents back in March." -- NFL personnel evaluator said. The Jets signed Sherwood to a three-year, $45 million contract extension earlier this offseason. Williams is entering a contract year after previously inking a three-year, $18 million extension. Sherwood and Williams will be keynote performers for new head coach Aaron Glenn in 2025.

Drew Brees to be game analyst for Netflix's Christmas Day game years after NBC flameout: Sources
Future Hall of Famer Drew Brees, who was one-and-done at NBC but has expressed a desire to return to a top NFL booth, will be a game analyst for Netflix on Christmas Day, sources briefed on the negotiations told The Athletic. Brees will be on the domestic broadcast for either the Dallas Cowboys-Washington Commanders or Detroit Lions-Minnesota Vikings games. Brees worked the Netflix international broadcast last year. Advertisement CBS' Nate Burleson, who was a game analyst last year, will return in the same role, the sources said, while CBS' Matt Ryan is under heavy consideration. Netflix declined comment. The streamer has been faced with rival networks and streamers being less willing to loan out their top NFL announcers. Last Christmas, in its debut doubleheader, Netflix trotted out a small army of broadcasters, including big names, like Fox's Greg Olsen, CBS' Ian Eagle and ESPN's Mina Kimes. The other NFL broadcasting platforms have been more hesitant to help Netflix, which is increasingly considered a heavy competitor in sports. YouTube, whose timeline is even shorter with its Brazil game on Sept. 5, is facing the same issue for its Kansas City Chiefs-Los Angeles Chargers game. CBS is producing the games for Netflix, which makes it more amenable for it to loan out its broadcasters. Last year, Eagle, J.J. Watt and Burleson, all from CBS, called one game, while NBC's Noah Eagle and Fox's Olsen were on the other. Brees, 46, will have another chance to show he belongs in a big booth. When he went to NBC in 2021, he was viewed as a potential successor to Cris Collinsworth, but flamed out quickly. Brees called Notre Dame games and select NFL matchups with Mike Tirico. Brees struggled in his final NBC game, a playoff matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the then Oakland Raiders in January 2022. Last season, Brees appeared on a spot or two for ESPN, while Fox Sports has shown some interest in him as a game analyst behind Tom Brady and Olsen.

Commanders agree to deal with Von Miller in effort to bolster their pass rush: report
The Washington Commanders are bringing in reinforcements to their defensive line. The team reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with star edge rusher Von Miller. He posted an automated image of himself wearing a Commanders jersey to social media Miller captioned the post, "DC… What's good?" Miller, 36, is the NFL's active sack leader with 129.5 career sacks. The No. 2 overall pick in the 2011 NFL Draft had six sacks in 13 games last season with the Buffalo Bills in a rotational role. Miller was cut by the Bills just three seasons into a six-year deal reportedly worth $120 million. In his first season with the Bills, Miller had eight sacks in 11 games before he tore his ACL on Thanksgiving Day in 2022, which ended his season. The three-time All-Pro was activated in October of the following season, but was a non-factor as he did not have a single sack in 12 games played in the 2023 season. Despite not being the vaunted pass-rusher he once was, Miller will provide a boost to the Commanders' pass rush. The eight-time Pro Bowler will join Dorance Armstrong, Deatrich Wise Jr., and Jacob Martin as the pass rushers. The Commanders have had an active offseason after they won 12 games and made it to the NFC Championship Game with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels at the helm. The team went out and acquired star left tackle Laremy Tunsil from the Houston Texans and star wide receiver Deebo Samuel from the San Francisco 49ers. The two moves come with Daniels in mind, as they provide him with more stability on the offensive line and another weapon at wide receiver.
