The PCB's Women's National Selection Committee has named a 15-member squad for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifiers, set to take place from 9 to 19 April at the Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA ground in Lahore. Fatima Sana, who has led Pakistan in six T20Is and two ODIs, will continue to lead the women's cricket team in the 50-over event, while Shawaal Zulfiqar makes a comeback to the national side after suffering from a shoulder injury during the tour of New Zealand in December 2023.
The six-team ICC event, which includes Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand and West Indies alongside hosts Pakistan, will feature a single-league round-robin format. Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and LCCA ground will host 15 matches of the event, with Pakistan playing Ireland in the opening match of the competition at the Gaddafi Stadium.

Peshawar's PSL exhibition match in doubt
The upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) exhibition match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators is now uncertain after the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) raised concerns about the condition of Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, sources said on Wednesday.
The match is scheduled for April 8, 2025, and was planned as part of PCB's efforts to connect with local fans and build excitement before the start of PSL Season 10. However, after a recent inspection, the board's team found several issues at the venue.
According to details, the PCB team visited Arbab Niaz Stadium and carefully checked the outfield, pitch, dressing rooms, and media areas. Sources said the team found the pitch and outfield not up to the required standard. They also reported that the dressing rooms lacked basic facilities, and the media and commentary boxes were poorly equipped.
The match was expected to offer fans in Peshawar a chance to watch two of the league's top teams, Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators, face off in a thrilling encounter. It was also part of the board's plan to promote cricket in different parts of the country.
Peshawar Zalmi's owner, Javed Afridi, has long supported the idea of hosting PSL matches in Peshawar. He previously requested PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to consider Arbab Niaz Stadium as a possible venue for the league's next season.
His efforts, along with PCB's initiatives, led to the announcement of this exhibition match, which was expected to create a festive atmosphere among local fans.
It is worth mentioning that the 10th edition of the HBL PSL will begin on April 11, 2025. The opening match will feature defending champions Islamabad United against two-time winners Lahore Qalandars at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
This year's tournament will include six teams and a total of 34 matches, which will be played from April 11 to May 18. Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium will host 13 matches, including both Eliminators and the grand final.

PCB grants NOCs to top Pakistani players for participation in leagues
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to a select group of players, including Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan, enabling them to participate in various high-profile international leagues this summer. This move comes as part of the board's broader strategy to give players valuable exposure while balancing their workload. According to the PCB's announcement, centrally contracted players are permitted to participate in only two foreign leagues per calendar year. The issuance of NOCs is therefore contingent on this rule, which the PCB uses to maintain a balance between players' international commitments and their opportunities to play in lucrative franchise competitions. Breakdown of Players and Leagues Several Pakistani cricketers are set to feature in some of the most renowned international leagues this summer. Among those granted NOCs are: Big Bash League: Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan County Cricket : Mohammad Amir, Shan Masood, Kashif Ali, Abbas Afridi, Khawaja Khurram, Hasan Ali Global Super League : Khawaja Nafay, Muhammad Nawaz Caribbean Premier League: Muhammad Nawaz, Hassan Khan Although Babar Azam's name has not yet appeared in the first phase of registrations for the Big Bash League (BBL) draft, the inclusion of his name in the PCB's NOC list suggests that he will be available for selection. The BBL 15 Draft, scheduled for June 19, 2025, will see several Pakistani players included in the pool, marking the first time players from Pakistan will be eligible for an entire BBL season. The NOCs, issued as a result of the PCB's strategic planning, aim to keep the players match-ready during off-seasons and offer them the chance to hone their skills in different playing conditions. This exposure is expected to help them return to national duty in top form, ready for key tournaments like the ICC T20 World Cup. The PCB's approach also aligns with the shifting dynamics of the global cricket calendar, which increasingly features overlapping franchise leagues. By allowing its top players to participate, the PCB ensures that they remain engaged with the game while preparing for future international commitments. Furthermore, with the rise of franchise cricket, the PCB's decision also reflects an understanding of the financial and career opportunities available to players through these leagues. The board's policy ensures that these opportunities are balanced with the players' national commitments, preventing burnout and allowing them to stay fresh and motivated. As the summer's international leagues approach, the PCB's strategic moves will help its players stay at the top of their game while contributing to the ongoing growth of Pakistani cricket on the global stage.

Salman tipped to lead Pak in all formats
Salman Ali Agha has impressed the selection committee, coach Hesson and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi with his positive approach in captaincy and clarity of thought. PHOTO: REUTERS Pakistan's T20I captain Salman Ali Agha is reportedly poised to become the all-format skipper of the national cricket team after impressing selectors and the new white-ball head coach Mike Hesson, according to sources close to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The 31-year-old was initially appointed as the T20I captain for the Zimbabwe leg of the tour to give regular captain Mohammad Rizwan some rest. However, Salman has since impressed the selection committee, coach Hesson, and PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi with his clarity of thought and leadership resolve during a short period in charge. "Salman has been impressive in the opinions of the selection committee, new head coach Hesson and, above all, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board Mohsin Naqvi. All are on the same page that he should be the all-format captain," said the sources. An official announcement is expected after the Eid holidays. This development indicates that Rizwan, the current ODI captain, has fallen out of favor with the PCB and the selection committee, which is strongly influenced by Aaqib Javed. The sources added that the wicketkeeper batter's strained relationship with Aaqib, especially during the recent New Zealand tour where Pakistan lost the ODI series 3-0, has contributed to his declining standing. The right-handed batter publicly voiced concerns over his lack of authority in selection matters during the New Zealand tour, which drew criticism. The ODI series defeat followed Pakistan's disappointing exit in the first round of the 2025 Champions Trophy, hosted at home. Meanwhile, Test captain Shan Masood is also reportedly facing the axe after Pakistan's poor run under his leadership, losing nine out of 12 Tests since December 2023. His most damaging setback was a 2-0 home series loss to Bangladesh - Pakistan's first-ever defeat to the lower-ranked side. Additionally, Pakistan managed only a 1-1 draw against the West Indies last year. These results left Pakistan at the bottom of the World Test Championship (WTC) standings in the current cycle, placing ninth out of nine teams, a significant drop from finishing fifth and seventh in the previous two WTC cycles. "Masood's captaincy was unimpressive and timid, so he was destined to lose captaincy. Moreover, Masood's own performance was poor so Salman will also take over from him," sources further added. For the unversed, Pakistan's upcoming schedule includes a three-match T20I series in Bangladesh on July 20, 22, and 24, followed by a three match ODI and T20I series against the West Indies in August. In Tests, Pakistan will host South Africa for a two-match series in October. For the WTC fourth cycle (2025-2027), Pakistan will host Sri Lanka and New Zealand and tour Bangladesh, the West Indies, and England. Aqib outlines plan as Director High Performance Director of High Performance at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Aqib Javed, laid out his strategic vision for the future of Pakistan cricket during the 63rd episode of the PCB Podcast, hosted by former Test pacer Wahab Riaz. While discussing the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, he stressed the importance of clearly defining its purpose. He said the NCA should play a pivotal role in identifying and addressing deficiencies in the national team across all formats. Speaking about the allocation of academies for various age groups and women cricketers, the former pacer outlined the PCB's latest development plan. "The Karachi High Performance Centre will now cater to women cricketers, providing facilities to support their diet, training, and skill development. "The Multan HPC will be dedicated to U19 players, with a group of 30 selected for specialised training. The Faisalabad centre will be used for U17 players, while Sialkot's HPC will focus on grooming 30 U15 players," he stated.
