Children have already said 'I'm bored' 422.2million times this summer

As the temperature hits 30 degrees and frazzled parents have heard 'I'm bored' nearly half a billion times across the country, today has been declared Boredom Boiling Point. In just four weeks of summer holidays, primary school kids have parroted 'I'm bored' a staggering 422.2million times, a study suggests.
Research commissioned by The Works revealed the scale of the summer struggle, with 82% of parents admitting they feel overwhelmed trying to entertain their kids. Of those quizzed, 71% feel the pressure to keep their little ones constantly amused.
The research shows that UK kids complain 'I'm bored' an average of three times a day - 126 times per household over the summer. More than a third of parents admit it stresses them out, and nearly a quarter admit they feel completely helpless.
To help families survive the slump, The Works is launching Fed Up Friday - an emergency social media takeover packed with boredom-busting giveaways, games and competitions. Child development expert Dr Amanda Gummer said that by mid-August many parents are running out of activities to entertain their kids.
Dr Gummer said: "By mid-August the novelty of summer's gone, routines have vanished and the usual activities have run dry. Boredom is peaking, but it's also a chance to spark creativity. A little inspiration can go a long way to recharging kids' energy."
Gavin Peck, CEO at The Works, said: "When the 'I'm bored' count is pushing half a billion, it's time to take action. Parents are hanging on by a glitter-covered thread, so we're stepping in with fun that could help turn a tantrum into a painted pasta masterpiece."
The Works has recruited three kids for 'The Boredom Board' to help banish holiday apathy and encourage time away from screens. The new recruits include five-year-old Jaskirat, appointed Chief Family Officer, seven-year-old Freddie named Head of Rainy Days and seven-year-old Coco-Rae who's Outdoor Activity Director.
Armed with arts, crafts, games and toys, these mini masterminds have tested and approved a range of screen-free boredom-busters, available in-store and online. Fed Up Friday is The Works' way of helping parents get through the final stretch - swapping sighs for smiles and screens for creativity.

Frankie Bridge's waterproof games were a ‘game changer' for taking on holiday with kids

Frankie Bridge has found the perfect way to keep your kids entertained on holiday both in and out of the pool with her waterproof games that are under £20 As any parent who travels with their kids knows, keeping them entertained isn't always as straightforward as a swimming pool and an ice cream. If your little ones are getting restless on the beach or round the dinner table, a quick family game is a great way to keep them engaged. Whilst usually the idea of bringing a card game around the water or within spilling distance of food and drinks would be a bad idea, Frankie Bridge has found the perfect solution to this parenting conundrum. She shared the waterproof games she took on holiday on Instagram, writing: 'Waterproof Dobble and Uno. A game-changer. Literally' before adding them into her 'Things I used on repeat' Amazon list. The two waterproof games that Frankie recommended are both affordable and take up minimal space in both suitcases and beach bags. You can currently pick up the waterproof Uno for £19.93, whilst the waterproof Dobble is now on sale down from £13.99 to £11.20. The upgraded version of the family favourites both come with a completely waterproof protective covering that means they're protected from spills, food, sand, suncream and anything else your holiday might throw at them. The Uno cards also come with a handy clip that keeps the cards together and can be attached to your bag to make sure none get lost on your travels. The waterproof Uno cards also feature a new design, with special graphic symbols on each card. These symbols help you identify the colours so even those with any form of colour blindness can easily identify which card they're playing. Meanwhile the waterproof Dobble also features fully waterproof cards which float on water so you can use them in and out of the pool. They even come with their own lightweight waterproof carry bag, making sure you can keep them all safely together. If you want a more old-school way of amusing the kids, this 6-in-1 Games Set is now on sale at Marks & Spencer, down from £15 to £11.25. Coming in a handy storage bag, you'll find a shuttlecock, tennis ball and two rackets, a frisbee, a mini football, a skipping rope and the rackets and ball needed for scoop toss. Meanwhile at The Works, the PlayWorks Kids' Travel Activity Pack is only £5 and contains colouring books, sticker sheets, activity books, coloured pencils, a mini maze, a fidget toy, a magnetic scribble and a pairs snap game. Perfect for entertaining them on a long flight or between activities, it's compact and easy to fit in your bag. But there's no denying that Frankie's waterproof games are a genius buy, and will see you and the kids well through holidays, trips to the beach and even camping adventures. Pick up the waterproof Uno and waterproof Dobble at Amazon now.
