Centre to launch FASTag-based annual pass of ₹3,000 for private vehicles
Union minister for road transport and highways (MoRTH) Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said the government will soon introduce a FASTag-based annual pass for private vehicles at a cost of ₹3,000 for hassle-free highway travel.
Effective from August 15 this year, this pass will have to be renewed every year from the date of activation or after 200 trips, whichever comes first.
Officials said that every exit of toll booths will be counted as one trip for all highways, except controlled access expressways, while for controlled access highways, the entire travel can be counted as one trip.
According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), adoption of the FASTag system has reduced the average waiting time at toll plazas from 734 seconds to 47 seconds during the financial year 2022-23.
Gadkari said a dedicated link for activation and renewal will soon be made available on the Rajmarg Yatra App as well as on the official websites of NHAI and MoRTH.
The minister said the policy addresses long-standing concerns regarding toll plazas located within a 60-km range and simplifies toll payments through a single, affordable transaction.
The announcement comes at a time when the government has rolled out a pilot for ANPR (automatic number plate recognition)-based barrier-free tolling systems in select stretches; a satellite-based highway toll collection system is in the works.

Chhattisgarh government to invest Rs 49,000 crore in Bodhghat project to boost Bastar's development
Dantewada (Chhattisgarh) [India], June 18 (ANI): In a significant push for development in the Bastar region, the Chhattisgarh government has announced the revival of the Bodhghat irrigation project under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai. The project, planned on the Indravati River in Dantewada district, aims to provide permanent irrigation and generate electricity for the rural areas of Dantewada, Bijapur, and Sukma districts. The ambitious project, which will come up at an estimated cost of around Rs 49,000 crore, is expected to transform agricultural prospects and boost economic activity across the region. Restarting this scheme will be a welcome step because it will irrigate about 3.5 lakh hectares in Sukma, Bijapur, and Dantewada district and produce electricity.' 'If a farmer's land, house, or agricultural area comes in the submergence area, the government will compensate for it... Therefore, the farmers should not oppose this scheme because it will be a big scheme for Chhattisgarh,' he added. Local businessman Narendra Nag highlighted the potential benefits for the regional economy. He told ANI, '... This could be a good initiative if the government implements this project honestly. This will provide electricity to the entire region, employment will increase, there is also a plan for fisheries, and the area under irrigation will increase... Local citizens and businessmen will also benefit from this...' Earlier, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai had emphasised the immense potential of the tourism sector in the state, particularly in the Bastar and Surguja regions, and reiterated the government's commitment to eradicating Naxalism to pave the way for development and employment generation. Speaking to the media, CM Sai had stated, 'There was immense potential in the tourism sector in Chhattisgarh, especially in Bastar and Surguja... but the biggest hurdle was Naxalism, which the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister had resolved to eliminate... Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel The Delhi High Court has restrained the infringement of the trademark of Swedish vehicle manufacturer, Volvo In an order dated May 30, Justice Amit Bansal further restrained two transporters from the unauthorised use of the mark for their bus Swedish vehicle maker filed a plea seeking a permanent injunction against the defendants from infringing its Volvo defendants, the plea alleged, were Udaipur-based Ganesh Motor Body Repairs, a manufacturer and fabricator that made buses nearly identical or deceptively similar to the original Volvo buses, Rishabh Bus Private Limited in Delhi, which purchased buses from the maker and lured customers for its inter-city bus services by advertising its fleet of buses as Volvo said another transporter, the Bahraich-based Shanti Travels, used a motif on its grille which was nearly identical to its its case, the Swedish company said its " iconic grille slash trademark " was of particular significance as its placement on the grille of any bus or other automobile signified that the automobile was an originally a Volvo."The defendants, by manufacturing, using, displaying, and advertising lookalikes of the plaintiffs' well-known products, are attempting to create an unauthorised association with the plaintiffs (Volvo group), and target customers and deceive them to believe that the plaintiffs have launched an affordable new range of products," the plea court held that the defendants had dishonestly copied and created fake, replica or counterfeit products of the plaintiffs' famous products bearing the Volvo trademarks."The defendants' attempt to use the suit trademarks is nothing but a mala fide attempt to encash on the plaintiffs' rights and amount to infringement and passing off of the suit trademarks, with a sole intention of riding piggyback on the plaintiffs' immense reputation and goodwill to achieve immense publicity, marketing and business gains," the court order found a prima facie case in their favour of the Swedish maker for an ad-interim injunction."If the actions of the defendants remain unrestrained, then the practice of using the infringing grille slash trademarks on any bus will become rampant and the exclusivity associated with the plaintiffs' buses will vanish over time," it court, as a result, restrained the defendants and their agents from infringing the Volvo mark in any manner by physically using it on buses or using it for travel services till October 9, the next date of hearing.

Hyderabad's Raghu Vamsi unveils indigenous 40 KGF micro turbojet engine at Paris Air Show
Hyderabad: In a major breakthrough for the aerospace sector, Hyderabad-based Raghu Vamsi Aerospace Group unveiled fully indigenous 40 KGF micro turbojet engine at the 55th International Paris Air Show, being held from June 16 to June 22. The 40 KGF micro turbojet engine is developed for UAVs and cruise missiles, said a press release issued by the company on Wednesday. Successfully tested at the company's Hyderabad facility in the presence of DRDO officials, this high-thrust engine is part of a family of four indigenous engines (14, 19, 25, and 40 KGF) designed and manufactured entirely in India, added the release. At the Air Show, the company also showcased the Astra 100, a jet-powered fixed-wing kamikaze UAV developed under its deep-tech brand ARROBOT. With a range of 200km and speeds of up to 450 km/h, the UAV completed successful test trials earlier this year, said the press release. Again, powered entirely by indigenous systems -- including flight control, propulsion, and telemetry -- the Astra 100 sets a new benchmark for autonomous combat UAVs in India, it added. According to the press release, to support its expanding product portfolio, Raghu Vamsi is developing a state-of-the-art 250,000 sq ft manufacturing facility at Hardware Park, Hyderabad.
