3 arrested for killing 17-year-old friend over following girl on Instagram
The prime suspect, Delhi's Khajuri resident Waseem Khan, didn't like that the deceased was following a girl on Instagram. The police said Khan (19) with his friends Mohammad Sahil (18) and Mohammad Rehan (18) were arrested and the victim's body was recovered in bushes in Ilaichipur in Loni's Tronica City on the night of July 22.
Waseem and Sahil were neighbours of the teen, and in the morning of July 21, Waseem and the victim got in a brawl over social media posts, said police.
'The deceased, about a month ago, started following a girl on Instagram. Waseem used to follow the same girl. Waseem used to get angry whenever the deceased used to like or comment on the same pictures, which eventually led to a fight,' said Siddharth Gautam, ACP of the Loni circle.
Triggering a deadly fallout, the suspect planned to get rid of the boy and asked him to come to Loni's Tronica City for an outing. Waseem roped in others and stayed the night at Rehan's, added the ACP.
The police said that on July 22, the three took the boy to an isolated spot on the pretext of offering him chole bhature.
During interrogation, the suspects revealed that they stabbed the victim over 12 times and fled the spot afterwards. The autopsy report has indicated that the deceased suffered around 27 different injuries across the body, the ACP added.
'The suspects had purchased two knives for about ₹250 from Kahjuri. The family of the deceased in the FIR had raised suspicion over Waseem as he took the boy with him on July 21,' ACP said, adding that the murder weapon has been recovered.
Based on electronic surveillance and manual information, the three accused were arrested from Qasim Vihar under the jurisdiction of Tronica City police station on Thursday.The police said that Waseem and Sahil used to work as electricians while Rehan was a Class 10 student.

Medical student found dead in hostel room at RIMS
Hyderabad: A 22-year-old undergraduate medical student at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Adilabad ended his life in the campus hostel room on Wednesday. The reasons for the extreme step are yet to be ascertained. The deceased was identified as Sahil Chaudhury from Jaipur, Rajasthan. Police are waiting for the victim's family members to arrive from Jaipur before registering a case. Sahil, who joined the MBBS course at RIMS in 2023, shared a room in the campus hostel with two other students. At around 10:30 am on Wednesday, his roommates got ready to go to the library and asked Sahil to join them. "The exams for second-year MBBS students start on Aug 2. They rushed him to the RIMS emergency room, where Sahil was declared dead," said the inspector. Police said there was no suicide note and that the cause of death is yet to be ascertained. "Sahil last spoke to his father, Harpul Jat, a schoolteacher, at 10 am. Friends said that he had appeared slightly moody and upset since yesterday. He had no backlogs. Preying on fear: Woman falls into digital arrest trap, duped of 35 lakh; 2 arrested
New Delhi: Two men—Shubham Sharma and Mohit—have been arrested for alleged digital harassment of a woman over three months and defrauding her of Rs 35 lakh through fabricated threats of arrest and public humiliation. The complainant, a homemaker, was allegedly targeted through a meticulously planned call from an impersonator posing as sub-inspector Prashant Sharma from the Cyber Crime unit in Mumbai. She was falsely accused of involvement in illegal activities using her Aadhaar credentials. The situation escalated when the call was transferred to a woman claiming to be another officer. Through WhatsApp video and audio calls, she showed the victim forged FIRs and arrest warrants, threatening imminent detention of both the victim and her husband. The victim remained on continuous calls for extended periods and was subjected to intense psychological manipulation, eventually losing the ability to think clearly or seek help. Over the course of three months, she was allegedly coerced into transferring her life savings under the guise of assisting in a fabricated investigation. Each time a payment was made, she was instructed to delete all related digital communication. To maintain pressure and obedience, the fraudsters claimed that police officers were stationed outside her home and warned that any attempt to disclose the situation would lead to her immediate arrest. An investigation was promptly launched. Through digital forensics, analysis of bank transactions, IP logs, and mobile tower data, investigators gradually uncovered the identity and operating methods of the suspects. A major breakthrough came when a head constable traced a web of suspicious bank accounts and UPI IDs linked to shell entities across several states. "These accounts were receiving staggered payments from the victim—a critical lead that helped expose the larger syndicate. Using a mix of digital surveillance and human intelligence, Shubham Sharma was traced and arrested in Panipat. His interrogation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of co-accused Mohit," police said. Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Aditya Gautam constituted a team under ACP Anil Sharma. After locating the suspects in Panipat, the team—disguised as locals—carried out covert surveillance before raiding the suspects' residences, resulting in their arrests. Shubham told investigators he recently completed high school and, while searching for employment, came into contact with Mohit. He was persuaded to open multiple bank accounts using fake documents, forged PAN cards, and temporary contact details. He admitted to facilitating transactions through at least eight such accounts, all of which have now been frozen. He also named others involved in the scheme. According to police, Mohit—a Class X dropout—entered the racket in pursuit of quick money. He primarily recruited vulnerable individuals and assisted in setting up fraudulent bank accounts. He personally accompanied recruits to banks, helped them withdraw the illicit funds, and handed the cash over to other members of the network. Mohit was also involved in a similar case reported in Faridabad.
