Over pound of fentanyl, cocaine mixture found during search of Evansville apartment

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Authorities say they recovered over a pound of fentanyl and cocaine following a search warrant at an Evansville apartment.
According to an affidavit, investigators with the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force and the DEA Evansville Office received information in the fall of 2024 that Robert Dismuke was obtaining pounds of methamphetamine from a source outside of Evansville. Authorities say Dismuke had a woman drive him to Indianapolis from Evansville on January 29 to transport a large amount of narcotics.
During a traffic stop, Indiana State Police say a K-9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance inside the vehicle. Authorities say Dismuke was arrested and approximately three pounds of methamphetamine and approximately two ounces of fentanyl were discovered under the hood of the vehicle.
Detectives executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 200 block of West Florida Street in Evansville where Dismuke said he has been staying. During a search of the apartment, law enforcement said they uncovered illegal contraband, most of which was found inside of a bathroom attached only to a bedroom where Israel Mays was staying.
The following items were reportedly found in the apartment:
A folded up dollar bill containing 1 gram of cocaine
1.3 grams of MDMA pills
One 20mg Oxycodone Hydrochloride pill, identified as a Schedule II substance.
Fifteen round pink pills identified as Oxycodone Hydrochloride
1.3 grams of MDMA pills
A clear plastic bag containing 29 grams of blue round pills that field tested positive for fentnanyl
A clear plastic bag containing 4.5 grams of a green leafy substance that field tested positive for THC
Unlabeled pill bottles containing capsules identified as Gabapentin
A gallon size bag containing a 'cutting agent'
Four containers containing a substance containing a 'cutting agent'
Several small bags containing powder like substances that field tested positive for a mixture of cocaine and fentanyl with a field weight of 542 grams
A black digital scale with white powder residue
Twenty bottles of Promethazene, totaling over 11,000 grams of liquid, identified as a Schedule II substance
Authorities say Mays was arrested and taken into custody as he was climbing out of his bedroom window on Friday. He was charged with dealing a Schedule II drug, dealing cocaine or a narcotic drug, possession of cocaine and two counts of possession of a Schedule II drug.

Illinois bill would allow traffic cameras to investigate human trafficking

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT)- Traffic cameras could be used to investigate human trafficking in Illinois, according to a bill passed this year. House Bill 3339 would allow state police to use 'automatic license plate readers' in cases involving human trafficking. State Police can run license plate numbers through several law enforcement databases and alert officers if there is a match. The bill expands a law that allows police to use cameras to investigate other crimes across the state. Over $85,000 in unpaid construction wages recovered in Saline County Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly said in a committee hearing on the bill, 'It's very focused on specific types of crime. It's not for speeding, it's not for traffic enforcement, this is for serious offenses, and we use it in a limited and focused way and in a highly effective way.' The bill would also require ISP to delete images obtained from the cameras from the ISP databases within 120 days, with exceptions to images used for ongoing investigations or criminal trials. It also bars images obtained through automatic license plate readers from being accessible through the Freedom of Information Act. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
