Deion Sanders brought in a new wave of talent this offseason to replace Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter after they entered the National Football League. Now, Sanders is eyeing two well-known NFL figures to join his Colorado Buffaloes coaching staff for 2025.
Speaking at Big 12 media days, Sanders said he's 'praying' that Colorado is able to add former NFL quarterback and offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich, along with former defensive coordinator and head coach Mike Zimmer, to his staff.

'Our coaching staff, this is without Byron Leftwich, which I'm praying that he does the right thing, and Mike Zimmer, we have 160 years of NFL experience. With those two added, that's 204 years of NFL experience. And I want those years.'

As previously reported in March that Colorado had already hired Leftwich, Sanders confirmed that's not the case. So, per Brent Schrotenboer of USA Today, Sanders is urging athletic director Rick George to add Leftwich and Zimmer to the payroll.

The Buffaloes' coaching staff already consists of some NFL legends. Pro Football Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk (running backs coach) and Warren Sapp (defensive pass rush coordinator) are on the staff. In addition, former NFL players Domata Peko (defensive line) and Andre Gurode (offensive line), along with former NFL coach Pat Shurmur (offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach), work with Sanders.

Zimmer, who spent last season as the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator, has been weighing retirement after spending decades in the NFL as an assistant, defensive coordinator, and head coach. Leftwich, who played in the NFL from 2003 to 2012, served as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator from 2019 to 2022.

This Minnesota Gophers star's confidence has everyone talking

Minnesota Gophers safety Koi Perich wasted no time making a name for himself. As a true freshman last season, he exceeded expectations and quickly emerged as a cornerstone for the program moving forward. The Gophers don't just have a rising star — they've got a player so confident in his game, he believes he could've gone straight to the NFL out of high school. In a recent interview with KSTP Sports during Gophers media day, Perich admitted his dream was never about Saturdays — it was always about Sundays. More specifically, playing for his hometown team. 'No… I didn't watch college football, and my dream was to play for the Vikings,' Perich said. 'I would just skip through college if I could and play for the Vikings. We gotta do our three years, so I'm ready to do it.' It's a bold statement — but one that fits the edge Perich brings on the field. He's not shy about his goals, and he's already building the kind of resume that backs them up. The Minnesota Vikings could be on the hunt for a future replacement for veteran safety Harrison Smith, but they'll likely have to wait. Perich still has at least two more seasons left in a Gophers uniform. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp That doesn't mean he's just biding his time. Perich has already become one of the most important pieces on Minnesota's defense — and arguably their top long-term asset. The more plays he makes, the more attention he'll draw at the next level. He's made it clear where he wants to end up. And at the rate he's rising, Vikings fans might not have to wait long to see that dream come full circle.

Ex-NFL star Everson Griffen's ‘unruly behavior' forced flight to turn around

A former NFL star had to be removed from a Delta Airlines flight after he allegedly caused a disturbance mid-trip on Wednesday. Ex-Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen was headed to Minneapolis from Chicago when the alleged incident took place and forced the plane to return to O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, TMZ reported. The specifics of the incident are unknown, and it wasn't immediately clear if Griffen was facing any legal ramifications. Advertisement A Delta spokesperson confirmed to The Post that a flight from O'Hare to Minneapolis/St. Paul returned to Chicago 'to have an unruly passenger removed.' 3 Minnesota Vikings' Everson Griffen (97) celebrates after a sack against the Carolina Panthers in the second half of an NFL football game in Charlotte, N.C., Sunday, Sept. 25, 2016. AP 'Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior and will always work with law enforcement to that end,' the spokesperson said. 'We apologize to our customers for the delay in their travel as safety and security comes before everything else at Delta.' Flight logs showed Delta flight 1902 departed O'Hare at 10:56 a.m. CDT and touched back down in Chicago a little more than an hour later at 12:09 p.m. Advertisement The Chicago Department of Aviation, which oversees O'Hare, directed The Post back to Delta when asked for comment. Griffen, 37, posted to social media earlier in the day, expressing excitement about his trip in an Instagram Story video of him arriving at the airport, captioning it 'We out Chiccago.' The former NFL defensive end played over a decade in the league, spending 11 seasons with the Vikings and splitting the 2020 campaign between time with the Cowboys and Lions. Griffen was placed on the non-football injury/illness list in November 2021 related to mental health issues, several days after the Vikings played the Packers. It came after a standoff with police at his home that started after he had called 911 and told the dispatcher that someone had been inside the house and he needed help. In May 2024, Griffen was arrested for DWI and possession of cocaine, and as part of a plea deal, he had his driver's license revoked. He was also ordered to commit no alcohol-related or careless driving offenses.

Randy Moss bluntly shades Tyreek Hill over his ‘nowhere all-time' NFL standing

Randy Moss doesn't think Tyreek Hill has the chops to match the wide receiver greats. The Pro Football Hall of Famer dragged the Dolphins pass-catcher in an interview with the South Florida Sun Sentinel last week, telling the outlet that Hill doesn't belong in the conversation of best receivers ever. 'He's nowhere all-time,' Moss said. 'Where is he at in today's game? Tyreek Hill is probably top five. I put him top five.' Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill (10) heads out onto the field during player introductions before the start of an NFL football game between the Dolphins and the New England Patriots, Monday, Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 in Miami Gardens, Fla. AP Hill, 31, caught a stray from Moss after a disappointing 2024 season. After finishing with at least 110 receptions and 1,200 yards through the air in each of the three previous seasons, Hill had just 81 catches for 959 yards in 17 games, both totals his fewest since he played just 12 games in 2019 with the Chiefs. It was the first season Hill failed to make the Pro Bowl in his nine-year NFL career. Hill ranks 42nd in both career receptions (798) and receiving yards (11,098), giving him a long way to go to catch up to the all-time best at the position. Randy Moss speaks before Super Bowl 2025 between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles at Caesars Superdome on February 09, 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Getty Images He's a bit higher in career touchdowns (82), ranking 30th all-time. Moss, of course, has long been in the conversation for best wide receiver ever, sitting second in receiving touchdowns (156), fourth in receiving yards (15,292) and 17th in receptions (982). And if you ask him, there's no doubt in his mind where he sits among the NFL wide receiver legends. 'Is that a real question?' Moss told the Sun Sentinel after he was asked where he ranks. 'Are you being political or are you being real? 'Because if we're talking political, we'll say Jerry Rice. If we're talking real football, where I knock your ass out, it's me.'
