Will Using E20 Petrol Violate Your Car's Warranty Or Insurance? Toyota Says...

The debate over ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) has intensified after Toyota cautioned against using E20 fuel in certain models
The debate over ethanol-blended petrol (EBP) in the automobile sector has intensified after a cautionary statement from Toyota regarding the use of E20 fuel in certain models. The issue, which revolves around whether higher ethanol content damages engines, comes just weeks after Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari declared EBP to be 'the fuel of the future".
The latest controversy emerged on the popular automotive forum TeamBHP, where a user asked Toyota whether it was safe to run their Urban Cruiser on E20 petrol. Toyota's support team responded that the model was designed for E10 fuel and should not be run on E20. The company advised owners to strictly follow the fuel specifications mentioned in their car manuals.
When asked whether the warranty would remain valid if E20 fuel was used, Toyota's reply was a blunt 'no". The automaker clarified that any engine damage caused by using fuel not recommended in the owner's manual would not be covered under warranty.
This position starkly contrasts with statements from other manufacturers. Tata Motors has said all its vehicles are E20-compliant without risk, while Bajaj Auto has echoed the same, adding that owners of older BS3 motorcycles should use a fuel system cleaner to address ethanol-related deposits.
The concern for consumers is compounded by the fact that the government has steadily increased ethanol blending in petrol, with many fuel stations now supplying E20 as standard petrol. For vehicles not designed for it, Toyota warns that prolonged use could cause damage, and owners would be left footing the repair bill.
Insurance coverage adds another layer of complexity. Reports suggest that most insurers will not cover damage resulting from the use of incorrect fuel, meaning that if a non-E20-compatible car suffers engine failure due to ethanol content, the cost may fall entirely on the owner.

Tariffs on India over Russian oil prompted Moscow to seek talks with US: Trump

New York/Washington, Aug 15 (PTI) US President Donald Trump has claimed that the tariffs imposed on India for purchasing oil from Russia have influenced Moscow's decision to seek a meeting with Washington, as the country was losing its 'second largest customer". The comments come ahead of Trump's high-profile meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, scheduled for Friday in Anchorage, Alaska. In an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Trump said, 'I think everything has an impact," and claimed that when he told India that 'we're going to charge you, because you're dealing with Russia and oil purchases", it 'essentially took them out of buying oil from Russia". 'And then they (Russia) called, and they wanted to meet. We're going to see what the meeting means. But certainly, when you lose your second largest customer, and you're probably going to lose your first largest customer, I think that probably has a role. 'India was the second largest, and getting pretty close to China. China is the largest (purchaser of Russian oil)," the US president said. India on Thursday said it has not halted oil purchases from Russia in response to the US President's tariff threat and continues to buy based solely on economic considerations. Trump last week announced an additional 25 per cent tariff on US imports from India — raising the overall duty to 50 per cent — as a penalty for the country's continued imports of Russian oil. The tariffs will come into effect from August 27. However, AS Sahney, Chairman of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), the country's largest oil firm, has clarified that there is 'no pause" on Russian oil imports, and India's intent to continue buying Russian oil remains unchanged. 'We continue to buy, purely based on economic considerations, that is to say if the pricing and characteristics of the crude make sense in our scheme of processing, we buy," he told reporters in New Delhi. Responding to the US tariffs, the Ministry of External Affairs had said that the targeting of India is unjustified and unreasonable. 'Like any major economy, India will take all necessary measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security," it said. Trump has said that India's purchasing of Russian oil is 'fuelling" the war machine. Income Tax Filing 2025: The Income Tax Department has released the ITR-6 Excel Utility for the financial year 2024-25 (Assessment Year (AY) 2024–25), enabling eligible entities to file their annual income tax returns with updated reporting features. Who Needs to File ITR-6? ITR-6 is mandatory for all companies registered under the Companies Act, 2013 (or earlier versions), except those eligible to file ITR-5. This includes: Private Limited Companies Public Limited Companies One Person Companies (OPCs) Other companies not claiming exemptions under Section 11 of the Income Tax Act (e.g., charitable or religious institutions). Who Are Not Eligible For ITR-6 Not applicable for companies claiming exemptions under Section 11 (e.g., trusts or institutions with income from property held for charitable or religious purposes). ITR-6 is not for individuals, HUFs, firms, or other entities—these use other ITR forms (e.g., ITR-1, ITR-3, ITR-5, etc.). Companies must file ITR-6 electronically with a digital signature. Different Deadlines For Taxpayers: September 15 Deadline For Those Who Don't Require Audit The tax department has extended the deadline for those taxpayers who don't require audit to file the taxes. The changes in income tax forms, new slabs under new income tax and capital gain taxes have prompted the department to extend the dates. Who Can File ITR By October 31, 2025? Taxpayers whose accounts need to be audited—such as companies, proprietorships, and working partners in firms—have until October 31, 2025, to file their income tax returns (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 (assessment year 2025-26). Before they can do that, they must ensure their audit report is submitted by September 30, 2025. As of now, the Income Tax Department has not announced any extension to this deadline. Deadline for Those with International Dealings If a taxpayer is involved in international transactions or certain specified domestic transactions, they are required to submit a report under Section 92E. In this case, the due date for filing ITR is November 30, 2025. To stick to this timeline, their audit report must be submitted by October 31, 2025. Just like in other categories, the government has not given any update about extending this due date. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
