Twins reinstate Byron Buxton from injured list to start series vs. Yankees
Buxton was sidelined just before the Twins tore down their roster leading to the trade deadline. He was batting .282 with 68 runs, 23 homers, 59 RBIs and a .905 OPS in 85 games when he went on the IL, all team-leading totals and averages among players with a qualifying amount of at-bats.
The Twins sent outfielder Carson McCusker to Triple-A St. Paul to make room for Buxton, who also has stolen 17 bases in 17 attempts. Despite the rib cage issue and a concussion that cost him time earlier, Buxton has been as healthy as he has in several seasons. He's on pace for the second-most games in his 11-year major league career, behind the 140 games he played in in 2017.

Villarreal says season-ticket holders can travel for free to league game against Barcelona in Miami
MADRID (AP) — Villarreal is promising travel and tickets for free for season-ticket holders if its Spanish league match against Barcelona is played in Miami in December. The club said Tuesday that those who don't want to go, or can't go, will get a 20% discount on their season tickets. The Spanish soccer federation on Monday approved a request for the match to be played in the United States on Dec. 20. UEFA and FIFA now have to approve the request before it can be made official. 'We would be the first (Spanish) team to play a league match abroad,' Villarreal president Fernando Roig told a news conference. 'It would greatly help us expand our brand in a key market like the United States.' Staging a match abroad has long been part of the league's goal to promote soccer and its brand in other countries. It first tried to stage a match in the U.S. in 2018, with a game between Barcelona and Girona, but the idea was dismissed after criticism from players, fans and clubs. Subsequent attempts to play there also failed. The league offered compensation packages for Girona fans when it tried to take its home match against Barcelona to the U.S. in 2018. It wasn't clear whether it would be Villarreal or the league paying for the travel and the tickets for the club's fans this time. The attempts to play in the U.S. are part of the league's long-term partnership with sports and entertainment group Relevent Sports, which is part of Stephen Ross' portfolio of companies including Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami Dolphins, the Formula One's Miami Grand Prix and the Miami Open tennis tournament. Former Premier League referee Coote gets 8-week ban for offensive comments about Klopp
LONDON (AP) — Former Premier League referee David Coote has been banned for eight weeks and ordered to take a face-to-face education program for making offensive comments about Jürgen Klopp in a private video that ended up being widely circulated on social media, leading to the match official getting fired. Coote admitted to a Football Association charge of acting 'in an improper manner' and/or using 'abusive and/or insulting words' in a video recorded around July 2020. Two videos, apparently filmed using a phone, circulated on social media appearing to show Coote giving his personal opinion on Liverpool and Klopp, its long-time former manager, when asked by an unidentified man. Coote uses an expletive for Liverpool and a derogatory term for Klopp, saying he disliked the German manager because he was 'arrogant' and 'accused me of lying' after one game. The FA charge including an allegation that Coote's actions constituted an 'aggravated breach' of rules because they 'included a reference — whether express or implied — to nationality.' An independent regulatory commission announced on Tuesday it had imposed the new sanctions on Coote following a hearing. Coote was initially suspended for his conduct and then fired in December because his position was deemed 'untenable' by English soccer's referees body following an investigation into his conduct. Coote was also investigated by the FA following allegations in British newspaper The Sun that he discussed with a fan the possibility of giving a yellow card to a player in a match. The former referee denied any wrongdoing and the FA said in June that no charges were issued in relation to that investigation. Red Bull moves into rugby by taking full ownership of English club Newcastle
NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Red Bull's sporting portfolio now includes a top-flight English rugby union team after the energy drinks giant took full ownership of Newcastle Falcons on Tuesday. The club has been rebranded as Newcastle Red Bulls ahead of the new season starting next month, and said the move will embrace 'the innovative approach that Red Bull has brought to its sports initiatives across the world.' They include stakes in a number of soccer teams, including Leipzig, Salzburg and Leeds, as well as in Formula One. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp recently became Red Bull's head of global soccer. Newcastle plays in the top domestic league, newly called the Gallagher Prem, and has won five major titles, including the league championship in 1998. One of its most notable former players is England great Jonny Wilkinson. Newcastle's last trophy was the domestic cup in 2004. 'Together, we aim to elevate rugby to new heights and deliver unforgettable moments for our fans,' said Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull's CEO in corporate projects and investments.
