Production on season 3 will kick off in Cape Town, South Africa later this year. Ian Stokes, who has been co-executive producer on One Piece, is set to join Joe Tracz as co-showrunner. He succeeds Matt Owens who departed in March after serving as executive producer and co-showrunner on Seasons 1 and 2. Tracz became co-showrunner in Season 2 and has been shepherding the season through post-production following Owens' exit.
Here's the logline for season 2, which promises to 'unleash fiercer adversaries and the most perilous quests yet. Luffy and the Straw Hats set sail for the extraordinary Grand Line—a legendary stretch of sea where danger and wonder await at every turn. As they journey through this unpredictable realm in search of the world's greatest treasure, they'll encounter bizarre islands and a host of formidable new enemies.'
Executive Producers for season 2 are Tracz and Owens, Eiichiro Oda, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements, Tetsu Fujimura, Chris Symes, Christoph Schrewe and Steven Maeda. The show is created in partnership with Shueisha and is produced by Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partner).
One Piece follows Monkey D. Luffy on his quest to find the legendary fabled treasure, the One Piece, and become King of the Pirates. After its debut on Netflix in 2023, the live-action series spent eight weeks on the Global Top 10, reaching No. 1 in over 75 countries and making history as the first Netflix English-language series to debut at No. 1 in Japan. The show has nearly 100M views and is one of Netflix's most downloaded shows of all time.

'KPop Demon Hunters' heads to select theaters for sing-along event

Get ready to sing your hearts out and seal the Honmoon with a "KPop Demon Hunters" sing-along. The hit Netflix animated film is coming to select theaters for one weekend this month, the streaming platform announced Tuesday. A series of screenings of the film will take place across the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 23 and 24. The limited theatrical screening event will be a sing-along version of the movie, according to a press release. Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 6 a.m. PT. News of the sing-along event comes one day after the film's viral song, "Golden," reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, which is by the fictional K-pop girl group Huntr/x and performed by EJAE, Audrey Nuna and REI AMI, made history as the first No. 1 Hot 100 hit by a female K-pop group, with nearly 32 million streams, 7,000 sales, and 8.4 million radio airplay impressions in the United States, according to Billboard. The track also continues to rise on the charts for a seventh consecutive week, surpassing 3 billion global streams to date, according to a press release. The achievement also marks the first Hot 100 No. 1 by any act with a fictional background since "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from Encanto in March 2022, as well as the first female group track to do so since Destiny's Child in 2001. The soundtrack has also claimed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Soundtracks chart, dominating for a seventh week. The "KPop Demon Hunters" soundtrack continues to hold steady at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, recording its best week yet with 100,000 equivalent album units. The album, associated with the animated action-fantasy film of the same title, has grown in popularity each week since its release. The action-packed film, which premiered June 20, follows a world-renowned K-pop girl group balancing their lives in the spotlight with their secret identities as demon hunters. The film has become a global streaming sensation on Netflix, with 158.8 million views since its debut, ranking among the streamer's most popular titles ever. It's been in the Netflix Top 10 for seven weeks, according to Variety. The movie stars Arden Cho, Ahn Hyo-seop, May Hong and Ji-young Yoo. Knowing how important the soundtrack would be, directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans collaborated with experienced K-pop producers. "Because we wanted the music to be really incredible and really speak to the K-pop fans and be legitimately fit into the K-pop space, we felt that it was important to partner with a Korean label," Kang said during a Netflix press interview, per BBC.

Netflix's ‘One Piece' Crew Rallies Around Charithra Chandran After Racist Backlash

With One Piece season two sailing onto Netflix next year, the latest teaser surprised fans with exciting looks at what's to come for the Straw Hats. In their journey to the Grand Line, they're set to encounter more friends and foes. One of the new faces in the cast is Charithra Chandran as Nefertari Vivi, also known in the long-running manga and anime as Miss Wednesday. The character in the comics is depicted as a light-skinned Egyptian woman, and a loud minority of racist One Piece nerds are criticizing Chandran's casting because the actor has darker skin. Because of course, they are mad at that being a plausible thing in a universe where a man can stretch his skin or a talking reindeer can be a medical professional. In response actress Emily Rudd, who plays Nami, shared on her Instagram stories, 'Perceived 'canon' does not excuse blatant racism or hate of any kind. I am beyond proud of our show, our cast, and the opportunity we have to bring to life a story centered around a diverse found family—by an equally diverse found family.' Rudd also shared a lengthy post from co-star Rob Colletti (who will debut as Wapol in season two): As Colletti points out, 'Charithra was hand-selected by [One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda], and he has far more knowledge and understanding of his own characters than anyone else, particularly the hateful, unimaginative creeps who actually have the audacity to get on the internet to throw hate speech towards an actor without even seeing their absolutely amazing performance on the show.'
