Rahul Gandhi asks Karnataka government to investigate ‘vote fraud' in Mahadevapura Assembly constituency

The Hindu2 days ago
Charging the Election Commission of India (ECI) with colluding with the BJP to 'steal seats and elections' in the country, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday (August 8, 2025) asked the Karnataka Government to investigate the 'vote fraud' in the Mahadevapura Assembly seat under the Bangalore Central Lok Sabha constituency and take action against officials involved.

Addressing a huge gathering of party workers at a rally organised by the Congress party at Freedom Park in the city, Mr. Gandhi claimed that 1,00,250 'fake votes' were created in Mahadevapura in order to ensure a win for the BJP during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Demanding that the ECI should immediately share electronic voter data and videography done at polling booths during the elections in the last ten years, Mr. Gandhi said if they do not do so, it only proves that they are hiding evidence of a 'criminal act' and helping the BJP in stealing votes.
Five ways of vote theft
Listing out five different ways through which the alleged 'vote fraud' was done, he said the ECI had manipulated to increase the voters for BJP by creating duplicate voters. 'Our research in the last six months by tallying every voter identity photo with lakhs of photographs has shown fake and invalid addresses have been created. While bulk voters have been found at a single address, invalid photos and the misuse of Form 6 that is meant for enrolling first time voters has been done,' he explained.
Alleging that the ECI is not supposed to function for the BJP but for the constitution, Mr. Gandhi said it is the Commission's duty to protect the constitution and rights of the country's citizens.
Pointing out that the Mahadevapura seat 'vote fraud' is just an example, he said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has managed to remain in power by stealing 25 seats that he needed and all these seats have been gained by a margin of around 34,000 votes.
Campaign to continue
'We have physical data of voters on paper. If you do not share electronic data, we will continue our investigation and campaign to prove that such 'criminal acts' have not been done just against the people of Karnataka but across the country. You cannot hide evidence. You will have to face the opposition. The Karnataka government should investigate this criminal act against the people of Karnataka and take action these ECI officials who have added thousands of fake voters. Mahadevapura 'a truth should come out,' he asserted.
Calling upon every Congress worker to protect the Constitution and it principles, Mr Gandhi said the whole nation should question why the ECI is not sharing electronic data. 'Instead they are amending rules and bringing down their websites in several States where people are questioning them.'
PM Modi should step down: Siddaramaiah
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should immediately step down from his post. 'He has no moral right to continue in his post. Mr Rahul Gandhi's 'vote fraud' expose has shown that he has stolen seats to remain in power,' he alleged.
Legal banks should be set up: Shivakumar
Deputy Chief MInister D.K. Shivakumar, who spoke at the protest rally, said it is Mr. Gandhi's wish that 'legal banks' should be set up to protect the rights of every voter at the booth level. 'I assure the party that we will work towards setting up such banks on the lines of blood banks,' he said.
AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and several others leaders also spoke.

Prashant Kishor Alleges Nitish Kumar Lacks Fitness, Incable To Continue As CM

In a sharp political attack ahead of the upcoming Bihar assembly elections, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor on Sunday appealed to voters to move beyond Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, claiming that Kumar's physical and mental health no longer permit him to effectively lead the state. Speaking to mediapersons at a roadshow in Bihar's Nalanda, Jan Suraaj founder said, "Due to the good work done by Nitish Kumar, people, especially the people of Nalanda-Harnaut, made him the Chief Minister for 20 years. But today, Nitish Kumar's physical and mental condition is not such that he can remain the Chief Minister. He has grown old; that is why people now have to look beyond Nitish." He further said that roads were improved and electricity was provided during Nitish Kumar's tenure as Chief Minister, but he failed to provide education and employment. "During Nitish's rule, roads were improved, and electricity was provided, but people did not get employment, and migration did not stop. Nalanda has definitely developed more than other districts, but the poverty of the people here has never been eradicated. "Till now, no provision has been made for education and employment for the children of the people here," Kishor said. Earlier on August 3, Kishor criticised the Election Commission over the alleged removal of names from the electoral rolls but asserted that "those whose names remain on the voter list are enough to remove BJP and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar" in the upcoming assembly elections. The Jan Suraaj founder also launched a scathing attack on RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, saying that he has no issues to talk about. Yadav has claimed that his name is missing in the draft electoral rolls of Bihar. Kishor said, "Tejashwi Yadav has no issues to talk about; there is no doubt that the Election Commission is removing people's names... but those whose names remain on the voter list are enough to remove BJP and Nitish Kumar, how many names will they cut? ... The people of Bihar have decided that they want employment, not empty speeches... no one is going to fall for false promises; those whose names are not on the list will fight the Election Commission, the Election Commission is not the master; the people are the masters. Whoever the people vote for will win." Taking aim at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Kishor accused him of "mocking" the people of Bihar in Delhi. He also accused Gandhi of showing indifference when Biharis are "attacked" in different states. Notably, assembly polls are due later this year.

PM Modi credits India's tech prowess for Operation Sindhoor's success, lauds Karnataka's role

BENGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the success of India's forces in Operation Sindhoor, which destroyed terrorist hideouts deep across the border, was due to India's technological prowess and the strength of the 'Make in India' initiative in defence. He said the success of the operation had shown a 'New India' to the world, emphasising India's strength in forcing Pakistan, which came to defend the terrorists, to its knees within hours. Modi added that Bengaluru and Karnataka had contributed significantly to the success of the operation. He was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 (Orange Line) project, worth over Rs 15,610 crore, in the city on Sunday. Addressing the audience after laying the foundation, Modi said, 'I am coming to Bengaluru for the first time after Operation Sindhoor. The success of the operation has shown a New India to the entire world. A major factor behind the victory of the operation is the indigenous technology and the might of Make in India in defence. There is a lot of contribution towards this from the youth of Bengaluru and Karnataka. I congratulate them for their contributions.' Earlier, amidst chants of 'Modi, Modi', the Prime Minister, who began his speech in Kannada, said that Bengaluru had become a symbol of New India and that it had 'philosophical knowledge' in its soul and 'tech knowledge' in its action. 'Bengaluru has put India on the global tech map. The talent and the contribution of the people of Bengaluru to this success is immense,' Modi said, adding that 'urban planning' and 'urban infrastructure' are essential for cities like Bengaluru, and that the city is prepared for the future. He said that the Bengaluru Metro's Yellow Line had been inaugurated along with three Vande Bharat trains. 'The Yellow Line connecting RV Road to Bommasandra will connect key areas in Bengaluru, reducing the travel time between Basavangudi and Electronic City,' Modi said, adding that this would enhance ease of living and ease of working.
