BREAKING: Monnapule Saleng set to leave Orlando Pirates!
Saleng last played for Pirates in December 2024 with no release explanation given for his absence at the time.
There have been many rumours about Saleng's situation with Pirates , with the club and his management both releasing statements. Initial rumours were that the winger was denied a lucrative opportunity abroad a couple of years back. It was also recently claimed that Egyptian giants Al Ahly had agreed a deal to sign him from the Buccaneers. That deal hitting a snag saw him disgruntled and missing training.
In March Saleng returned to action for the first time in 2025, having being sidelined by Pirates. His first bit of football came courtesy of Bafana Bafana, an impressive 90 minute outing against Egypt. This in a 1-1 draw in the African Nations Championship qualifiers first leg. However, the player did not make the squad for the second leg in Egypt the next weekend.
There had also been rumours that Saleng had signed a pre-contract with Pirates' arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs . Rumours of his exit were also fuelled by his absence as the Buccaneers resumed pre-season training. Furthermore, he was not spotted as the team departed for their pre-season camp of Spain last night.
But earlier on Tuesday this publication reported that Saleng was set to join up with Pirates in Spain later this week. But now according to the latest from SABC Sport, he is set to be loaned out to Orbit College.
'SABC Sport has established that Orlando Pirates are in advanced discussions to loan out winger Monnapule Saleng to their Betway Premiership rivals. It's understood talks are ongoing between the Soweto giants and newly promoted outfit Orbit College to help revive the players' career. To help him find his feet again, SABC Sport has been informed that Saleng is edging closer to a loan spell at Orbit College, who were promoted to the Premier Soccer League topflight last month.' Wrote the publication.

With the score level at 1-1, the turning point arrived with a late free-kick that Pirates executed from a disputed position, a decision that went unchallenged due to the absence of VAR. Stellenbosch have finished as quarterfinalists, semifinalists, and runners-up in the last three competitions, and now stand poised to take the next step towards championship glory. On Sunday, Stellenbosch take on AmaZulu in an MTN8 quarter-final (starting 15h00). Both teams, having experienced heartache in previous seasons, are desperate to secure their first title in this competition, making for an exciting matchup between two hungry squads. Cape Town City had been hoping for a last-minute lifeline that might see them reinstated in the Betway Premiership, but those hopes were crushed on Thursday night when the PSL Disciplinary Committee (DC) handed Gallants a R200,000 fine — half suspended — for violating registration rules. That means the MTN8 will go ahead without delay, and the top-flight calendar remains intact, even though the decision leaves many with more questions than answers. City had taken the matter to arbitration through the South African Football Association (SAFA), arguing that Gallants breached league regulations by fielding Mphambaniso in 26 of their 28 league matches last season despite not securing the correct clearance certificate. The PSL handbook clearly stipulates that such documentation is required when a player moves between clubs, especially if they were previously registered as professionals. With that transaction, Mphambaniso effectively became a Leruma United player — and thus should have been cleared anew to feature for Gallants. Instead, Gallants simply carried on with him in their squad, setting the stage for a dispute that could've derailed the entire league kickoff. PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu confirmed on Thursday that Gallants had pleaded guilty to misconduct, acknowledging their failure to follow proper procedure in registering Mphambaniso.
