He noted that the arrangement is part of existing transitional understandings within the PA framework, but did not name any technocrat candidate.
Speaking to accredited foreign media in Cairo in response to a Sky News Arabia question, Abdelatty rejected any expansion of military operations in Gaza or attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, condemned the use of starvation as a weapon of war, and called for the urgent, unimpeded entry of humanitarian and medical aid.
On calls for Hamas to disarm, he said: 'Creating a political horizon to realize the Palestinian state is what guarantees unity and the exclusive possession of arms by the state.' He added that Egypt is working 'in full cooperation with the Qataris and the Americans' to revive an initial proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, along with the release of some hostages and Palestinian detainees.
Abdelatty stressed that Rafah crossing is open from the Egyptian side, but that Israel—as the occupying power—must allow aid through the Palestinian side, which it controls.
He also outlined preparations for Egypt to host an International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza once a ceasefire is reached, to mobilize support for the Arab-Islamic plan and enable Gazans to remain on their land.
The minister opened the meeting by outlining Egypt's foreign policy principles: support for the nation-state and its institutions; respect for sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity; non-interference in internal affairs; and adherence to international law and the United Nations (UN) Charter.
He said these principles guide Cairo's efforts to promote security, build partnerships, and strengthen regional stability.
Abdelatty also addressed other regional issues.
On Sudan, he stressed the need for a ceasefire and support for state institutions.
On Libya, he called for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections, the dismantling of militias, and the withdrawal of foreign forces, fighters, and mercenaries.
Regarding water security, he reiterated Egypt's concerns over the Ethiopian dam, rejecting unilateral measures and calling for cooperation under international law on shared watercourses.
He also highlighted Egypt's engagement in the Sahel, West Africa, Somalia, and the Horn of Africa. He stressed the strategic priority of securing the Red Sea and maritime navigation, linking both directly to Egypt's national security and economy.

He also referenced the successful visit of senior Egyptian officials to India earlier this year, where both nations identified promising opportunities in investment, tourism, and technology. Reaffirming India's commitment to strengthening its historic bond with Egypt, Ambassador Reddy noted that both nations, ancient civilizations with proud traditions, are working together to shape a more equitable and interconnected world. Inviting Egyptians to explore India's tourism, education, and cultural offerings, he expressed hope that the friendship between the Nile and the Ganges would continue to flourish. The celebrations continued with cultural performances that infused the atmosphere with patriotic zeal. Egyptian artists Kariman and Jenna Omar captivated the audience with stirring renditions of Dil Diya Hai Jaan Bhi Denge and Ae Watan Aabaad Rahe Tu. Students from MACIC (Maulana Azad Centre for Indian Culture) presented Kathak and Bollywood dance performances, showcasing how cinema, music, and arts are deepening people-to-people connections between the two countries. In the lead-up to the event, MACIC organized a series of competitions—including a Patriotic Song Competition, Indian Dance Competition, and Independence India Quiz—which saw enthusiastic participation. Prizes were awarded to winners during the celebration. The Embassy also felicitated local staff who have served for over 25 years, honoring their dedication and commitment. Egypt vows to protect its existential water rights, rejecting unilateral actions on the Nile
Egypt has affirmed its commitment to preserving its water rights in the Nile River and rejected the unilateral measures being implemented by Ethiopia in the southern basin of the river. In a joint statement from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Water Resources and Irrigation on Thursday, Ministers Badr Abdel-Ati and Hani Sweilam discussed coordinating efforts to defend national interests, which are a priority for national security, and to strengthen historical relations and cooperation with Nile Basin countries. According to the statement, the ministers stressed that 'Egypt has always been committed to cooperation and achieving mutual benefit with all sister nations of the Nile Basin, and we are certain that preserving Egyptian water security does not mean impacting the developmental interests of the sister Nile Basin countries.' The statement confirmed that the 'desired balance can be achieved by adhering to the rules of international law for the governance of the Nile River and the necessity of cooperation to achieve mutual benefit on the basis of international law.' The ministers also discussed the latest developments in the ongoing consultative process within the Nile Basin Initiative to restore consensus and inclusivity among member states. Protecting national interests The ministers affirmed Egypt's complete rejection of the unilateral measures that violate international law in the Eastern Nile Basin. The statement confirmed that Egypt will continue to monitor developments closely and will take all measures guaranteed to it under international law to protect the existential capabilities of its people. The two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination to ensure the achievement of national goals and the protection of Egyptian water security. They also discussed monitoring the implementation of projects that the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation plans to carry out in the coming period to enhance cooperation with Nile Basin countries. This includes the Mabakana dam project for hydroelectric power in the Democratic Republic of Congo, which will be financed through a new Egyptian funding mechanism for infrastructure projects in the Southern Nile Basin. The ministers also confirmed Egypt's historical and continuous support for development efforts in Nile Basin countries, especially those in the Southern Nile Basin. They reviewed the latest developments in various cooperation mechanisms, including a new Egyptian funding mechanism with an initial budget of $100 million for the study and implementation of development and infrastructure projects, such as dams, in the Southern Nile Basin countries, as well as the role of the Egyptian Partnership for Development Agency and the Egyptian Initiative for Nile Basin Development.
