MediaTek announces Dimensity 9400e chipset for flagship devices

GSM Arena14-05-2025

MediaTek has announced the Dimensity 9400e, a new chipset in the company's flagship Dimensity family. The 9400e sits below the 9400 and the 9400+ models, and is essentially a rebranded 9300+ from last year with minor changes.
The Dimensity 9400e has the company's All Big Core design, which includes 1x 3.4GHz Cortex-X4, 3x 2.85GHz Cortex-X4, and 4x 2.0GHz Cortex-A720 CPU cores, same as the 9300+. There's also 8MB L3 cache and 10MB SLC. The chip supports up to 8533MHz LPDDR5X memory, which is a drop from the 9600MHz supported by the 9300+. There's also UFS 4 + MCQ storage support. The 9400e also uses the same 12-core Immortalis-G720 MC12 GPU as the 9300+ with hardware accelerated ray-tracing support.
Most of the media and connectivity features remain the same between the two chips. However, the 9400e does have faster 7.3Gbps Wi-Fi peak data rate compared to 6.5Gbps on the 9300+. There's also faster Bluetooth 6.0 with dual Bluetooth engine, and MediaTek claims it has a connection range of up to 5km within line of sight. The 9400e also supports the latest MediaTek NeuroPilot SDK, enabling modern AI technologies, including support for Multi-Modality (LMM), Large Vision Models (LVM), and additional Language Models (SLM/LLM) from the global AI ecosystem.
On the gaming front, the 9400e supports MediaTek HyperEngine and MediaTek Adaptive Gaming Technology as the 9300+ for improved performance and lower power consumption, but also adds MediaTek Frame Rate Converter, which claims to reduce power consumption by 40% when enabled without specifying how.
You can expect to see this chip relatively soon. Sister brands OnePlus and Realme have both announced support for the chipset, with OnePlus including the chip in its upcoming OnePlus Ace5 Racing Edition for China and Realme featuring it in its Realme GT 7 smartphone. Both devices are expected to launch this month.

OPPO sees a bit of itself in this major Android 16 upgrade, and it's hard to disagree

Google is bringing a new multitasking feature to Android 16, and even OPPO is giving it some credit. The new system, which introduces a 90:10 split-screen layout, looks very similar to a multitasking idea OPPO has been using since 2023. That feature, known as "Boundless View" on OPPO phones and "Open Canvas" on the OnePlus Open, allows apps to sit partially off the screen. Users can switch between them by tapping the visible edge of the app, making multitasking feel smoother and less restricted than traditional split-screen modes. Android 16 's version works a bit differently, but the idea is similar. The update allows one app to stay mostly in view (taking up 90 percent of the screen), while the second app remains in a slim portion along the edge. This setup lets users switch between the two more easily, without fully closing either app. The new multitasking layout has been spotted in early Android 16 beta builds, including Samsung's One UI 8 beta. It's not currently available on Pixel phones, but that could change in future updates. The first Android 16 QPR1 beta went live on May 20, with more features likely to arrive as testing continues. After some online speculation about OPPO's role in this change, the company issued a statement to clarify. An OPPO executive had suggested on Weibo that the company may have helped bring this feature to Android, but OPPO later told Android Authority that it had no direct involvement. Instead, OPPO said Google's feature "draws inspiration" from its own Boundless View, calling it "a similar feature." And with OPPO offering praise instead of criticism, it seems the company is more interested in pushing multitasking forward than claiming ownership of the idea.

Pre-order the OnePlus Pad 3 powerhouse today and score two killer gifts worth a small fortune!

Powered by a cutting-edge Snapdragon 8 Elite processor and equipped with a generously sized 13.2-inch screen capable of playing videos and games at a silky smooth 144Hz refresh rate, the OnePlus Pad 3 might just be the best Android tablet money can buy in the US right now. Of course, the hot new Android 15-running giant doesn't come cheap, fetching $699.99 in a single 256GB storage variant that also packs a respectable 12GB RAM count, but if you hurry, you can substantially sweeten the OnePlus Pad 3 launch deal with two decidedly handy (and impressively valuable) freebies. 256GB Storage, 12GB RAM, 13.2-Inch IPS LCD Screen with 3392 x 2400 Pixel Resolution and 144Hz Refresh Rate Technology, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Processor, Android 15, 13MP Rear-Facing Camera, 8MP Front-Facing Camera, Eight Speaker Sound System, 12,140mAh Battery, 80W Charging Capabilities, Storm Blue Color, Free Smart Keyboard and OnePlus Stylo 2 Included Pre-order at OnePlus Early OnePlus Pad 3 adopters stateside are actually free to choose two out of three available gifts, but as long as they don't go out of stock, the company's Smart Keyboard and Stylo 2 are clearly much more appealing than the $50-worth Folio Case. The keyboard accessory (that also includes a protective cover) and the second-gen OnePlus pen are normally priced at $199.99 and $99.99 respectively by themselves, which means that you're currently looking at saving a whopping 300 bucks on a high-end tablet setup capable of replacing your conventional laptop. The amazing value you can get here for a limited time undeniably exceeds what a $999.99 Samsung Galaxy Tab S10+ typically offers, and if you don't mind the slightly smaller screen, the OnePlus Pad 3 is an objectively better deal than a $1,199.99 and up Galaxy Tab S10 Ultra as well. As for the question that's probably on a lot of Apple fans' minds right now, yes, our in-depth OnePlus Pad 3 review also suggests this is a very worthy rival to the latest and greatest iPad Pros out there, although I'm not sure I would go so far as to describe the 13.2-inch Android super-flagship as better than its direct 13-inch M4 competitor. Available in a single Storm Blue colorway, the OnePlus Pad 3 will be sold alongside these ultra-nice gifts until July 15... or while supplies last, so bargain hunters should probably hurry and secure their early copy at a potentially unbeatable (bundle) price.
