‘Sesame Street' moves in with Netflix, but will stay on PBS
Starting later this year, new episodes will run on Netflix, PBS and the PBS Kids app on the same day. No specific premiere date was immediately announced. Select past episodes will be available on Netflix worldwide.
The change for the more than 50-year-old show comes after
Warner Bros. Discovery
— which had aired
the show since 2016
— last year decided not to renew its deal for new episodes that air on HBO and Max, though episodes will remain there until 2027.
'This unique public-private partnership will enable us to bring our research-based curriculum to young children around the world with Netflix's global reach, while ensuring children in communities across the U.S. continue to have free access on public television to the 'Sesame Street' they love,' Sesame Workshop said in its press release.
Sal Perez, the show's executive producer and a Sesame Workshop vice president,
told The Associated Press recently
that segments on the new season will be longer and 'really focused on character,' while also focusing on its audience's emotional well-being and development.
For Season 56, episodes will revolve around one 11-minute story, the Netflix release said.
'The more kids want to hang out with our characters on 'Sesame Street,' the more they're going to take in those lessons,' said Perez, adding that there would also be updates to the show's look and feel. The new season will also feature more exploration of the 'Sesame Street' neighborhood and a look inside the legendary two-story brownstone at 123 Sesame Street that houses Elmo, Bert and Ernie and more.
'I strongly believe that our educational programming for children is one of the most important aspects of our service to the American people, and 'Sesame Street' has been an integral part of that critical work for more than half a century,' said Paula Kerger, president and CEO of PBS. 'We're proud to continue our partnership in the pursuit of having a profound impact on the lives of children for years to come.'
'Sesame Street' has been shown in more than 150 countries, amassing more than 200 Emmys in addition to Grammy and Peabody awards and a Kennedy Center Honor for lifetime artistic achievement. Its fan-favorite characters like Oscar the Grouch, Big Bird and the Cookie Monster will now reside along the likes of Ms. Rachel, Blippi and the residents of 'CoComelon Lane.' Netflix says 'Kids and Family' programming makes up 15% of the streamer's total viewing.

Jake Paul vs. Gervonta 'Tank' Davis reportedly set for big-money Netflix exhibition match
Netflix may soon be hosting another major boxing event. The sports streaming service, which boasts 300 million subscribers and will televise the Sept. 13 battle of pound-for-pound greats between Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and Terence Crawford, began its boxing journey with Jake Paul's controversial fight with Mike Tyson this past November in Arlington, Texas, and now looks to play host to another contentious but money-spinning Paul showdown. Ring Magazine reported Wednesday that Paul will face Gervonta "Tank" Davis in a Netflix exhibition boxing match at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, on Nov. 15 — one year to the day from his bout with Tyson. The report follows a now-deleted post from the official Netflix Turkey account with the same details. Uncrowned has learned that the reported venue is currently booked for Nate Bargatze's "Big Dumb Eyes" tour on Nov. 15. Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) was in talks to face the former unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua next, but the bout has reportedly collapsed due to network issues. The internet star turned boxer defeated his second former world champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., in June by unanimous decision in California to earn his first world ranking. It was widely believed that Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs) would rematch Lamont Roach on Aug. 16 after the pair fought to a controversial draw this past March, following Davis' infamous kneel-down controversy. The two-division champion, however, was forced to trade a fight date for a court date after being arrested for a misdemeanor battery-domestic violence charge in July, after his ex-girlfriend accused him of striking her on the back of her head and slapping her at an alleged altercation on June 15. The charge was dropped this past week after the alleged victim refused to prosecute. Roach told Boxing Scene — the media outlet owned by his co-promoter ProBoxTV — that he was "moving on" from a rematch with "Tank" on Friday, as he believed Davis' camp wasn't interested in an immediate rematch. Paul vs. Davis could be compelling viewing, as although Davis is vastly more experienced than Paul, he will likely enter the ring at a 50-pound-plus size disadvantage.

The Thursday Murder Club': The Verdict On Each Character And Cast Member
The typical murder mystery that crime thriller fans know and love typically sees a temperamental detective lead a team of officers on a murder case, from their base at police headquarters. Netflix's The Thursday Murder Club is anything but, yet promises to be a fan-favourite upon its release on August 22. The film, which is based on the best-selling book by Richard Osman, follows a group of friends living in Cooper Chase Retirement Village, as they meet every Thursday to solve a mixture of cold cases in their local area. Suddenly, the group are thrust into the heart of a real case, and will stop at nothing to solve the crime, even if it means making enemies along the way. Filled with a star-studded cast including Helen Mirren, Naomi Ackie, David Tennant, Ben Kingsley and more, we break down the roles of the main cast members, and the parts they'll play in solving the cases. Who is Elizabeth Best? As the head of the Thursday Murder Club, Elizabeth leaves no stone unturned, thanks to her sharp eye for investigating cold cases. She's often at the forefront of the mysteries, rallying the group together and even coming face to face with dangerous suspects. What else has Helen Mirren starred in? Dame Helen Mirren has starred in numerous award-winning films and television series including The Queen, Gosford Park and 1923. Who is Ron Ritchie? Ron Ritchie is a strong-willed former union activist who is a member of the Thursday Murder club. While he may appear blunt, he works well alongside the other members of the group and is extremely loyal. What else has Pierce Brosnan starred in? A former James Bond, Brosnan has starred in GoldenEye, The King's Daughter and The Out-Laws. Who is Ibrahim Arif? A former psychiatrist, he is one of the core members of the club who binds the group together thanks to his calm and collected attitude. What else has Ben Kingsley starred in? With a career spanning decades, he has previously featured in As You Like It, Anne Frank: The Whole Story and Mrs. Harris and more. Who is Joyce Meadowcroft? Previously a nurse, Joyce is the club's newest member. Although her kind demeanour may initially fool you, she's just as sharp and strong-willed as the other members. What else has Celia Imrie starred in? Celia is best known for starring in Nanny McPhee, Bridget Jones's Diary and Better Things. Who is Ian Ventham? He is the assertive and rather villainous owner of the retirement village, who clearly cares little for the residents. In the trailer Ian can be heard saying that he's, 'not worried about the cantankerous old farts', which points to him being a potential ally to the club's opposers. What else has David Tennant starred in? He is best known for starring Dr Who, Broadchurch and Jessica Jones. Who is DCI Chris Hudson? He is the detective chief inspector on the case, and PC Donna De Freitas' (see below) boss. As the Thursday Murder Club digs further into the cases, DCI Chris Hudson's frustration against the group begins to deepen. In the trailer, he can be seen yelling, 'police work is off-limits to anyone who isn't the police!' to the members. What else has Daniel Mays starred in? Prior to Thursday Murder Club he has starred in Line of Duty, Outcasts and Vera Drake. Who is Bogdan? He is a young man of Polish descent who supports the club in their key investigations. While not much is known about his role, his alliance with the group may serve them well in their time of need. What else has Henry Lloyd-Hughes starred in? He has previously starred in Unrelated, Weekender and Parade's End. Who is PC Donna De Freitas? She is a local police officer who joins forces with the Thursday Murder Club, as their insider who gives the team confidential information regarding their cold cases. It's likely that due to this, she'll be at odds with her boss DCI Chris Hudson and Ian Ventham. What else has Naomi Ackie starred in? Naomi is best known for starring in The End of the F***ing World, Blink Twice and Mickey 17.

‘KPop Demon Hunters' Manages A Rare Streaming Feat
Every week, when the Billboard charts are published again, the songs from KPop Demon Hunters get bigger and bigger. The soundtrack has only been out for about two months, and in that time it has become one of the most successful in American history. Multiple tracks penned specifically for Netflix's animated feature have reached historic highs on a number of tallies. Streaming activity continues to push the tunes, as well as the soundtrack itself, to loftier and more impressive positions. KPop Demon Hunters dominates Billboard's Streaming Songs chart this week — and not just because its lead single appears at No. 1. 'What It Sounds Like" Reaches the Top 10 'What It Sounds Like,' from the KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack, enters the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart for the first time as it dances from No. 11 to No. 10. That ascent is a minor one, but a very important one, as the album it's featured on manages an incredible showing on one of Billboard's most competitive rosters. KPop Demon Hunters Fills Half of the Top 10 As 'What It Sounds Like' improves and hits the top 10, tracks from KPop Demon Hunters fill half of all the spaces inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs ranking. Five tunes featured on the soundtrack now appear inside the region, which is relatively uncommon for any full-length — even those by superstars — and especially so when it comes to movie soundtracks. 'Golden' Holds at No. 1 'Golden' is once again the No. 1 most-streamed track in America. Including 'What It Sounds Like,' four other KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack cuts don't just live inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart, they climb to never-before-seen highs, as 'Your Idol,' 'Soda Pop,' and 'How It's Done' lift to Nos. 3 and 6, respectively. 'Free' and 'Takedown' May Reach the Top 10 Soon The album almost commands even more real estate inside the top 10 on the Streaming Songs chart, and in the coming weeks, the 50% that it claims at the moment could grow. Two other KPop Demon Hunters tunes, 'Free' and 'Takedown,' appear just beneath the uppermost tier as those tracks step up to Nos. 11 and 12, respectively. Hunter/X and Saja Boys Rule All of the songs on the KPop Demon Hunters album are credited to both fictional groups made up for the movie — Hunter/X and Saja Boys — as well as the actors and singers who contribute vocals. Each one of the tunes manages to reach a new peak on at least one or two Billboard lists as well, and while 'Golden' can't climb on several rankings, fellow smashes like 'How It's Done,' 'What It Sounds Like,' 'Takedown,' 'Your Idol,' 'Soda Pop,' and 'Free' all make it to new best showings on the Hot 100 and various other rosters as interest in the Sony Animation project only continues to grow.
