Next up, the Cardinals (33-26) travel home to host their neighbors and rivals, the Kansas City Royals (31-29). St. Louis comes into the contest coming off a road series loss to the Texas Rangers.
The Royals enter having lost three-straight series against the Detroit Tigers, Cincinnati Reds and Minnesota Twins. With the team falling down the standings, manager Matt Quatraro decided it was time to call up No.1 prospect Jac Caglianone.

Storylines to watch for:
1. Royals' Jac Caglianone expected to make MLB Debut
The Royals called up Jac Caglianone on Monday morning after selecting him with the sixth overall pick in the 2024 Draft. Caglianone is the No. 10 overall prospect in baseball and he has been dominating the Double-A and Triple-A scene. Will the Cardinals starters be able to keep the young power-hitter at bay?

2. Rivalry Weekend Rematch
After facing off during MLB's first ever 'Rivalry Weekend' last month, both teams are hungry to stay in the playoff hunt. The Cardinals took the three-game series in Kansas City 2-1, and after a series victory over the Giants, the Royals have struggled to find their footing.
No matter what, these teams are going to put up a strong fight against each other, but will the Cardinals stay hot? Or will the Royals break their losing ways?
3. Battle of the 'Best-Kept Secret' Pitchers
This matchup features two of Bleacher Report's 'Best-Kept Secrets for 2025 Season': Cardinals reliever Kyle Leahy and Royals rookie starter Noah Cameron.

Leahy has posted a 2.32 ERA over 31 innings as a reliable late-inning option, while Cameron owns a 1.05 ERA through four starts since his April call-up. Neither entered 2025 with fanfare, but both are now key arms on two of the league's most surprising teams.

Washington Nationals vs Kansas City Royals Game Thread
While the Nationals have shown some fight, they have come up short in their first two games in Kansas City. They just have not quite had the pitching to get the job done. Now they look to avoid the sweep as they wrap up the road trip. Miguel Cairo has made a couple changes to his lineup. After a couple days off, the struggling Brady House will be back in the lineup. Drew Millas will also get the start behind the dish today. Robert Hassell III will remain in center field over Jacob Young. Jake Irvin will get the ball for the final game of this series. With a righty on the mound, Mike Yastrzemski will be back in the leadoff spot. John Rave will also get a start in the outfield. Otherwise, it is a very familiar lineup for the Royals, who are fighting for their playoff lives. Their ace Seth Lugo will be on the mound. Game Info: Stadium: Kauffman Stadium Time: 2:10 PM EST TV: MASN 2 Radio: 106.7 The Fan and DC 87.7 While they have not gotten blown out, the Nats have been unable to get the job done in Kansas City so far. Now, they will try to avoid a sweep. It has been a solid road trip so far, but a sweep would be demoralizing. Comment your Nationals related thoughts down below.

Cardinals' Willson Contreras out of lineup with foot injury after being hit by pitch
ST. LOUIS — St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras was not in the lineup against the Colorado Rockies a day after he was hit in the foot by a pitch and broke his bat in frustration. Contreras, listed as day-to-day with a right foot contusion, was hit by Rockies starter Kyle Freeland's 0-2 sweeper in the fourth inning. He then slammed his bat into the dirt and snapped it over his knee. As he walked toward first base, the 33-year-old threw the two pieces of the broken bat toward the Cardinals' dugout. He remained in the game until the sixth inning, when he was replaced by Nolan Gorman. The Cardinals said X-rays did not reveal any structural damage in Contreras' foot. Contreras has been hit by a National League-leading 18 pitches this season, trailing only Randy Arozarena and Ty France. Contreras leads the Cardinals with 16 home runs and 65 RBIs.

James Conner fantasy football preview 2025: Stats, season outlook, predictions
Rotoworld Staff, James Conner 2025 Fantasy Preview 2024: Conner appeared in 16 games for the first time in his eight-year career, generating a new personal-best 1,094 yards rushing. He also caught his most passes since 2018 (47), pairing those accomplishments with nine total touchdowns to finish as the RB15 by average PPR points. It wasn't necessarily supposed to be that way, but hyped third-round rookie Trey Benson never got out of neutral. What's changed: Conner was rewarded for his efforts with a mid-season extension. Benson is talking up being 'more explosive' after gaining seven pounds during the offseason, but Conner remains Option A on all the downs that matter most. Outlook: The Cardinals figure to be careful with Conner's workloads, but that means making sure he's in the 16-18 touch range. That is more than enough to support a weekly RB2 role, even if his receptions total regresses back to the 35-40 range. Conner's long injury history does mean fantasy drafters should consider nabbing Benson later on if given the opportunity at or below ADP.
