Lexi Minetree Reveals Advice Reese Witherspoon Offered Her for ‘Legally Blonde' Prequel ‘Elle'
Lexi Minetree is grateful she has Reese Witherspoon in her corner while filming the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series Elle.
"She's just the best. She's so warm and so caring," Minetree, 23, who plays the younger version of Witherspoon's character, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Amazon Upfronts on Monday, May 12. "She's always checking in with me."
Minetree felt thankful for the support Witherspoon, 49, has shown her, adding, "[She's] making sure I'm drinking enough water, making sure I'm getting enough rest and making sure I'm just taking in every moment, which I really appreciate. She's amazing."
While preparing to embody the role of Elle Woods, Minetree recalled watching the original movie "over 50 times."
What to Know About Prime Video's 'Legally Blonde' Prequel 'Elle': Returning Cast Members and More
"As for making it my own, one of the directors, Jason Moore, said something that really stuck with me. He said, 'Do the work, do the prep and then throw it away and let your instinct take over,'" she shared with Us. "That's really what I've tried to take to heart and add my own little thing to it."
Based on Amanda Brown's novel, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde introduced Us to Elle Woods (Witherspoon), a sorority girl who attempted to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) by attending Harvard Law School. Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber and Jennifer Coolidge rounded out the cast, which inspired a second movie two years later.
News broke in 2018 that Witherspoon had teamed up with Mindy Kaling for Legally Blonde 3 — but there has been no real update since. Instead, the focus has shifted to Prime Video's prequel series Elle, which according to the official synopsis follows the titular character in high school as "we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film. In other words, get ready for the teen years of this legendary lawyer's story."
"Elle is in high school so she's still trying to figure out who she is as a person," Minetree teased on Monday. "She definitely loves fashion, just like she did in the movie. But again, I think what audiences are going to love is [that] she really gets to discover herself during this time."
A Guide to Every 'Legally Blonde' Spinoff and Sequel: From Movies to Broadway
Joining the project has made Minetree even more appreciative of Elle's favorite color, adding, "I do think I definitely need to love pink now but I've always enjoyed it, which I think is a good thing."
As for who from the original movie Minetree would like to see make a cameo? "I would love it if Jennifer Coolidge can make an appearance," she noted. "She's just the best. Who doesn't love Jennifer Coolidge?"
In addition to Minetree, Elle's parents will be played by June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott. Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano and Jacob Moskovitz were also announced as series regulars.
Elle will premiere in summer 2026 on Prime Video.

7 tense thrillers on Prime Video with 100% Rotten Tomatoes scores you can't miss
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. There's plenty for Prime Video subscribers to enjoy, with lots to look forward to in the future, but with such an expansive library, some of the best movies can be easy to miss, and that's where we come in. For fans of thrillers, one of the best streaming services out there has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to gripping movies new and old, from classic nail-biters to some of most suspenseful films of recent years. But to save you hours of scrolling through titles on the service, we've got you, with our breakdown of seven of the tensest thrillers and best Prime Video movies, all of which boast perfect Rotten Tomatoes scores. Runtime: 87 minutesMain cast: Colin Egglesfield, Gideon Emery, Heidi Johanningmeier, Yancey Arias, Chris J. JohnsonDirector: Ravin Gandhi Released to festivals in 2019, 100 Days to Live didn't get a wide release until it hit streaming in 2021, but once it arrived, it did so with plenty of awards recognition and critical acclaim. The plot is reminiscent of the sort of '90s mid-budget thriller you don't see much anymore, following psychologist Rebecca Church (Heidi Johanningmeier) as her fiancé is abducted by a serial killer known as 'The Savior'. Working alongside detectives, Rebecca learns that the killer may be someone long thought dead. The film has been praised for its discussion of mental health, suicide and depression, with critic Nicki Swift saying: 'It's unusual to find a thriller that explores suicide with such a delicate hand.' Runtime: 88 minutesMain cast: Eric Tabach, Giorgia Whigham, Larry Fessenden, Zachary Booth, Guillian Gioiello, Noa FisherDirector: Christian Nilsson A modern take on the surveillance thrillers of old, Dashcam brings the genre bang up to date and into the world of ever-present recording devices and conspiracy culture. Dashcam follows Jake (Eric Tabach), a video editor at a local news channel tasked with working on footage of a routine traffic stop that resulted in the death of a police officer and a political official. When he's sent dashcam footage that seems to dispute the official sequence of events, Jake falls down a rabbit hole of trying to uncover the truth. Critics have praised the film's ingenious use of its low budget, melding the 'screenlife' genre (Host, Searching) with conventional techniques. Critic Alexandra Heller-Nicholas called it 'an extraordinary low-budget political thriller that does a lot with a little, and is a masterclass that sometimes, having the guts to punch above its weight can pay off just through sheer audacity alone.' Runtime: 89 minutesMain cast: Anton Walbrook, Diana WynyardDirector: Thorold Dickinson The film that inspired the phrase. The recipient of a big-budget MGM remake just four years after its release, this original version is the one you want to see. 20 years after a woman is murdered by an unknown assailant while he's searching her house, a pair of newlyweds Bella (Diana Wynyward) and Paul (Anton Walbrook) move into the long empty abode. Not long after their arrival, Bella begins to find herself misplacing things and noticing strange occurrences, including the dimming of the house's gas lamps. Paul insists nothing is wrong and perhaps Bella is losing her mind, but as anyone familiar with the modern discourse will know, the sketchy husband may have a hand in the bizarre events. Comparing the movie to its Hollywood remake, Time Out called it 'a superior film by far,' while critic Leonard Maltin praised its 'electrifying atmosphere, delicious performances and succinctly conveyed sense of madness.' Runtime: 103 minutesMain cast: Chris Marquette, Nora-Jane Noone, Manny MontanaDirector: Dustin Cook Not a film you may have heard of, perhaps, but a one worth checking out. Part rom-com, part thriller, part horror, I Hate the Man in My Basement is a genre-bending treat. Written and directed by Dustin Cook, the film focuses on Claude (Chris Marquette), who, still grieving the loss of his wife, agrees to a blind date with Kyra (Nora-Jane Noone). The pair hit it off and Claude decides its time to try and move forward with a new relationship, except for one problem… yes, it's that old chestnut, there's a man held captive in his basement. One for fans of darkly comic thrillers, critics have called this one a movie that 'explores the dark side of humanity' (Culture Mix) and 'finds humor in the most difficult places' (Eye for Film). Runtime: 107 minutesMain cast: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, Paul WinfieldDirector: James Cameron The film that kicked off both one of sci-fi's most enduring franchises and the career of filmmaker James Cameron, as well as propelling Arnold Schwarzenegger into the stratosphere, The Terminator needs very little introduction. For those new to the film, it follows Sarah Connor, an LA waitress stalked by a murderous time-travelling cyborg whose sole mission is to assassinate her and prevent the birth of her son John, who will one day lead the rebellion against the machines. With only Michael Biehn's Kyle Reese – one of John's soldiers sent back to protect his mother – between her and Schwarzenegger's terrifying killer, what follows is an unbearably tense chase through the city as the Terminator stops at nothing to complete its mission. Despite the sequels that followed, The Spectator calls the original 'engrossing, suspenseful [...] and absolutely stands the test of time,' while Total Film say its 'A nerve-bludgeoning, relentlessly exciting action movie masterpiece.' Runtime: 153 minutesMain cast: Yves Montand, Charles Vanel, Folco Lulli, Peter Van Eyck, Véra ClouzotDirector: Henri-Georges Clouzot Remade twice and even inspiring an episode of The Mandalorian, The Wages of Fear can often be found atop lists of the tensest films ever made. From legendary director Henri-Georges Clouzot and adapted from Georges Arnaud's novel of the same name, the film follows a group of four out-of-work men who are hired by an oil company to drive two trucks loaded with highly unstable nitroglycerin across mountainous terrain. The setup may sound simple, but knowing the payload could explode at any moment from the slightest mistake makes for a nail-biting runtime. Add to that a deadly developing rivalry between the crews of both trucks and you've got yourself an all-time classic thriller. Time Out commented on how the film builds on the suspense created by the likes of Hitchcock and Welles before, calling the film 'Hitch's bomb-under-the-table suspense formula burnished to an expert sheen.' And if you have any doubts this is one of the most edge-of-your-seat flicks out there, FilmWeek summarized the picture, saying 'your blood pressure will go up to dangerous levels while watching this.' Runtime: 116 minutesMain cast: Tyrone Power, Marlene Dietrich, Charles Laughton, Elsa Lanchester, John WilliamsDirector: Billy Wilder No thriller list would be complete without the Queen of Crime, and Witness for the Prosecution is one of the finest Agatha Christie adaptations out there. Directed by classic Hollywood icon Billy Wilder, the film tells the story of Leonard Vole (Tyrone Power), a man on trial for the murder of a wealthy woman. He has a solid alibi, but it depends on the testimony of his estranged wife Christine (Marlene Dietrich), who, far from being the support he needs, decides to testify against him. What follows is a gripping courtroom drama, full of intrigue, shocking revelations and surprising reversals. Despite a number of further adaptations, Slant Magazine call Wilder's version 'an alchemic triumph of effortless story execution, pinpoint humour and an acting masterclass' while Film Frenzy say it's 'the greatest of all the Agatha Christie adaptations that have been brought to the screen.' Prime Video reveals Gen V season 2 release date, and its first trailer reveals how it might set the stage for The Boys season 5
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Prime Video has set a launch date for Gen V season 2 The Boys' highly rated spin-off will return in mid-September Its first trailer addresses one of the show's most heart-breaking mysteries Amazon has finally confirmed when Gen V season 2 will be released on Prime Video. The Boys' highly rated spin-off, the first season of which currently holds a 97% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, will make its debut on September 17, 2025. The live-action series' launch date was announced at Mexico Comic-Con 2025 (CCXP) on Saturday, May 31. Like many other Amazon TV Originals, Gen V's second season will launch with a three-episode premiere. The remaining five chapters will air weekly after that until its finale on October 22. As for who'll be back on campus for the series' sophomore outing, Jaz Sinclair returns as protagonist Marie Moreau. Lizze Broadway's Emma Meyer, Maddie Phillips' Cate Dunlap, London Thor/Derek Luh's Jordan Li, Asa Germann's Sam Riordan, and Sean Patrick Thomas' Polarity are also set to return. They'll be joined by Hamish Linklater, who's the first newcomer to be announced for one of the best Prime Video shows' next chapter. The Midnight Mass and Batman: Caped Crusader actor on board as Cipher, aka Goldolkin University's new and morally complicated Dean. Major spoilers follow for Gen V season 1. To answer that query, we'll turn our attention to the first trailer and official plot brief for Gen V season 2. Let's deal with the trailer first. Surprisingly, it confirms that Marie, Jordan and Emma will be reinstated as students at Godolkin University. As my Gen V season 1 ending explainer, well, explained, the trio were imprisoned by Vought for their part in the chaos that engulfed their Supes-only college in last season's finale. Before The Boys season 4 aired, I'd predicted that's where they would remain until the titular Supe-bashers broke them out of jail. Given how The Boys season 4 ended, though, that scenario is, at the time of writing, highly unlikely to happen. So, why has this trio been released, and how does Gen V season 2 tie into events of The Boys' fourth installment? To answer those questions, may I point you in the direction in Gen V 2's story synopsis. "In season 2, school is back in session," it reads. "As the rest of America adjusts to Homelander's iron fist, back at Godolkin University, the mysterious new Dean preaches a curriculum that promises to make students more powerful than ever. Cate and Sam are celebrated heroes, while Marie, Jordan, and Emma reluctantly return to college, burdened by months of trauma and loss. "But, parties and classes are hard to care about with war brewing between Humans and Supes, both on and off campus," it continues. "The gang learns of a secret program that goes back to the founding of Godolkin University that may have larger implications than they realize. And, somehow, Marie is a part of it." So, Gen V's second season will deal with the fallout from its predecessor and The Boys' fourth installment. It'll address why Andre, aka the high-school Supe played by Chance Perdomo in season 1, won't return as well. Perdomo died in March 2024 following a motorbike accident but, rather than recast Andre, Gen V's creative team tweaked this season's story to explain what happened to Andre off-screen. Based on what the teaser shows, it'll be one of this season's most emotional subplots, too. Throw in Cipher's plan to create a new army of Supes who'll answer to the tyrannical Homelander, the potential for this so-called secret program to be integral to the main show's final season, and cameos from The Boys – Firecracker makes a brief appearance in season 2's initial trailer – and Gen V season 2 looks like it'll be a highly charged affair ahead of The Boys season 5's eventual launch. With filming on the latter series ongoing, its arrival on one of the world's best streaming services isn't likely to happen until 2026. Prime Video puts a Supernatural spin on The Boys season 5 cast as Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins sign on to the popular show in mystery roles Stranger Things season 5 release dates have been revealed, and Netflix has turned my 2025 festive season plans upside down Learn more about Invincible season 4 with our help
