Lexi Minetree Reveals Advice Reese Witherspoon Offered Her for ‘Legally Blonde' Prequel ‘Elle'

Yahoo16-05-2025

Lexi Minetree is grateful she has Reese Witherspoon in her corner while filming the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series Elle.
"She's just the best. She's so warm and so caring," Minetree, 23, who plays the younger version of Witherspoon's character, exclusively told Us Weekly at the Amazon Upfronts on Monday, May 12. "She's always checking in with me."
Minetree felt thankful for the support Witherspoon, 49, has shown her, adding, "[She's] making sure I'm drinking enough water, making sure I'm getting enough rest and making sure I'm just taking in every moment, which I really appreciate. She's amazing."
While preparing to embody the role of Elle Woods, Minetree recalled watching the original movie "over 50 times."

"As for making it my own, one of the directors, Jason Moore, said something that really stuck with me. He said, 'Do the work, do the prep and then throw it away and let your instinct take over,'" she shared with Us. "That's really what I've tried to take to heart and add my own little thing to it."
Based on Amanda Brown's novel, the 2001 movie Legally Blonde introduced Us to Elle Woods (Witherspoon), a sorority girl who attempted to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner (Matthew Davis) by attending Harvard Law School. Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, Victor Garber and Jennifer Coolidge rounded out the cast, which inspired a second movie two years later.
News broke in 2018 that Witherspoon had teamed up with Mindy Kaling for Legally Blonde 3 — but there has been no real update since. Instead, the focus has shifted to Prime Video's prequel series Elle, which according to the official synopsis follows the titular character in high school as "we learn about the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we came to know and love in the first Legally Blonde film. In other words, get ready for the teen years of this legendary lawyer's story."
"Elle is in high school so she's still trying to figure out who she is as a person," Minetree teased on Monday. "She definitely loves fashion, just like she did in the movie. But again, I think what audiences are going to love is [that] she really gets to discover herself during this time."

Joining the project has made Minetree even more appreciative of Elle's favorite color, adding, "I do think I definitely need to love pink now but I've always enjoyed it, which I think is a good thing."
As for who from the original movie Minetree would like to see make a cameo? "I would love it if Jennifer Coolidge can make an appearance," she noted. "She's just the best. Who doesn't love Jennifer Coolidge?"
In addition to Minetree, Elle's parents will be played by June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott. Chandler Kinney, Gabrielle Policano and Jacob Moskovitz were also announced as series regulars.
Elle will premiere in summer 2026 on Prime Video.

Screenwriter Discusses Rush To Bring Prime Video's The Elevator Boys Movie to Life — Seriencamp

Going up… ideas for the upcoming movie with The Elevator Boys for Prime Video needed to come together fast. The film with the German social media stars turned boy band is now in production. Juliana Lima Dehne, who wrote the screenplay, told a Seriencamp crowd she had only days to turn around the original ideas for the story. Lima Dehne was speaking at a session about European writers' rooms at the Seriencamp confab in Cologne, Germany, and gave the backstory. Chu & Sydney Sweeney 'When Amazon [and the producers] asked me to work on this and come up with ideas to pitch, because they had a deal with The Elevator Boys, I said okay, that's great. They said: We want at least five ideas, completely separate from each other, and because of the time, and because they are travelling the world, we need to present them next week.' Lima Dehne, whose credits include hit German series Maxton Hall, said that given the tight turnaround, she quickly put together a mini writers' room to brainstorm ideas. The as-yet-untitled movie will follow a fictional group played by the real-life German boy band, whose members are: Bene Schulz, Jacob Rott, Julien Brown, Luis Freitag, and Tim Schaecker. 'I brought in two writers whom I adore and I work really well with, and we were just viewing ideas for these five pitches so that The Elevator Boys, ultimately, could pick one to develop into a movie,' Lima Dehne explained. The elevator pitch evidently worked. Cameras rolled on the pic in March with filming in Malta and elsewhere in Europe. W&B Television, the prolific German producer that is part of Leonine Studios is making the film, in association with Amazon MGM Studios Germany for Prime Video. Prime Video is on a tear with younger-skewing drama. Add in the huge following The Elevator Boys have on social and hopes are high for their movie. Kate Middleton stands firm with Prince William as doors 'shut' on Prince Harry: expert

Kate Middleton reportedly has zero plans to reach out to Prince Harry for peace talks, choosing instead to stand by her husband, Prince William. An unnamed source recently told Us Weekly that the Prince and Princess of Wales "just don't understand why Harry doesn't stay quiet" after his royal exit. But Kinsey Schofield, host of the "To Di For Daily" podcast, told Fox News Digital that the royal couple feel differently, according to her sources. "Catherine has been nothing but supportive of her husband – and that's exactly why Prince William is so deeply hurt," Schofield explained. "His pain doesn't come from personal insults or headlines. It comes from his instinct to protect the woman he loves… But what cuts the deepest is Harry's treatment of Catherine. She's always loved him, always treated him like a little brother. That's the betrayal William won't forget… But Harry never seems to think about the consequences." British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard claimed to Fox News Digital that the mother of three had been "saddened" by the fallout between William and her brother-in-law. Still, she won't be getting involved. "Catherine and Harry shared a fun humor and were often seen giggling together at events," Chard explained. "Sadly and upsettingly, Princess Catherine was dragged into the public negative narrative which was a real smack round the face for the kind sister-in-law who tried hard to be the peacemaker between the brothers." Fox News Digital reached out to Kensington Palace for comment. Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, stepped back as senior royals and moved to California, citing the unbearable intrusions of the British press and a lack of support from the palace. Since their departure, the couple have aired their grievances in interviews, podcasts as well as Harry's 2023 memoir "Spare," which caused further estrangement between the prince and his family. In his book, Harry laid bare embarrassing details about the House of Windsor and wrote candidly of his sibling rivalry with William, heir to the British throne. Previously in 2021, Meghan claimed to Oprah Winfrey in a televised interview viewed by nearly 50 million people globally that it was Kate who made her cry leading up to her wedding in 2018. A source told Us Weekly that Kate, 43, was "scarred" by Meghan's interview. "The reframing of events upset her, and making up a narrative that Kate is mean was devastating," the source claimed. "She can't retaliate, and Meghan knows that." Chard told Fox News Digital that while Kate and Meghan, 43, don't have much in common, the Princess of Wales was supportive of Harry finding love. "Princess Catherine was happy when Prince Harry met Meghan," Chard explained. "She was thrilled that Prince Harry seemed genuinely happy… The three musketeers became the 'Fab Four'… Princess Catherine [silently] cannot understand why Prince Harry still won't bite his tongue and continues his destructive path." Royal experts have told Fox News Digital that William and Harry are not on speaking terms. Sources close to Harry previously told People magazine that King Charles III, their father, won't respond to Harry's phone calls or letters. "As time moved on, the Sussexes aired more and more allegations, grievances and untruths against members of the British royal family," said Chard. "While battling ill health, Princess Catherine sprung into protection mode. Her goals have been protecting the crown, future-proofing the monarchy, [honoring] the late Queen Elizabeth II's legacy and protecting her children from Prince Harry's hurtful commentary." Schofield claimed that after Harry mentioned Kate in his book, there was no turning back for William. "Harry published a word-for-word text exchange between Meghan and Catherine, dragging private family moments into the public square," said Schofield. "William can take the punches Harry throws at him – the dog bowl, the breaking of Harry's necklace – trivial… [But] Harry effectively sent the online mob after William and Catherine… [And] Catherine has had a tough two years between cancer and this ongoing drama." Thankfully for William and the rest of the royal household, "Catherine is focusing on staying happy and healthy," said Schofield. British royals expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that the Prince and Princess of Wales have put on a united front – especially after Harry recently declared in a BBC interview that he wants reconciliation with his family. "Princess Catherine and Prince Harry's relationship has dramatically deteriorated over recent years," Fordwich claimed. "There is a huge sense of betrayal and broader frustration, as well as a massive cultural clash. How Harry has changed under the influence of Meghan Markle has been baffling both to the royal family and beyond." "Prince William and Princess Catherine are upholding traditional royal discretion and dedicating themselves to duty, while Harry's public disclosures, especially in his whingefest 'Spare,' and numerous interviews have been deeply damaging, as well as totally unnecessary," Fordwich shared. "Catherine, in particular, is deeply wounded by Harry's media disclosures airing family grievances and betraying any family loyalty while dismissing royal values. Catherine was once the peacemaker between the feuding brothers. She often encouraged William to reconcile." "However, after years of futile efforts, she has now thrown her hands up in disgust, stepping back from any role of attempting to mediate a reconciliation since the rift between the brothers kept widening," Fordwich claimed. "She and William are now totally at one regarding hypocritical Harry. She's far more focused on her health and family. She's rather hurt." Kate and Harry's relationship wasn't always strained, the experts stressed. In "Spare," Harry described Kate as "a fantastic girl." "I'm really looking forward to getting her under my wing," he's quoted as saying. "She'll be taking me under her wing, probably." "I loved my new sister-in-law," he wrote in his book. "I felt she was more sister than in-law, the sister I'd never had and always wanted, and I was pleased that she'd forever be standing by Willy's side. They made each other visibly happy, and therefore I was happy too." He also wrote about their first time meeting, saying she was "carefree, sweet [and] kind." "She'd done a gap year in Florence, knew about photography, art," he recalled. "And clothes. She loved clothes… I liked seeing Kate laugh. Better yet, I liked making her laugh. And I was quite good at it." But these days, trust is the big reason why William and Kate – as well as many members of the royal family – won't reportedly extend an olive branch to the Sussexes. "No one trusts Harry and Meghan – and for good reason," Schofield claimed. "I recently spoke with my friend Hugo Vickers, a close confidant of the royal family, who told me that even the late Queen Elizabeth didn't feel comfortable being left alone with them. She would ensure a chaperone was always present during their visits – whether it was to prevent secret photos or to avoid being pressured into negotiations that should've been discussed with Harry's father, not her." WATCH: PRINCE HARRY HAS SPENT THE LAST FEW YEARS 'TORTURING' THE ENTIRE ROYAL FAMILY, EXPERT ARGUES "The queen didn't trust them," Schofield claimed. "Why should Catherine? Catherine has every reason to be wary. She believes Harry and Meghan intentionally lied about her – and after everything they've leaked, exaggerated or twisted, can you blame her?" Chard noted that the royal family, especially Kate, have been following the late queen's mantra – never complain, never explain. "Prince Harry was brought up under his late grandma's mantra… Meghan supports Harry, who now constantly complains. Princess Catherine is sad that the Prince Harry of old is no longer, has taken on board that all trust is broken, and the door is shut on Harry. They will not meet for the time being unless at a funeral or possible wedding." "Previously, Princess Catherine looked forward to her children getting to know the Sussex children," said Chard. "However, she is aware her parenting decisions are critical to the success of the crown and will ensure her children have as normal a childhood as possible as the reality of her and her husband's new roles loom. She certainly doesn't want Prince Harry to burden Prince William's future reign." These days, William and Kate, along with the other royals, are choosing to prioritize the crown. "They saw [Harry and Meghan's] performance for what it was – and they've stood their ground ever since," said Schofield.

The ‘Dept. Q' Season 1 Finale Finally Reveals Merritt's Fate

Q, which followed irritable cold case detective Carl Morck (Matthew Goode) investigating a strange disappearance. Unsurprisingly, the season 1 finale of Dept. Q—which is based on a 10-book series by Danish crime writer Jussi Adler-Olsen—answered a ton of questions about what happened to missing lawyer Merritt Lingard, but it also brought a few more to light. Here's what you need to know about how the first season of gritty detective drama Dept. Q comes to an end. A flashback in episode 8 reveals that Merritt conspired with her high school boyfriend, Harry Jennings, to steal her mother's jewelry in order to raise money to start a new life. However, Merritt's younger brother, William, intervened during the robbery, which led him to become badly injured, causing a traumatic brain injury. In the present day, Merritt figures out she was kidnapped and held hostage by Harry's mom, Ailsa Jennings, and his younger brother, Lyle. Merritt refuses to apologize for Harry's death, despite Ailsa's insistence that her son would be alive if it weren't for the robbery scheme. 'Harry said she weren't right in the head,' Merritt tells Lyle, before calling him the 'psychotic brother.' After she proclaims, 'Harry Jennings deserved to die,' Lyle starts trying to break the glass of the hyperbaric chamber Merritt is locked in—if successful, the sudden change in pressure will likely kill her. As he's hitting the glass, Merritt sees Lyle's face and calls him Sam. In the same episode, the detectives at Dept. Q discover that Harry's brother Lyle had been posing as investigative journalist Sam Haig and having an affair with Merritt. The audience also discovers that Lyle and Ailsa were able to kidnap Merritt from the ferry as she'd told Sam—who was really Lyle in disguise—what time she would be traveling to Mhòr. In an old video shown at the start of the finale, a young Lyle shares that his mother used to lock him in the hyperbaric chamber as a form of torture or punishment. It's also revealed that Lyle would regularly hallucinate Harry following his death, and at one point believed Sam, who was incarcerated with him at the same 'institution for troubled boys,' was his dead brother, according to Tudum. Having been diagnosed with Enhanced Personality Disorder, Lyle remained in a mental health institution until six years ago, when he started working on the ferry to Mhòr. Lyle and Sam reconnected as adults, which led to an unfortunate series of events. While most believed Sam had died in a tragic climbing accident, it turns out that Lyle was responsible for his former acquaintance's death—as well as stealing his identity to get close to Merritt. Before his death, Sam also shared some details about his work as an investigative journalist, which Lyle later used to his advantage. A local police constable on Mhòr hears Merritt's mysterious 911 call, in which she only manages to scream, and travels to Ailsa's residence. He finds Merritt inside the hyperbaric chamber and is approached by Lyle. 'Boy, tell me I am not looking at what I'm looking at,' the officer tells Lyle. 'Tell me that is not Merritt fucking Lingard.' It's then revealed that Lyle told the police officer that Merritt fell overboard on the ferry, describing it as 'poetic justice' for what happened to Harry years earlier. 'What am I supposed to do?' the officer asks Lyle, who tells him to get in his car and drive away as if nothing has happened. When the officer refuses to leave, Lyle viciously murders him with a hammer, then returns to slowly killing Merritt by altering the pressure in the hyperbaric chamber. A flashback in episode 9 shows Merritt's brother William hitting Harry over the head with a hockey stick, thinking he's an intruder. While Harry is lying on the floor, William questions why he's there, not realizing Lyle is standing behind him. Lyle proceeds to repeatedly beat William, whose serious head injuries cause lifelong damage. The detectives in Dept. Q deduce it was Lyle who grievously injured William, not Harry. Just before Merritt disappeared on the boat, William had violently lashed out at his sister, but it wasn't because he was angry. 'You were afraid because you saw Lyle on the boat,' Akram says, showing him a picture of Lyle. William confirms the man he saw wearing a baseball cap with a picture of a cormorant on it was also Lyle. The team at Dept. Q later find out that, when Lyle was a teenager, he kidnapped another kid and locked them in the hyperbaric chamber for several days. As a result, Carl and Akram decide to visit Lyle's mom, Ailsa. Receiving no response from Ailsa's trailer, they enter an industrial building on her land and discover the police constable who was murdered by Lyle. Nearby, they find the hyperbaric chamber and rush to the control room to try to stop the pressure from increasing and killing Merritt. Detective James Hardy provides information about hyperbaric chambers to Carl and Akram over the phone. Before they can attempt to help Merritt, Lyle enters the control room with a gun and shoots Carl. Unbeknownst to Lyle, Akram is pretending to be dead. When Lyle approaches them, Akram stabs him, grabs the gun, and shoots, killing the kidnapper. Luckily, Carl survives the gunshot, and the pair are able to rescue Merritt from the chamber in time. Merritt is carried out of building by paramedics and is greeted by her brother William, who is delighted to see her again. Lyle's mom, Ailsa, attempts to escape Mhòr, but is apprehended as she exits the ferry. Before she can be arrested, Ailsa reaches for a gun inside her car and shoots herself in the head. Upon returning home, Carl is greeted by his stepson Jasper, lodger Martin, and therapist Rachel, who has stopped by to leave a gift for him. Three months later, Merritt visits the police station where she thanks Carl's boss, Moira, for reopening the investigation into her disappearance. Merritt also reveals she's yet to meet Carl, whom she wants to thank in person. Moira says Carl is taking an indeterminate amount of time off from work, and Merritt shares her plans to return to Mhòr to spend time with brother William and their estranged father. Carl surprises Merritt's boss, Lord Advocate Stephen Burns, and asks him to officially allow Akram, a refugee from Syria, to become a police detective. In return, Carl promises he won't tell anyone about Stephen's involvement in the witness tampering that took place in Merritt's final case before she was kidnapped. Before the episode ends, Merritt enters the basement in which Dept. Q operates, but finds the room empty. She almost bumps into Carl when exiting the elevator, but he doesn't reveal his identity. In the final scene, Carl is shown carrying a box of cold case files to his desk and is joined by fellow investigators Akram, Rose, and Hardy.
