2 New Tracks From Malaysian Acts Iskandar Zulkarnain & ALPHA Dive Into Love & Growth

These two recent local releases highlight the range of Malaysian music today. One marks a heartfelt solo comeback, while the other shows a softer side of a rising boy group. Iskandar Zulkarnain – 'Sewaktu Bahagia' After some time away from the spotlight former Projektor Band vocalist Iskandar Zulkarnain makes a strong return with 'Sewaktu Bahagia,' a new solo single released under Luncai Emas. Known for his emotionally driven vocal style, Iskandar once again leans into heartbreak – this time with a song written by Aidil AF and Jeremy Erskine, inspired by their real-life experiences with love and loss. Backed by the guidance of Dato' M. Nasir and the fresh production touch of Hidayat Nasir from Pitahati, 'Sewaktu Bahagia' captures the rawness of emotional upheaval. The lyrics paint a picture of broken trust and fading joy, all set to a classic pop rock arrangement that feels both nostalgic and current. Iskandar hopes the song will stand the test of time and resonate across generations. The song is now available on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms. ALPHA – 'P. Ramlee & Saloma' Following their high-energy debut 'Mona Lisa (Bang Bang),' seven-member boy group ALPHA returns with something entirely different. Their second single 'P. Ramlee & Saloma' is a ballad that reveals a more introspective, emotional side of the group. Formed through the reality competition Big Stage Alpha, the group – made up of Daniel, Izat, Rizal, Ariel, Araff, Ray-D and Sky – was selected from hundreds of aspiring male contestants across Southeast Asia. Their goal has always been to redefine what a pop group can be, and this new single reflects that direction. The song was produced by Justin Seow, Mohsein Kush and RFE under Rocketfuel Entertainment. It positions ALPHA not just as performers, but as a cohesive group with musical range. While 'Mona Lisa' introduced them with attitude and flair, 'P. Ramlee & Saloma' focuses on sincerity, showcasing their vocal strength and artistic growth. The song is now streaming on all major platforms, with a music video release coming soon.

Whenever she is free from her gruelling music schedules, she spends time with several youngsters and gives them coaching and singing lessons. Known for her powerful she now spends some time coaching these youngsters to improve their vocal chords. "It is just something I love to do. I met some of them because we love music and it is just wonderful that I have a chance to help them," said the 25-year-old Wani. "It is not something that needs to be shouted about. I'm just happy I can give them a lending hand." It is just a show that the talented Wani is just as charismatic when she is not singing and it gets better when she is just as happy helping youngsters as well as breaking the charts with her hits. Also on Friday, Wani marks another milestone in her music career today with the launch of her debut EP titled 'W2K', officially announced during the 'Wani Kayrie Listening Party', held at MyTOWNKL in collaboration with the ASR Festival by Ascott. 'This EP Is For Everyone Has Been Waiting For ' After years of journeying through the music industry, Wani finally brings her dream to life with her first EP, a result of unwavering support from those who never stopped believing. 'Finally, after all this time, I'm able to gift this mini album to everyone who's been waiting. This is one of the most meaningful moments for me. I feel touched, excited, and extremely grateful – especially because the request for this album came from fans, family, and friends who believe in my talent,' said a grateful Wani . As for the EP title, Wani explained: 'I was born in the year 2000, so the name W2K is symbolic not only of my birth year, but also represents a new side of me as a singer. The songs in this EP are all different, each with a unique vibe, showcasing the diversity in my music ." She further added that the W2K concept aligns with current youth trends embracing the 'Y2K' lifestyle aesthetic – from fashion and music to self-expression: 'I want this EP to be relevant, trendy, and connected to the soul of my generation.' W2K comprises five tracks " Cak Cak Cekuk , Serius Ah , Aiman Tino , Matahari , Biarkan " together with a cover version of a popular tune. Each original track was produced with top local composers and lyricists, including Iqie Hugh, Hanis Rafi, Omar K, Shazriq Azeman, MFMF, Ezra Kong, Shane Kennedy and Karim Karam and more. As for her favourite tune in the EP, Wani said: 'I love "Cak Cak Cekuk" because I enjoy songs that uplift and celebrate culture. In life, we can't escape challenges, so a song like this helps us feel positive, confident and entertained.' Alongside the EP, a heartfelt ballad 'Biarkan" about a love that never came to be is also released. 'This song is about letting go of something that's no longer good for us, even if we still care. Sometimes, 'letting it be' is the best way to heal,' Wani expressed, admitting that the recording process came with its challenges. 'I had to record the song on different days, but I had to maintain the same emotions throughout. It was tough, but worth it because I'm really happy with the result.' Looking back at her career beginnings about a decade ago with the track 'Jangan Jangan', Wani views W2K as a crucial turning point marking her growth as an artist. 'For me, W2K is a very important transition. It introduces a fresher concept, style, and musical direction – for my long-time fans and also new listeners who are just discovering Wani Kayrie.' Early reactions from fans towards the EP's songs have been overwhelmingly positive. " I read that many fans are excited because each song has its own identity. I hope W2K becomes part of their daily playlist!' Wani also shared a heartfelt message to her fans and fellow dreamers: 'I hope W2K is more than just entertainment – I want it to be an inspiration. If I can achieve my dreams, so can you. Don't be afraid to carve out your own space in life. Believe and keep going ."
